RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

According to my sources....you're all wrong. "Its gonna change the game in the park the way Darkastle did". It will cost about $51 million, and will be a hybrid of sorts....it will be announced in 2011 and should open in 2012...after the BGT project.

I wouldn't be upset with a new type of attraction that hasn't been mentioned.

The talk has been about a flyer since before the 2009 season began and has been steady which makes me think a flyer is going in at some point, but, you're not the first person I've heard use the term hybrid to describe the new attraction going in, so I have to give that some credence.

I've also heard rumors that the addition to the park would include some type of large indoor attraction.

The timeline you suggested makes sense for any attraction that goes in. Do you have any other info that's more specific? Is one attraction going to cost $51 million, or multiple attractions?

The one attraction will cost that much, which is part of a two phase project. No details were known, like what it would be themed to, and this info was learned by my source BEFORE wolf was announced to be closed. So this could have changed....although, not likely, as they solidify plans years in advance.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

Yeah, I'm sure the plans included the closure of BBW. Interesting... That's a big number for one attraction. Anyone have any idea what other high priced attractions are? I know Rip, Ride, Rockit at Universal was $45 Million. Would this be one of the highest priced attractions in the world?

Rockit was I believe 30 million at first, but then escalated. Manta was 52 million, Spiderman alone was 200 million dollars. And all of IOA cost a billion.
other expensive rides:
Jurassic Park- 110 million
Mission:space- 120 million
Indiana Jones adventure- 90-120 million
test track- 70 million
Twilight zone tower of terror- 100+ million
Expedition everest- 120+ million

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

To be honest, I hope it is not a hybrid attraction like Darkastle. Plainly stated, I just want a good coaster. I would be very said to see a big blocky building monstrosity of an indoor ride there; so I am with Chris. If it is anything, I hope it is a very cool, high dollar flyer (and if it swings over the river a'la BBW- all the better). Darkastle is a fun ride but since I have been to the park more times than I should mention, the thrill of those sort of rides really wears off for me.

For example, when I went to Universal and the like down in Florida, the theme hybrid rides are fun but if I went again I would more than likely bypass those for any coaster - any day.

Yaytez, I appreciate the cool info you posted. If the park is spending that much money on a project and my folks who I know that work there are buzzing with excitement, I am sure that BGW will deliver on something fantastic.

If the other facts are confirmed that you mentioned, I must say that is pretty much what I summed up construction wise that my theory was a "two-phase" deal with part of it opening sooner - the latest opening in 2012... I mean... you can't just keep pumping that kind of money in without finding a way to get it back as fast as possible.

One thing I noticed this past Saturday looking at the empty, no trace left location of the BBW is that the trees were barely touched. This bodes well for me in the sense that one thing I despise most is wiping out trees and putting concrete slab rides down. Terrain coasters are a standard of high quality... makes the ride seem organic to the park and looks as if it sprouts from the ground like the surrounding flora and fauna.. let us hope that whatever replaces the Wolf takes very few of the beautiful trees along with it.
Thanks again... spring of 2010 is right around the corner folks... we should have a countdown to the announcement!

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I want a two stage project. If it opens all at once, I think it would be too rushed.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I'm willing to bet it won't be a coaster. Why would they take out a family attraction and put in an adult's attraction? I think this goes hand and hand with Sesame Street. Although the petting zoo had been closed for ages and used for Wicked Woods/Seadog Cemetery during Howl-o-Scream, they replaced it with a childrens attraction in the end. They're trying to gear their park towards families, not adults. I've heard the rumors of a two part project from a pretty reliable source, as well.

I'm also willing to bet it's a project that ISN'T another country.

I know Busch tries to replace trees they remove with younger trees, but they just take so long to grow back! Sesame is so barren and hot. Silly trees.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

With all the talk of an announcement coming by the end of Jan., people have been speculating that this could be the announcement for the BBW replacement. Well, it's not going to be. I'm hearing that the replacement project announcement will be coming sometime during this summer. That means we should start seeing an increase in trademark filings as well as new construction permit applications in the next few months. We'll see what happens.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

Chris, I agree with you.

My hope however, is that in the place of the Big Bad Wolf would be two coasters; a new Adult coaster and a smaller version for younger crowds. This would be kind of like how Busch Gardens used to be when they often made smaller versions of the adult coasters. (A flyer or some sort of flyer-hybrid would be so cool - possible terrain coaster like the Wolf was which would be awesome that incorporates the Rhine River somehow). Keep in mind that it also has to be a coaster that sticks to the rules of the height restrictions of Williamsburg and something that appeases the rich folks of Kingsmill. (unfortunately)

It is still sad to see that children will not have the BBW coaster option as I remember well the joy of knowing I was tall enough to ride it when I was seven, but I just cannot see any coaster company building with such a low height requirement these days on the scale of what the BBW was, nor do I see a coaster that Busch Gardens would build at this stage that would not be a "sure bet" to bring in the dollars.

It is a tough call; but honestly, if they don't put a coaster in the Wolf's spot and it isn't remotely equal to the BBW (in my standards anyway) it would be unforgivable. I thought of a cool name for a coaster that has a "Wolf" theme.

Der WerWulf. I know that the actual name "Werewolf" is Germanic in origin... and has been a popular story in Germany and Europe for that matter for centuries.

The kiddie coaster could be called "der kleine Wulf" or "der Wulfwelpe" (Wolf pup) although "der wilde Wulf" is cool too.

 I know.. I know... me and my "wolf" thing.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I think those names are awesome. It would be nice to have other wolf themed rides.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

There are now multiple sources claiming that the park filed for a 250ft. height waiver at a planning commission meeting tonight. I should be able to confirm or deny relatively soon (apparently the filing will be going into the online case tracking database for James City County soon).

UNCONFIRMED!!

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

Well, I stand corrected! This seems odd to me... I am going to throw this out there: If it is a coaster that is 200+ feet, I don't think that it will be a B&M. If this is true, I'm thinking drop tower.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

Just so everyone is aware, the park got a 250 ft. waiver for Griffon also. Just because it is for 250 doesn't mean it's going all the way up. This would be between 200 and 250 ft. if it's true.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

250 is probably generic, and also could be because of the height needed for the cranes or that they will need to go up nearly that high to put pieces into place. Of course, it could be for a building and not a coaster at all. We don't know anything and they aren't telling us anything either. I hate puzzles. :(

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

250 for a building? Are will just trying to start a war with Kingsmill? :)

I BELIEVE I WAS THE 1ST TO BRING THIS UP! I don't want to sound all complainy or anything, but I said BGW was working on getting a 250 ft. building permit. I just want to let you know this, I'm not complaining or anything just pointing out a fact. I do think It could be a drop tower, they seem to be getting a little bit popular.

Yeah, you were the first to bring it up here. I was going to put your name in the post but wasn't 100% sure it was you and didn't want to make someone upset if it had been them that brought it up.

You can take a look at the post on the regular site, I've updated it.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

Okay, I understand, but yeah I did bring it up first and it just made me think, who else is he talking about because I started the thread building permits to bring it up? So yeah it's alright, thanks for updating it.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

Trust me Kcracken, you aren't the only one who doesn't want a drop tower. I'd rather have nothing than have the landscape destroyed with a huge, ugly tower.
