There's a good chance Great Adventure has way more games stalls than really make sense for current park audiences.
They absolutely do and they’re somewhat bizarrely spaced:

There are a metric shitload of games on the west side of the fountain, and a single arcade on the east.

EDIT: I think I may be forgetting one in the general area of Fender Benders, could be wrong though. Clearly overdue for a return to my old stomping grounds.

Yea I know all about stamped concrete, my backyard is full of it. Just felt like that still would be unrealistic. It’s quite an expansive area we would want to see done. Beyond what we’ve historically expected from them, at least.

Interesting to see that about the removed stalls, though. Seems like a real commitment to transforming the greater area. Maybe stamped concrete SHOULD be on the table.

There's a somewhat new and oddly placed game stand right near the Fountain Drink icon in that picture too, on the way to Flash. I guess it was just a matter of them having the space and wanting to put something there.

I'm also entertained by the Slingshot being in the backstage area on that map lol. Do they know something we don't?

I'll also say this. It has really felt to me like games have been dying out in amusement and theme parks lately. There's a good chance Great Adventure has way more games stalls than really make sense for current park audiences.
Crackpot theory time:

Between TikTok video’s constantly showing how these games are “rigged” and charging for lockers to carry the prizes, that’s what parks will blame.

IMO the real blame here is greed. Parks are getting people to pay too much for everything else with their day. Fast passes, pictures, upcharge drinks, lockers, heck even parking. And in many cases those things they are getting people to pay more for don’t take much labor to cover. So when people give ‘feedback’ by not going to play the games (because of the ‘extra costs’ now tied to it with lockers), that’s what gets cut because it saves them on labor dollars.

Heck - I’m fearful of the first park that going to do something like cut costs by something like having a dining option where all meals cost the same, and there is no cashier, just a kiosk where you pay for the number of people going in before you get your food.

I think the death of games in parks is also heavily related to the shift from day ticket guests to pass members. Today pass members are everything to regional parks. I don't have numbers to say this, but I feel very confident in the theory that people who visit your park even semi-frequently are dramatically less likely to play games—particularly on repeat visits.

Anyway, if you ask me, less games = a better park environment. My day isn't improved by people carrying around giant, anthropomorphic, Rastafarian bananas or dribbling basketballs all over the place. It's one of many small aesthetic/environmental factors that can make a park feel a lot trashier than needed.

I can see your first point, but don’t necessarily fully agree with your second point.

I agree with the “trashiness” point to an extent but it depends on the park. I’d love to see Dollywood and BGW/BGT fully get rid of games for that exact reason. SF parks could go either way, but I won’t miss them if they’re gone.

I’ll say games are a decently big part of the experience for younger people who may see regional parks as closer to a permanent carnival/fair than a theme park like a lot of enthusiasts want them to be.

Keeping with the Jersey theme, if Cedar Fair still has access to the Thunder Road name, please please please give us West Coaster Racers themed to the turnpike and call it Thunder Road. Have Springsteen cut the ribbon.
Yeah, they still have the name, the area with Thunder Striker at Carowinds is named Thunder Road and instead of a clone of West Coast Racers, they should do a dueling RMC intense hybrid and a tame RMC woody without inversions.

Major Boardwalk renovation confirmed with the first phase opening late this spring!

If you click the link for the “new-for-2027” coaster, it takes you to a blog post for a project update that isnt accessible ….. yet.

I know this is slightly off topic for this thread, but the link is just malformed. They dropped the domain, it should be

I’m a little disappointed they are keeping the boardwalk theme. I find the theme generic and plain as they could have chose something better that could have allowed more with theming. I thought they were going to do a retheme with all the surveys they did on this project. I am still optimistic however, a refresh with new facades on games and new rides would be a much needed improvement regardless. Looking forward to see what rides we get this year!

Very interesting that they’re going back with the boardwalk theme, just vastly updated. I think it’s a great theme if done correctly - as it connects to the Jersey shore. I have trust in this version of Six Flags to build out this area nicely (maybe not right away in the Spring, but definitely by the 2027 coaster opening day).

Very curious on the roller coaster’s theme, as it seems to be part of this area and will tie into the boardwalk theme.
