Certainly possible to have a +-2 mph difference. I know that TTD at CP is usually anywhere between 120 and 122mph normal operation and somewhere around 124-125 mph morning cycles.

Aren't the higher speeds during morning cycles because the launch system is attempting to get a less heavy train to clear the tower using the same force it uses for loaded trains, then it backs down over a few cycles taking into account for how fast a train is going over the top so it's not flying?

Volcano would normally fluctuate between 76/74 and 69/68 for it’s first and second launches. If she only hit 68 in the first, she would abort the second launch (usually).
Really? I heard that TTD and Ka don’t launch at their advertised speeds
 
What about a ride like Superman: Escape from Krypton? Its spike is 415 feet tall but the trains only go up 330 feet of it. Over-representing size seems like a pretty male thing to do.

When Superman debuted, it was hotly debated whether or not the ride truly fit the full definition of a roller coaster.

Experts now agree there's a spectrum...

Hot take: Apollo is the rare coaster that produces more airtime near the front of the train than the back. I’m prepared to defend this stance ?
While the front has good air, it is not as much as the back row, but only the very last row. So you might have something there with the word "near".

I think restraints affect the experience of airtime but they don't change the forces at work or its presence. However floater airtime makes the difference larger.


So what might the spread be on the max speed? Officially it is 73mph, but it seems like we are saying that it goes faster on very warm and very cold days - or is the speed in the first drop not affected by the weather so much as the helix and final airtime hills? I know of course there is no way to be certain, but maybe 70-75mph?

Yeah I don't think the first drop changes that much, and that's the max. speed. Most of what is being said of its speed is true of most. I think it feels much faster at night, whatever the actual speed is.

Re: Volcano, launch coasters tend to vary opposite of drop coasters, unless there is excess feedback. So it took a while to settle down? I never realized it had any feedback loop, heavy loads would usually be slower and I'd ride in back for the hangtime out the top, and light loads would fly. But I guess crowds wouldn't change that fast. They said it went 75 on one of my solo rides. So violent and awesome.
 
They don't. With weighted trains Ka usually hits 117-118 mph. Even when empty and boosted it doesn't even break 125. TTD I have been told sits around 112-114 mph when loaded.
Thanks for the info, El Toro Ryan’s videos said they didn’t launch at the advertised speeds but he wouldn’t say what it actually was
 
If all this is true about the launches not being TTD and Ka's advertised top speed, does that mean the drops propel to that speed?
