RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I've said it before and I'll say it again. If you want an amusement park go to Kings Dominion. They are good at what they do over there. If you want an experience, go to Busch Gardens. I'll be the first to say that Kings Dominion is the best Amusement Park I've ever been to. I'll also be the first to say that Busch Gardens is the best Theme Park I've ever been to. The key is to distinguish the two. You can't compare apples to oranges and you can't compare Amusement Parks with Theme Parks. They are made to do different things. In my opinion five good coasters is the perfect number. Lets look at Holiday World. Many people would argue that Holiday World is the best Theme Park on this planet. Why? The experience. They have three coasters, all of which are woodies. What puts them apart from say, Kings Dominion who has 4 (arguably 5) woodies? They only build the best. Busch is the same. When Busch builds a coaster they don't go for numbers. It is all about what you value the most: Quality or Quantity. Personally I take quality, however, here are many who would disagree and take quantity. I don't have a problem with that at all. Lucky for us, we have both relatively close to each other. O, and just a side not: Look at last years attendance. The general public know what they want. ;)

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I dont want a hybrid. Thirteen is good but it is just a mini coaster with a short dark ride element. It all sounds gimmicky and if the make it a hybrid that would suck money from making it a reasonable size. I would be glad to get a hyper-twister. Some thing with positive G's and some good inversions. They have alpengiest but they need to get more options. they have two airtime coasters a terrain coaster and that leaves Alpie as their only intense coaster. If they built one in the area of 200-250 that would be great. They could then use that speed to make the worlds tallest vertical loop. We need to back track and let the loops and coaster elements catch up with the height of coasters. of cousre there are limits to the Human body but we haven't hit those yet.

on second thought lets get a hybrid. we can call it the loch ness monster and have a cave when you have a close encounter with it. oh wait, we don't need a new coaster for that. ;)

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

If it is a Euro-Fighter (as I hope it is) they are intense little rides. (The Saw video is a mounted POV with all effects turned off.)

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I've seen some people speculating that this could just be a construction permit for the drop tower and a revamp of the area around it. It does make some sense, especially since the park will want to move things around in that area to compensate for the increased traffic the tower will bring and would want to add some type of food services there since there are none over there currently.

Also, we have to remember that the last application made by the park for the tower was just a height waiver application, not a construction permit.

It said rides (with an s at the end). I'm hoping that means the drop tower isn't the only thing going in there.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

Yeah, it says rides, but if things are going to be moved around in that area it would include the flat rides, which they need permits to move. Don't get me wrong, I'm hoping for true expansion, just don't be too disappointed if this application turns out to be just for the area around the drop tower.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I think that this application is just for the drop tower; however, I also stick to my belief that the drop tower is just there to keep people happy for one more year while we wait for the true Replacement Project For The Big Bad Wolf (as indicated in my theoretical timeline that I posted earlier today).

Why are they waiting? I'd say it was a combination of the economy and waiting for people to forget about The Wolf. I doubt that they want people to compare the new coaster to The Wolf.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

At first I was really excited, but now I agree with Chris and Swiftman. The wording of the permit does go along with the drop tower and some supporting flats and snacks. I think this will probably be just what it says, an expansion of Germany, not a new hamlet. But I also hope that this is just phase one.
Does the 4328 building square feet hold any significance? How does that fit over the BBW's old area?

I'm probably speaking for a few of the big Wolf fans when I say: That is not going to happen. I will never forget about The Big Bad Wolf! Once a new coaster is built, the first thing I'm going to do is compare it to the Wolf!

And if it's a flyer, I won't even bother comparing it because I will already hate it...

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I know that everyone here (including me) will never forget The Wolf, but the general public is nothing like us. ;)

(Fix't a very hilarious spelling error ~Fur Dozy)

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I am not so sure. If you read most of the posts on Facebook (BGW's page) or just read things people have said at various places on the internet; I do not feel the Wolf will just be forgotten.

There are a lot of pissed off parents and kids right now.. and folks who just enjoyed the coaster.

The Wolf was not like the Drachen Fire. It was loved by many, a classic. Whatever does go there will be looked at as a replacement and it will have a much harder road to please people than any other location for a ride.

At this point I have given up speculation.. I have moved into "judgment" phase. What BGW does now in place of the Wolf is critical; for me especially.

All I can say is ff the BBW house is used for a line for a drop tower and that space is so much sneezed on by a drop tower I will be furious.

It would have to be the drop tower of gold, where angles come down to sing when it rises in the air for me to be interested.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

As I said before, none of us will ever forget The Wolf, but the general public isn't anything like us. Most of the general public just see it as another coaster and now they are looking for something bigger. To quote someone earlier:
Lets Go above the limits of roller coasters an go big. Hyper coasters are the most thrilling you dont know when its coming. lets beet king da cob in the worlds fastest an tallest roller coaster. Lets get that title of the records this is our chance to win that goal people will come all over the world just to ride this one ride. Lets do something new Lets go bigger, bader,an more thrilling rides for us riders.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I really don't like that comment (no offense) but seriously? I don't think it makes sense to want any of those feats or goals. You can't pass the height barrier or speed barrier w/o another park beating u after u open the ride... its the way they market. Its what apple does, accept instead of many companies, there are many products and their successors. Apple releases the ipad, and while it lacks a camera and some other great features, they sell like 400,000 in the first week. Then six months later they'll release the next-gen with a camera or two and other great features. Even more will be sold in its first week out. People want more features all the time. In the theme park industry, people want bigger and better if they have access to it.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

Ah Swifty~ I was not speaking in regards to your post only; but the general feeling by many that only hard core fans will be critical of the park and the replacement for the wolf, and I just do not feel that it is true. You know I think you are completely awesome.

Going back to another general feeling here; the only thing that will make people forget about the Wolf (and I shudder at that sad thought) is if whatever goes there ends up being so spectacular that no one cares anymore about the past.

There are three outcomes:

1) Say if something that we think is great is placed there that fails to deliver, much like Europe in the Air, EVERYONE will say "They took the Wolf down for this? Really?"

2) If something goes in that appeals to the here and now market.. it will be a big splash and then the "biggest, fastest, etc..etc.." record will be broken in less than a year. Sadly, this new "bigger, faster contraption will only be ridden by those tall enough and daring to do so; leaving those who had very little ride options out in the cold.

OR...third option here: Plan on building something unique, fun, that captures what made the Wolf so special - yet take it to another level (still allowing the younger folks to ride). It doesn't have to be a record holder- it just needs to be different, fun, and well built.... but let's face it... a coaster at least.

Regardless, I think I shall be like the Lorax who speaks for the trees. I will be out there to continually remind folks about the once great coaster that stood. I only wish I could plant a seed and a whole new BBW sprouts from it.. that would indeed..... be awesome. (Although if that were the case, one would be growing out in my backyard right now).

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I know you were not only speaking to my post, but I just thought it important to elaborate on what I had stated earlier. ;)

Just as a side note: When I was there yesterday there were black boxes on top of two of the footers on the hill. Anyone know what they are for? (Sorry if this is old news, hadn't been to the park in a good two weeks.)

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I took a photo of that! I think they are speakers that play the IllumiNights music during the fireworks. Attached is a photo. :) My ninja eyes miss nothing!

I thought that is what they could be, but I couldn't see enough detail to tell for sure. Thanks for the picture. I really need to start taking my camera with me...
