RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

This thread has been kind of quiet for a little while now, so I'll bring up another discussion.

Anyone think there is a possibility of a drop tower going into a new section? I've heard a lot of rumors about the possibility of an indoor drop tower. At first I thought that would mean an entirely enclosed ride, but it would more likely be a ride enclosed maybe a quarter or even half way up (perhaps castle tower theming).

While I'm not keen on any type of Intamin going into BGW (yes, I know Pompeii is an Intamin), I'll use Hurakan Condor at Port Aventura as an example of what a tower a BGW could look like. I'm sure it would not be as tall as Condor, but it may employ a similar base structure and even it's unique ride element (it's a stand-up drop tower).

Here's a picture of the base structure:

Here's an offride video:

What does everyone think about the possibility of something like this? Would you even want something like this?

That would be pretty good, themeing wise but Busch needs a few more Medium-Leveled attractions to make up for losing the BBW

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I was thinking of this earlier today and decided to put it up for discussion to see if it's just crazy talk or if it actually makes some sense.

Does anyone else think it's possible that the removal of Big Bad Wolf and it's replacement have been in the works since 2005? Let me give you my reasoning.

Griffon replaced Le Mans Raceway (much to the dismay of Swiftman). Other than the cost of gas being relatively high (which I don't see as a legit reason for removing a ride), I've not heard any other reason why Griffon had to be located there especially with all that empty land sitting over there (please, nobody try to make the argument that it would have low ridership due to location. Plenty of people seem to be able to find Festhaus Park during HOS).

The park knew BBW was coming up on it's end of service period, perhaps they began making plans for that area even before deciding where Griffon was going to be located.

What does everyone else think? Sound plausible?

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

Um, it has most likely been in the works since about 2005-2006. It takes approximately 4-5 years from conception to completion. Since they knew BBW would be at its end this year, they knew they'd need something by 2010. So yeah, you're probably right.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

Not to long ago, I'm pretty sure that someone (not on this site- Twitter I think) said that the chain was off the first lift of BBW... I was there today, and the chain was still on it (you can see it from the bumper cars). The trains (from what I can see at least) are gone.

I agree with Chris as well. They knew it was coming, and it isn't like Busch to not have a plan. I love how you caught onto my hate of Griffon/love of Le Mans. :D

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I was looking for Christmas Town news, and I found something interesting. On the Attractions page of the Christmas Town site, it shows Der Autobahn as being open. Looks like it will be sticking around...

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

Yeah, it looks like unless they make some quick work of any removal it will remain in the park. It will be interesting to see what happens with it. If construction does begin on Festhaus Park it will be continuing throughout next season so, there is a possibility that it could be removed during next season (if it is removed at all).

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

Well Der Autobahn is a family ride. Family rides have not fared all that well in the last few years. Oh Der Autobahn, I feel you will be gone soon.

As they say in the fashion industry, "Sometimes you're in and sometimes your Out", auf Wiedersehen Der Autobahn. I hope Tim Gun doesn't come soon to tell you to go upstairs and pack your things :(

I still hold hope that they may replace the Wolf with another coaster as an homage. The "Revenge of the Wolf", "Son of the Wolf", or my own personal favorite: "The Bigger Badder Wolf"

Alas, what we will get will be the walls of construction that states :A new attraction coming soon in 2012 or even later... and the process will be long and tedious as the "will-it-ever-be-finished" Harry Potter addition to Universal.

We'll see soon enough...

Or will we????

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

Ha, Tim Gun, why did you have to bring him up? Now I'll think of him & his voice sitting in some board room making decisions about what happens in the park.

I certainly hope that if it is removed, it will just be moved to somewhere else in the park. I remember having a blast on Autobahn as a kid and what kind of theme park doesn't have bumper cars?

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I love Tim Gun! :p I wish I had a pocket size Tim Gun that I could sit on my dresser and have him help me pick out clothes in the morning. Heh~

Wouldn't that be hilarious?? Tim Gun in the board room discussing park additions and him spouting "Make it work"~ too funny.

Anyway, when you mentioned BG possibly removing the Autobahn, all I could hear was Heidi Klum's German accent saying "You're A'ut" I agree though, they need to keep the family rides. Too bad that they have yet to consider my Greece concept because I just got a cool idea. They could move the cars to this area and call it "Clash of the Titans" ho ho ho.

Personally, if they touch the sacred land and build upon the holy site of the BBW ::que heavenly choir music:: just like in Pet Cemetery, a Zombie Wolf will rise from the concrete and haunt those who decided to tear it down. I'm sorry, I am tired, and when I am tired.. I become quite silly. It is a funny image though....I may have to draw this as a Cartoon Panel :D

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

There's some speculation down in Tampa that a new coaster is being planned as there were confirmed sightings of survey balloons at the park. Those are usually used to determine how visible a tall object will be from different areas. Obviously this speculation relates to us here in WBurg because, as you know, what Tampa gets, Williamsburg gets.

What do you guys think?

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I think Tampa is just getting what they should of gotten years ago, a real hyper. I hope this isn't a shift in the "what Tampa gets, Williamsburg gets better" rule. I think what it comes down to is, which Busch does Blackstone want to be their "flagship" park. BEC chose the Orlando Sea World as their flagship Sea World, but tried to keep the love going to BGW and BGT about equal. I don't think that Blackstone sees it the same way though.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

It's hard to say if or which Busch Blackstone would like to make their flagship. If they have an eye towards expansion, then Williamsburg is the park they want to go with. The options in WBurg are better since the Tampa park is, while big, closed in, leaving no real room for additional expansion.

If the WBurg park does in fact start to take a turn towards an extended season, that offers more options for Blackstone (who owns Hilton) to make additions to the park that could turn it into a resort park rather than just the park standing on it's own. Universal Orlando has laid a nice blueprint for a resort area built around their parks and Great Wolf Lodge has shown that the year round resort can survive here in WBurg.

It's not too hard to imagine a Great Wolf Lodge type resort attached to the park, especially with an extended season and some type of shuttle to other Historic Triangle attractions. The reason I mentioned that Blackstone owns Hilton was just to mention that they have some experience in the lodging business.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

If they build a "resort" park it would be great to see a campground built. We love the KD campgrounds and to see them do something similar would be great.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I feel like I recall coming across some old trademark documents showing there was at least some thought early on in the park's history of having some camping and/or RV areas that had the Busch name. Couldn't say where the area(s) would have been located though. There are a number of areas around James City County that carry the Busch name.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

HUGE news about the taking down and relocating of the Big Bad Wolf.

Yeah, just saw that, it's great news. It takes a tiny bit of the sting off to know it will still exist and be seen.

My thoughts exactly.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

Ah, not sold for money. Donated to a good cause. Great idea. And not too far to travel if it is actually put in PA!

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

that was stupid to donate that. sure it is a charitable thing to do, but seriously, bbw is a very rare and valued coaster. Think about the crowds that visited it. It often had the longest line in the park, esp on slow days. It was a big red heap of valueable steel that they could have used for their next coaster.

The good thing is if they are donating it, the financial outlook must be good.
