The finder didn't say the exact location, but bgw did post a clueset that basically gave it away.

Funny thing I read about the '4 free F&W' items...

It seems they printed the vouchers on the day they hid the spoon. Since the spoon wasn't found until the day after; when the finders went to redeem, they came up as invalid.

They apparently explained this and a booth attendant took care of them.

Just got an email that the free food item for members runs through June 23, but an April 30 email had a “date correction” that the offer only ran through May 31. Anyone have any insight?

I think it is because it is listed under the monthly rewards. So technically May rewards expire on the 31st. It is also listed under June rewards until the 23rd.

Oh ok, so it sounds like it was the beginning date on the mailer that was incorrect. I took that email to mean the offer was May only. Good to know—thanks!

Correct. Glad that you figured it out. My wife had the same question as well so I know that it could have been worded better.

They should have clarified what specific date they corrected to avoid this

So if I have a member plan, I’ll get a 10% off discount on items from the food and wine festival? Can anyone confirm where it says that? Looking at my card it says 10% food and wine but doesn’t specify if it includes the food and wine festival. Since the member discounts have already been calculated into the spreadsheet I’m assuming it applies. I’ve made a list of the items that I want and I’m currently trying to narrow it down so it fits my budget. Again, that spreadsheet is a life saver.

It definitely applies. The register worker should ask if you have a pass and will scan it. Or you can just hand it to them as you place your order.

The discount does not apply to things that the park considered 'already discounted' so the sampler lanyard doesn't apply

I did have one instance where I went to a booth and the scanner was having issues so the checker couldn't give a discount.

It may be helpful when budgeting to consider that the discount pretty much just takes off the tax which, I believe is around 8% or so.

Update: Google says it's 7%. But yeah.. depending on how closely you need to budget, you can just figure the base price on being the price after discount and after tax added back.. or you can do math if you want more exact numbers

Tax is 11% on food and beverage in JCC. 7% is the base sales tax and then there's an addition 4%

Thanks @BGWnut . So in that case, with the discount, the price listed should be exactly what you pay after discount and tax.

100% - 10% = 90% and 11% tax on 90% = 99.9%

Does JCC have different tax rates for alcohol? If so, how does that apply to the lanyard?
There is not a different tax rate for alcohol. It is covered under the same tax rate as the other food items.

One thing to note that the state sales tax is higher is the historic triangle than the rest of the state because of a law that went into effect July 1st, 2018. It created some zones in the the state. So Northern Virginia and Hampton Roads have 6 % base sales tax and the rest of the state is a 5.3%.

So for JCC there is a 7% base sales tax and then an additional 4% tax for prepared food. The same is true for York County.

I know this is so much more than most of you every wanted to know about sales tax.

Information about the base sales tax rates in VA.

Information about the specific JCC prepared food tax.

That stinks if you live in these higher tax zones. I just assumed that the additional tax was a local tax. ( I live in a border county and purchase goods in VA frequently.) They have additional local tax on food and beverage only. I did not realize this was for all goods and services. So a $2500 refrigerator will cost you $42.50 more in Williamsburg than Richmond?

That is correct. The base rate the state charges is different based on where you purchase. The extra 1% for the historic triangle is supposed to be going towards increasing tourism.

There is a reduced rate of 2.5% that is for food that is purchased at a grocery store. However because BGW is prepared food they charge 11%. Non food items are charged the 7%. Those are really the only two tax rates that are applicable at BGW.

Unlikely. They did this for "national scavenger hunt day" which was a good excuse for them to do another scavenger hunt.

I do think they'll have more scavenger hunts as the egg and now spoon seemed fairly successful; but I don't think it'll be done again soon like the Easter eggs. Maybe they'll do one in July with a prize of priority seating for summer nights shows and maybe HoS/ChristmasTown
