RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

that was stupid to donate that. sure it is a charitable thing to do, but seriously, bbw is a very rare and valued coaster. Think about the crowds that visited it. It often had the longest line in the park, esp on slow days. It was a big red heap of valueable steel that they could have used for their next coaster.

The good thing is if they are donating it, the financial outlook must be good.

BBW had the longest ride in the park because the cars only seat two across, they take a little longer to load, and because it was the longest coaster in the park. Not because it was really popular.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I agree with Yoshi. It was a great ride, but the line was always long, not because a ton of people where riding, but because of capacity. Also, I don't think I saw all 3 trains on the track all of last season, did anyone else?

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

1. yes there are two seats abreast but there are still four seats a car. Take a look at a pic and youll see that the cap is very similar to other rides.
2. This is for swift. There were three train running on most weekends and some weekdays during the hight of the season.

P.S.: there were more people riding it. Even if it wasn't a great ride, the tourists ate it up seeing as how only a little over a dozen or two were ever made(and very few are still open). The real reason that they closed it was, I think, that the cost to run it was greater than the perceived crowd draw profit.

-It still doesn't change the fact that the ride was a gold mine.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

How many rows are there though? I believe it still comes out less than any other coaster in the park (except Nessy seeing that it has the same train design). Also, Yoshi made another good point. It was the longest ride in the park (because it had two lifts).

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

it ran arrow's standard set of 7 cars of 4 a piece. so the line might have been longer due to that but by stats, only about 20% longer than apollo(plus the load time difference which wasn't much).

About the longest transit time it always had a train ready to queue, so if it was slower, it wasn't much slower.

btw here are the caps for each ride train:

apollo-36
loch ness-28
bbw-28
alpengiest-32
griffon-30

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

Words cannot express my joy and yet still sorrow of not being able to ride it.... but perhaps maybe they will consider it to be operational once more. I may have to visit Santa this year and ask him for a bit of Christmas Magic for the Wolf.

It is a good idea that Busch Gardens donated the coaster; yet my opinion is that it may only have been to appease coaster folks like ourselves for the damage done. Besides, I still await the replacement... it better be good - that is sacred ground they are messing with.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

As you all know, I HATE the idea if BGW getting a drop tower (as in one like @ KD). The weird thing is, I'm about to throw something out there that might be what BGW was looking for. Here is how it is described:

Story driven indoor Free Fall experience including fog-projection, mirror effects, dynamic projection effects, stroboscopic effects, on and off board audio plus special effects and dynamic seating.

To see it for yourself, go here and click "Portfolio" then "Formats" then go to the last one, "Vertical Climax".

I picture it like a well done Tower of Terror (which I enjoyed BTW). It could be done in a castle, tower, ect. What do you all think? The only thing I see is that they already have three 3D attractions/shows (two of which move). It would be different though.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

Please, no. There are already too few rides I can/will ride at BGW. I can't do drops, not matter what the experience is. I've never been on Corkscrew Hill either, and I have trouble with DarKastle because of the 3D glasses. I can't focus with them over my own glasses.

I really hope it's a coaster, and a flyer at that, just like Manta... except themed for Germany.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I would expect a coaster as well. If it is a new country, I hope they wouldn't just have one ride.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

My idea I sent to Busch Gardens was a Drop Tower. I told them that if they Built Greece (where Festa is and all the way Behind and connecting to Italy), that they call it "The Fall of Icarus" and the whole thing is covered with Grecian Mosaic tiles and the very top has a Glowing, beautifully themed sun at the top. The Ground Below would also be painted and tiled to go with the theme.

I also thought of having a really cool Maze in my "whole package plan" I signed sealed and delivered regarding Greece that would include a spooky "Menatour's Maze" - think of all the cool rides you could have from Greece - Medusa, Hercules, Zeus, Olympia, Hades, Chaos, I could go on and on... I STILL think my Parthenon enclosed (weather-proof) structure for eating and entertainment is a cool idea; being that the only place to eat in the rain is the Festhaus. (really - italy you are still getting pretty wet - and cold). Stores- I even came up with store names like "Pandora's Box" for Greek Gifts, "Gaia's Gifts" - an eco gift store, and Aphrodite's Ambrosia - where you can buy fruit smoothies and ice cream (mmmm... Baklava ice cream). ahhhhh- it would be so darn cool.. I have always wanted a "haunted River cruise"; if Busch created Greece and a boat port connection then they could somehow light the waterway (with a few creatures popping up from underneath the water) and even have a man dressed as Charon (the ferry man that carries the dead in Greek Mythology) that takes you to and from ports. Awesome.... and yet.......grrrr... because it will never happen.

Anyway, I digress.

I'm not a super-huge fan of Drop Towers either, but if the park did put one in; I thought that my idea would be a good for a theme.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

So, it looks like the initial reports regarding the survival of the Wolf in it's entirety were a little too hope driven. It looks like when/if the National Roller Coaster Museum gets off the ground, it will have a train as well as one or more sections of track and all of the signage.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

That is a real shame. At least it isn't all going to the scrap-yard. I hope they let you sit in the trains. Man, when they open, I'll be making a trip.

Also, I guess since the National Roller Coaster Museum (NRCM- is that a good abbreviation?) is getting the sign, I can never have it as a lawn decoration... Just think,

Friend: "I put out the little gnomes again this year."
Me: "Well, I have something better than last year."
Friend: "That is what you said last year- you know aliens don't look good in a front yard. So what do you have this time?"
Me: "Take a look" *Shows picture* [Picture below- yes, it is meant to look bad]

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I have read some suggestions on this site and others about making the new coaster a tribute to the Drachen Fire. Though it was a rough ride, it is still one of my favorites and I would love to see it. The BBW was special to me because it was the first big coaster my two oldest kids were able to ride, but there is something about the Drachen Fire that just won't die.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

First of all, welcome to the forums!

Back on subject now. From an enthusiast perspective, I would much rather have a "Drachen Fire done right" (a.k.a. a B&M Sit-Down), however, if I where a main-stream guest, a B&M Flyer would be much more of a draw to a park, just because it is different. In-other-words, I want a B&M Sit-Down, but I predict that we are getting a flyer.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I would love to see a smaller coaster myself something the littler fans could ride replacing BBW. My nephew is so bummed he has nothing to ride for at least 1 more year. But then the Manta rider in me is screaming bring it baby!!! I’m so torn, oh what the hay there’s enough room build both.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

The map I posted had room for two coasters... I think there is room, and we will probably get both eventually, the question is, which are we getting first.

Thank you for the welcome.

I agree about the B&M. They do make the best coasters. I have never been on a flyer, though I'm not very far from Superman at Six Flags in Atlanta. Mainly because my daughter isn't big enough to ride on one yet. I want to go to BGT to ride the one B&M built there similar to the Drachen Fire. Maybe one day.

I agree with you there. BBW was great because of the shorter height requirements. I have seen many posts on different sites saying the same thing. BBW was the first real coaster for both of my older kids, but my younger two will have to wait a little longer I guess.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

BBW was a coaster in its own class. It could be enjoyed by almost anyone because it was thrilling, yet fun; graceful; yet powerful, ect.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

According to my sources....you're all wrong. "Its gonna change the game in the park the way Darkastle did". It will cost about $51 million, and will be a hybrid of sorts....it will be announced in 2011 and should open in 2012...after the BGT project.

I wouldn't be upset with a new type of attraction that hasn't been mentioned.

The talk has been about a flyer since before the 2009 season began and has been steady which makes me think a flyer is going in at some point, but, you're not the first person I've heard use the term hybrid to describe the new attraction going in, so I have to give that some credence.

I've also heard rumors that the addition to the park would include some type of large indoor attraction.

The timeline you suggested makes sense for any attraction that goes in. Do you have any other info that's more specific? Is one attraction going to cost $51 million, or multiple attractions?
