Depending on what they might do with the mountain, there could be no reason to dismantle the structure inside it, or even advantageous to leave it. I wonder how many dump trucks it would take to haul the whole mess away, 200? I'd say by June 1 they could take the external part of the coaster off, or have it down, but all gone seems a bit much.

But if they do take it all down, that would make it more likely to get something new sooner. Also if they were planning to leave the mountain, I'd think it would be on the park map as a landmark.

Worth noting that drachenfire and shockwave were for sale too.
And by asking if anyone wanted it first, they saved a lot of time taking down Shockwave. .I guess I had to see that happen too to fully believe it.

When I put the screen print of the demo permit on here, what is listed there is ambiguious. This is a permit from the county to "demo volcano" not a detail plan for demolition. I certainly don`t know if the plan is to raze everything to the ground (mountain and all) or just the coaster. I guess we will know as early as this weekend.

You can demo a coaster in a controlled manner without major damage to structures around it. It would take a crane and heavy machinery with a hydraulic jaw. The crane could hold a section of track and supports and use the machine with the hydraulic jaw to cut through the supports. Once that occurs, the crane lifts and moves the section to a staging area where it could broken up further.

I assume that KD Fanatics has someone on the inside leaking a certain amount of info to them. But, how much that inside person knows and how much they can divulge to others is up for grabs. If that insider leaks too much info, they are probably going to be looking for a new job.

Someone on FB has found the perment and says it is the whole structure but I don't see anything in the perment thasy makes that clear. My gut is it is the whole thing.

If we're going by the June timeline (which I don't see substantiated anywhere) then my guess is they're going full send on its demolition and not caring about the minute details.

I wonder if, at this time, they are just going to remove the external portion of the ride.

That is a possibility.

IF the mountain stays, and the park wants to rid itself of the visible portions of the coaster, then removing those parts of the track/supports that can be seen throughout the park would be a priority and it seems like it could be done in two months.

That was my thinking. The permit is so bloody vague.
Just a curious thought, I wonder if the county and state still consider the mountain by it OG name and the ride as Volcano. If they did it would be one of those esoteric things that like 3 people knew or cared about until now.

I would be curious to see the permit filing from the 70s to see what they called it. Since there were 3 rides in the new part It makes sence to me that the structure would have its own designation.

Permit filings were much more simplistic back then compared to today, they could've just said "hey we're building a structure for 1979 that's gonna be about 150 feet tall" and the county / state / however the hell it was ran back then would've been cool with it until they actually saw it completed. A lot of the modern codes and permits for amusement rides didn't start getting rolled out until the mid-late 1980s and national standards weren't put out until 1994.

I really think that they need to bulldoze the entire thing and revamp the area. Trying to hold on to nostalgia doesn’t do the park good.

As I asked before, could it be the structure that's not solid? I know the coaster was hurting, but a big rush to tear down sounds to me more structural.

But taking advantage of a unique structure, which the park has invested millions into over the past few years, might.

Econ 101

Never use the sunk cost fallacy

There are a very limited number of worthwhile things ride-wise you can do with it

Volcano likely closed for a number of reasons and due to the holes in the structure I’m betting that was part of it.

I’m just questioning those wanting to bring back the past so badly

“Volcano was crap anyways! Let’s bring back Smurf Mountain!”

“Grrrrr Verbolten sucks we need to tear it down and bring back Big Bad Wolf”

“‘Hey guys Son of Beast is coming back!!!!”

Like I know the first two at least were part of people’s childhoods but I can speak for a lot that have no interest in trying to replicate it vs moving on to a new chapter. Just food for thought.

I totally believe you'd be saying the same thing if Volcano wasn't closed.

I’m super super sad to see Volcano go but I understand why it closed. I’m not the one calling for it to be completely rebuilt. And I certainly won’t be calling the coaster that replaces it garbage if it actually tries (and isn’t just a free fly or some blatantly lazy crap)

In fact, I believe nostalgia has done more good for the park than it has bad. KD40? Bringing back the parks nostalgic roots has made the park look much, much more presentable than it did in the past. It's unfortunate that an amusement park isn't able to meet your endless, unrealistic desires.

There’s a huge difference between adding retro food items/theming/landscaping/etc and adding former rides. The former is a celebration while the later is actively allocating attractions to pander to nostalgia.

Get rid of Racer, it's nostalgic so it does no good. Get rid of Woodstock, it's nostalgic and does no good. Get rid of basically every damn thing in the park and then bitch that KD doesn't provide you with anything to do and has no charm whatsoever. But those removals were supposed to do the park good, right? Every ride has had an influence on what the park is today. Each and every addition has made the park what it is today.

Way to completely miss my point. I’m saying that they shouldn’t bring back old rides for the sake of nostalgia, not take out current ones.
