@Zachary - excellent options you mentioned before. All of those sound competent.

The name-botching and lack of real marketing leads me to believe they are not gearing up for any attendance increases by virtue of this being a mild, new attraction, although the theme looks nice.

I don’t know why I feel more and more disappointed with this, but there’s still potential for it to be a treat. I feel like BGW did not understand that they are a business that needs to compete aside from being a “special” park all their own, and that not even 45 minutes away, a really great park is about to get a really great ride that is absolutely the first of its kind in the state AND simultaneously revamp one of the fiercest rides in existence to an entirely different theme, and could market that as a “new” giga experience.

I’ve already had people ask me if the park is going to get a new BBW and I explained with distain how far away from the truth that actually is. Some of these things the park attempts are such a low hanging fruit, but they still don’t know how to cherry pick properly.

Sad to say I think Cedar Fair will be taking more of my money than Sea World Parks in 2025, and to be honest I don’t even want it to be that way, but that’s my headspace right now. It’s so funny that we see these things as being simple objective tasks to achieve for maximum return, yet the mark has been missed year after year after year in succession - Pantheon, DarKoaster, and now this.

For the record, given the model and location, I still think Design & Engineering is fixing to knock this thing out of the park. Like I said in my latest article, I do think people should be excited about A TON of this project. That makes it even sader to see the continual mismanagement of every aspect by marketing though. There are people pouring their heart and soul into this addition—but their work is being communicated and publicized by people who, as far as I can tell, aren't qualified to do their jobs or simply don't care.

So many details all around this attraction are a detailed love letter to The Wolf. The time and effort being poured into the project oozes from the plans we've seen. What of that was actually shared yesterday though? We got "we don't have a good name, pick one of these bad options," "there's a village," "it's themed to the Big Bad Wolf," and "OMG! Longest family inverted roller coaster in the country!!1!1!"

All United Parks marketing knows how to do at this point is to find an obscure record no one cares about and yell that for 6 months. They don't understand their product, they don't understand the market, they don't understand their fans, and I'd argue that they don't understand the general public or basic marketing communications either.

I wasn’t alive in 1975, but having spoken with some who were (and visited both parks), it sounds like Kings Dominion was the more exciting park opening season. Looks like we’re gearing up for a half-century repeat.

There are some IP issues, but Wölfzeit (hour of the wolf) sounds pretty cool in my opinion. Not that it avoids all controversy. It is however very pronounceable.

WolfUhr (Wolf O'Clock). Coaster dispatches once an hour. Also, Zeit means "time". Stunde is "hour". And Wolfstunde sounds like a much shorter knockoff shark week.

Side note, but aren't the umlauts superfluous for all these names? I'm pretty sure Wolf in German is just a regular o. It's not pronounced like it has umlauts. Better German speakers please correct me here.

Not a German speaker, but you are correct. The umlaut is incorrect on the masculine form of Wolf in German (which is just Wolf). The feminine, Wölfin, does have an umlaut though.

Given BGW's past umlaut usage, they clearly just think it's a thing they can shove on vowels to make a word look aesthetically German.

Honestly, if German being in the name wasn't a necessity for them, Wolf Hunt might've been the way to go. It's nothing like Cheetah Hunt as a ride, but it would've been some decently amusing continuity between parks. Add the umlauts if you need to. Maybe I'm in the minority but that name would've likely grown on me after a while if they went with it. It doesn't feel nearly as forced as the options presented

It's crazy all the better suggestions on this thread versus what the park's "creative team" came up with. Even just Ghost Wolf would've been okay.. but tbh the park's chosen names + the suggestions here are infinitely better than the generic boringness of the name "Phoenix Rising." By all accounts, the BGW version of this particular ride is gonna be FAR superior.
As for the name, I think I've gone through all the stages and arrived at acceptance:
Stage 1: Oh those are the options?
Stage 2: Well I guess WölfsReign it is.
Stage 3: Damn these options kinda suck.
Stage 4: Wölfsturm is kinda cool.
Stage 5: Damn Parkfans have some way better suggestions. Maybe just maybe BGW will read this and reconsider.
Stage 5: GeisterWölf is probably best cuz it has a ring to it and it's like Alpie's lil bro since it's an invert too.
Stage 6: If they're gonna go the return of the wolf route, the name should be iconic.
Stage 7: What rolls off the tongue and signifies the everlasting menace of the Big Bad?
Stage 8: And I arrive back to Wölfsreign. I think they should make the 'R' lowercase. It's the best option of the 3 and it signifies the continued dominance of the wolf and a new era. You townspeople got a little too comfy in your celebrations and forgot...the wolf always comes back!
