I find it interesting that the day the weather was so bad they needed to close the park early for the safety of guests and employees that they supposedly had a soft open.

Looking at it from the parks perspective this was a phenomenal day to soft open for several reasons. Mainly the weather detracting guests from the park leaving a chunk of people who want to be there who could potentially have visited the park many times and are slightly more knowledgeable about the park. Due to these low numbers it also makes soft opening much more manageable compared to a busy spring break day flooded with tourists. On an VR attraction with the possibility of lengthy lines opening up to this large of a test pool could lead to a mass failure. It would be better for the park to build up to these numbers to prepare for the official opening. Also, with a soft opening the attraction could close af any time so with a lack of guests in the park there’s less of a chance of guests not being able to ride leaving with that negative experience.

Just would like to say I have no association with any themepark I’m simply just guessing why BfE soft opened after witnessing many years of soft openings at BGW. I’ve heard some extremely positive reviews!

That's really good to know. I wonder if the bugs from the Media Day opening were more or less solved leading to positive reviews like that with the handful of guests who rode it.

It seems that the TVs in the queue are working now and the "Otherworld Travel Guide" looks cartoony in a good way. The designs reminds me of a picture Nora once posted of an old coloring book from the Old Country era (I think).

Also the fact that now they are running today gives them some experience before the park is closed for several days. This gives them time to assess the operations before opening day, and make any necessary changes.

I got a ride in today. It was very enjoyable. Most importantly, the general public seemed to love it. I'm sure it will prove popular.

That settles it! When a new attraction has the Thomas stamp of approval, then the ride is a full blown masterpiece. ;-D

Truthfully though, at least in my opinion, it's not a masterpiece. It's nice and the GP will adore it, but it's also a bit juvenile and generally unrefined. I'd contend that Corkscrew Hill had a much stronger story and considerably better world-building than Battle for Eire.

Eire will be a resounding success as long as the tech is worked out and the comfort doesn't play a big role in turning people off to it. That said, as VR expands in the industry and actual storytellers and world-builders get ahold of it, I worry BfE will quickly end up quite antequated.

Just my two cents.

I personally hope doing the animation and using VR would allow them to update the story and world building if needed. (I know Corkscrew Hill was animated, but that was early on)

For someone that's been on it:
Is it true there's bonus "side quests" built into the VR experience? I think that's something they could really use to unlock VR to a level that we haven't seen.

That is essentially what they told us on the media tour but I am fairly skeptical of the claim to be honest.

One of the final scenes shows that where you look does impact the world that is being displayed, but on my three rides I couldn't figure out anything that substantively changed as a result of what I did.

I would love it to be true that if everyone decides not to capture the Heart of Eire you can collectively fail to save The Otherworld, but it seems doubtful.

You sure you didn't accidentally mix up Corkscrew Hill with Curse of DarKastle? I enjoyed Corkscrew Hill long ago as a kid, but looking at it now feels a bit small; with the world building feeling rather empty and the story being quite unrefined in places. Now if you said Curse of DarKastle then yeah I'd undestand that completely. After seeing the reverse POV videos of the ride and hearing the ride's story, it sounds better than Corkscrew Hill's story was. I don't know, until the day comes when a full POV video comes out with everything (Pre-show rooms and the ride itself) then I'll get the full picture.

As for DarKastle, it was world's ahead of both of the previously mentioned examples. Not even the same ballpark in my honest opinion.

Now THAT, I completely agree with. Curse of DarKastle (despite Ludwig's puns causing the tone to waver) to me was a class above what anything had come before it or will come afterwards. I knew from the start that Battle for Eire would have to be judged as a different ride on a different level.
