So, for those who have seen the new Oktoberfest, does it in general feel in keeping with the European theme the park has had to date, or not? In other words, even if you are unhappy with some specific aspects, does it still look like BGW? Or do you get the sense they are changing the branding to something more generic and less European-themed? Pretzels and beer are certainly German, of course, but as far as the decor, even if you don't like the specific colors, say, does it still look European?

I ask because to me this year's fun tracker just looks very generic and not European in flavor, with more of an emphasis on the cartoon characters like Hip Hop Harry and guest acts and without any European look to it at all.

From what I have seen they appear to be coping with the modern day Oktoberfest colors and theme. That has of course evolved from the 70s and BGW was the behind the times but now caught back up with it.

OK...go to Google and type in oktoberfest...exactly like that. Scroll down through the pictures. Besides all the beer and beergirls you can see that the main color scheme is blue and white. Also there is a picture of some beer mugs that are very similar to the murals on the the sides of the new pretzel shop. All in all I say that BG is doing EXTREMELY well with the retheming.

So yeah...once it's done it'll be extremely well done

This. Only thing they are missing is the girls

Just to keep you all who haven't been yet updated, there wasn't really anything new to see in Oktoberfest today except for a boatload of flags:

I am happy that the park staged the area well with entrance flags, but most of all I'm just happy the trees are finally filling in. The park just looks too bare without them.

But remember-BGW is 17th century Europe, not modern Europe.

BTW, IMO the beer and pretzel shop seems to take up too much room. It especially took away from DarKastle's dramatic appearence.

What happened to the Here's to the Heros bridge? It's now an Oktoberfest bridge. Was HttH AB? They still have the free admission HttH, though.

Lastly, is it just me, or is "Peter Cottontail" or "I Want Candy" or "The Candy Man" not German? (All were playing in Oktoberfest.)
Those songs are only playing because they have the Easter Bunny available for pictures. They'll be gone after Easter.

Last I checked New France was in fact Canada. Europe? I think not.

Also guys, Oktoberfest is themed to Bavaria, Germany and Bavarian culture. Here is their flag:

Their colors have been blue and white since at least the 1500s, probably way before then. It's not a modern day thing, it's definitely traditional.

*Edit* Though, this does raise a question. Why is BGW so inconsistent with their flag use? I mean they use both the German and Bavarian flags, and yet they only use the Union Jack to represent England (Which is itself a country), when they have their own flag? I digress.

I'm guessing they just kinda...gave up on it. The HttH stuff hasn't been up since the park began advertising for Illuminights last year. And I should mention that the HttH stuff is absent from BGT and Seaworld Orlando. I like the Bavarian Oktoberfest themeing better anyway.

It's part of the park's attempt to celebrate Easter. It's only temporary....I hope.

Is the HttH decor really gone from SeaWorld Orlando? I know that as of mid-January 2011, they still had the plaques along the walkway in front of the killer whale topiary in front of Shamu Stadium.

Also, I thought it was strange last summer that BGW removed their HttH decor while Water Country USA still had theirs up.

Actually, I don't know about that. I never really walked in that area. (I just kinda passed through Shamu Stadium to get to "Believe".) But as for BGT, all they have are "Letters from our heros" on poles outside Timbuktu, no mention of HttH.

And that was kinda weird. We'll just have to find out whether that's still up come May.

Not sure if anyone else mentioned this, but they've added two new shows to Oktoberfest. There is a new stage next to the pretzel shop for an oompah band show and there is a maypole show at the new maypole in front of the Festhaus, They have scheduled show times posted for each. We saw the maypole show yesterday. It was very cool. The cast is new and actually from Germany. ;)
