Engineer is constantly working the throttle and brakes, fireman is constantly working the fire and adding water to the boiler. Nothing is automated.Dumb question, but when operating with passengers, do engineers have to constantly adjust various control valves and whatnot? Or are they simply hitting a ride start button and then applying the brakes when needed while watching whatever gauges to ensure proper running conditions?
It is a real steam engine. That means monitoring and controlling boiler pressure and water level, ensuring nothing is in the way of the train, and pretty much everything else engineers of full sized trains have to do. Doesn't matter if there are passengers or not. Track conditions change every trip and good engineers will compensate and deliver a good, gentle ride for guests every time. The fireman position is much easier, mainly adjusting the propane gas valve and adding water to the boiler when going downhill. Other than that, they are there to keep and eye on the left side of the engine for safety.Dumb question, but when operating with passengers, do engineers have to constantly adjust various control valves and whatnot? What all does the tour consist of? How long was it? What did you get to see/do?They didnt change anything, but one of the engineers came down and walked us along the side of the train.
Balmoral Castle is now out of service for annual maintenance. Maybe they started taking things off early in preparation for removing it from service?Does anyone know when the park will bring the lining and the number plates back on Balmoral Castle? It looks to fake without them. Also they need to paint all those bolts.
They havent been on since it was returned from getting fixed. Hopefully they bring them back for annual maintenance.Balmoral Castle is now out of service for annual maintenance. Maybe they started taking things off early in preparation for removing it from service?
Does anyone have a picture of Alpen Express with the American flags on it for 4th of July?
To be fair, wouldn't this or next weekend normally be passmember preview weekend? They still may have a number of attractions down that were open over CT/NY, but otherwise it seems like they are starting to adjust to the year round schedule. Note the word starting. Also looks like the railway is opening back up. Slowly but surely BGW is coming back online.
Oh I've never been critical of their "off season" plans and renovations. Friendly fire there. To be fair, wouldn't this or next weekend normally be passmember preview weekend? I know, but there is plenty of criticism that a number of members here, including myself, have for the park. Most of it being that for a park in a chain that has year round parks, it should have had less growing pains as it would not have been hard to audit the year round parks to figure out what needs to happen to make BGW go year round.Oh I've never been critical of their "off season" plans and renovations. My statement was pure excitement and celebration.
