RE: BGW Security

Wait, that's not Al-Qaeda, it's old man Lum who runs the haunted amusement park. "I would have got away with it too, if it wasn't for you pesky BGW security guys". "Rice run Rentacop, rehehehehehehe."

Do you honestly believe that any federal agency would hand-off a credible, large-scale terrorist threat to a amusement park security force?

Federal agencies get thousands of tips each day, they don't typically fully investigate each tip, the ones that *seem* less credible get passed on to the park to worry about. But the fact is, they could get a legit tip and what are they to do then?

I will say this has happened previously in the park's history.

RE: BGW Security

I think that what we are trying to imply is that a tip about a disgruntled employee is not anything like credible intelligence of a major (large-scale) terrorist threat. Maybe it is just jargon, but these words have very specific meanings.

RE: BGW Security

I would think that any proper researched Terrorist would see BGW's attendance and go after KD instead. Then again, everything did change after 9/11, so maybe we should be getting full cavity searches before entering the park.

Wait, were we really talking about installing actual X-ray scanners into the park? If that was the case, I'd actually feel less safe setting foot into the park.

- Not even Six Flags would think about installing x-ray scanners into their parks.
It wasn't seriously being discussed, PR merely made a hypothetical statement, and I quote verbatim "Honestly bga check is a joke. I seriously believe if they really wanted to provide consistent security, they should add metal detectors and x-ray scanners for bags instead of sticks.

Perhaps having these two additional things wouldn't be as bad if they blended in to match the theming some? Stone archways for the metal detectors so it doesn't necessarily look like you're going through a metal detector but just an archway." Somehow everyone took it out of context and took it as meaning "We need x-ray scanners!! We aren't safe!" and that's just an opinion anyway.

I agree with you, x-ray scanners would be overkill.

RE: BGW Security

Again you guys took that out of context.

X-Ray scanners for bags. Not scanning people. Using x-rays for bags would make that stick obsolete and improve the accuracy by a ton.

I find it strange how more security equals less safety? and less security equals more safety? Please explain this concept?

it's simple really. Busch Gardens is not . . . or a major terrorist threat. I don't want the park treating it's guests like potential terrorists. It makes me feel kinda uncomfortable.

I understand that, but there is that thinking that nothing will ever happen to the park. Back a few years ago, I believe on the anniversary of 9/11 a year or two ago, CEO of SWPE sent out a memo to all team members stating that their parks attract a large volume of American guests every day and that the parks are potential terrorist targets.

Despite the time of this memo, it holds true every day. The park remains a possible target for being able to bring in (especially on capacity days) up to 36,000 people plus team members and the such. Not to mention crowds all around the park trying to get in.

All I am saying is the park is always a potential target, and if they used metal detectors and bag scanners, I would feel safer because I know no one will get through with that type of security. I would also think if the machine blended into theming it wouldn't be as bad and would look somewhat aesthetically pleasing.

RE: BGW Security

Themed or not, I stil don't see the need for bag scanners at Busch or any theme park for that matter.

Even if BGW can attract 35000 people on busy days, the Disney and Universal parks can pull in numbers like that on the slowest of days and hit 70k-100k on peak days. You'd think a major organization would hit those places, yet I don't think either would resort to TSA sccreenings for bags anytime soon.

RE: BGW Security

Everywhere is a "potential" terrorist target. But, places you have to pay to park, can't get out easily, cost $70 to get in, mostly there aren't enclosed, people spread out over an area of hundreds of acres...it's just not an ideal terrorist strike zone, and the likelihood is low.

It's not impossible. Nothing is. But there's no more need to xray bags at Busch Gardens than there is to xray bags at the mall. A lot less so, arguably.

RE: BGW Security

Bump.

[...]When was the last time you heard about someone being stabbed or shot at a theme park? Honestly, committing any sort of crime at a theme park sounds like an awful idea. One way in, one way out, and there's plenty of witnesses everywhere.

Thank you.

Can someone please close this now? :p

RE: BGW Security

This thread doesn't need closing, policies change over time and I will be there to edit and revise my OP and I need the thread to be open to do that, I think this thread has served for good discussion about the bag checkpoint though.
