Agreed, I really can't see the need for BGW to get metal detectors. I believe Paramount added KD's metal detectors, which (while probably still unnecessary) at least made a bit of sense because at the time KD was in a rougher area (near Richmond) than BGW was, and attracted a rougher crowd. While I doubt KD would be able to do away with their metal detectors (imagine the outcry if something did happen after they were removed), I highly doubt BGW would ever necessitate such things.

BGW did have metal detectors at one time at the gates. Right after 9/11/2001. You think the lines are long with finger print scanners! The lines were back up the hill at times with the metal detectors. I believe they were removed for the 2002 or 03 season. I don't see any reason to bring them back. BGW always has drawn a family crowd.

I was recently browsing the web and I finally found something of good evidence. In the past, I have heard rumors of BGW/WCUSA hurting for security. I personally never believed it because there was no evidence proving such. However more information has come to light.

So currently what proof do I have to show that the park is hurting for security? A job fair exclusively for Security only. Yes this Thursday May 15th, the park is looking for anyone who has a current DCJS certification. The position starts at $9.55 per hour which is decent for a basic job, even just for the summer.

So all those interested check it out: http://bgwjobs.com/officerlevel1security.html

I have never sneaked in anything but I've thought a couple times about how easy it would be to just hide something in my big bulky winter jacket and not bring a bag (therefore not having to go through security).

I legitimately brought a Leatherman into the park by accident once. It was in the front pouch of my backpack and the bag poker did not see it. I did not did not catch it till much later when I went into that pouch to drop my keys.

To be fair, I have accidentally taken things through airport security that were prohibited several times. I would expect tighter security from TSA than BGW.

Geo and I both have noticed how friendly the gate guards at the England lot have been this year.

As y'all may recall several people had trouble using that entrance during Christmas Town 2014. Last weekend, however, not only was I waved through with no problem, the man at the entrance booth was really charming and helpful.

As I thought about this, I realized how great they have been all year. The guys there have offered me crowd estimates and weather updates and been incredibly friendly each time I've visited.

I know this is a small thing, but I really wanted to highlight it, because their charming reception has improved my visits this season.

The bag check people have actually been great thus far this Chirstmas Town as well. I ran into one on Saturday that told me that I was good to go, but I should be careful with the cannon in my bag. My Cannon camera in my camera bag. Well played bag check guy, well played.

When ever I go to a park I just carry everything i need on my person in order to avoid any hassle just in case, it just makes things easier.

That's good to finally hear some positive notes. I knew that the park would try to crank down on it somehow. I made a point on opening night of Christmas Town to check/tweet the status of platinum parking. As I pulled into the toll booth, I felt my (recently) usual intimidation. However, to my pleasant surprise, the lady smiled and said something like "Enjoy the 8-million lights at Christmas Town."

When I saw Miracles later that night, and heard the song "Angels Among Us", I thought about the kind and helpful employees like that. (Ok, that may be a slight dramatization, but at least it makes a good story.:))

So....now that Disney and Universal are rolling out metal detectors, how long until we think Busch Gardens will follow suit?

Hopefully never.

Seaworld, Disney, and Universal have, so far, only implemented metal detectors in their Orlando parks. In the case of Seaworld, the "metal detectors" are just security guards waving wands over guests. This temporary setup leads me to believe that the metal detectors may only be present during the holiday season. After all, Orlando is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the world. Factor in the holiday masses, and the Orlando theme parks look like a prime candidate for violence.

So hopefully, the metal detectors won't migrate up north to Virginia.

Disneyland and Universal Hollywood are using them.
