I haven't been able to go yet. How bad is it? Is it "I-can't-believe-they-consider-this-The-World's-Most-Beautiful-Theme-Park!" bad, or is it simply "Ouch..."?

I'm hoping for just "ouch", at worst:-/.

The park just stated that they will be closing at 1pm today due to inclement weather. I do not wanta be in that park right now with all of those ticked off people. But there is one good thing that comes out of it: 7 extra hours to fix, em, a lot.

Although I sadly doubt they'll use the extra time.

And when you look at the whole picture, this just adds to the crappy start of the year. And my beef with this is the fact that they are supposedly having some problems with training new employees and getting the park back into it's groove. Yes they're saving some money this weekend, but they're not saving guest complaints next weekend.

I don't know about "all those ticked off people" It's 36 degrees and raining, how many people are there. Being this cold, can they even operate the roller coasters?

I went there at about 9:15 to go to Lost and Found. I stayed for about a half an hour and chatted with some of the employees. I was the only guest at the park during the time I was there. Weather was pretty crappy. We were actually thinking about going tonight to see a few shows, have dinner (we have some dinner certificates we haven't used yet), and take advantage of the last day of the 30% off merchandise deal. Guess not though... oh, well.

-Touche - I just saw people on FB talking about going, and you know how their FB fans are.

They'll still run. It was colder than this one weekend of HoS and everything was still operable.

Griffon isn't. The ride system won't let them start the coaster if it's below 40 degrees.

Thank you coaster tour.

at the time they made the announcement...there were only 155 guests in the park, 36 degrees, and snowing...its a good thing they closed

Yeah good call on BGW's part. But like it was said earlier everyone on facebook planned on going and are now venting :dodgy:

honestly I dont think they would've gotten many more people...I was there and half of the shops and restaurants were not open...the only rides open were EiTA, DarKastle, Pompeii (and yes there were people on it (cheerleaders I might add)), the train, skyride, and Catapult...no one was even at Smokehouse, Grogan's had a sign that said "Closed today" and the coasters weren't even scheduled to open until 12. It's 2:00 now and it's not even above 37 degrees...yes the snow stopped but the coasters are still unable to run. And if they were to have extended the closing time they would have to call all of the employees they already sent home...they probably would've lost money rather than make money if they remained open for the day

Well, we went after checking that the park was open around 11 and 11:50 (website and phone call), left about 12:45, got there at 2:20 ish to find the park closed. Really felt we could've been given some warning that they might close or were considering closing. There was no precip by that point anywhere in the greater Richmond or W'burg areas anywhere that we passed through. Weather reports showing clear radar at that time, too, and we hadn't had anything falling after the very very early morning hours south of Richmond. So I'm guessing they closed due more to lack of response than the weather -- I've been there on preview days in the past when it was actively snowing and they didn't close, and of course Christmas Town has had much worse weather. Very unhappy at the slowness of them getting out the word of the closing, we called to check what happened and were told when the announcement was allegedly made on the phone system and so forth. Not impressed with the slowness in getting the word out. Oh well, Merchant's Square and New Town got our business today, not that that's where we wanted to be!

The phone announcement was posted at 1130 as well as on Facebook that they were closing. The attendace was beyond low at 11 to the point they were losing monday badly. They gave admission to return to those with one day passes. Christmastown is an event that is not built upon rides and coasters so it wouldn't have an affect then. When Christmastown had snow badly it shut down and same with the same one Saturday at sub-freezing.

Yeah I mean if I were head of the park and I only had 150 people at my park with the number of employees outnumbering the number of guests...I would close too...even though the rain/snow let up it was still well below 40 for the majority if the day...which means the roller coasters would've remained closed anyways...the announcement in the park didn't even happen until like 12ish. Obviously more people would've came when the weather let up but they would either have to keep all the restaurants and rides closed or call in all of their employees that were already sent home earlier in the day to run the place. The whole situation is weird especially seeing as how they were parking everyone in preferred parking...if they had remained open and more people came...they couldn't have fit everyone in preferred. But through the whole park no more than ten people we're ever in on place at a time...it was like walking through an abandoned amusement park...which is creepy enough

Yep, I checked by phone at 11 and no hint of closing and at about 11:50 was printing out my meal vouchers from the website, no hint of it then on the website. Don't follow fb, though I did go there just now as a non-registered user, and the comment about the employee-guest ratio not being where it needed to be confirmed my suspicion that it was only indirectly weather related.

Spent the day browsing up and down Merchant's Sq and New Town, both open air locations, and the weather was overcast then partly cloudy but no precip, ground dry, it just wasn't a bad day out after the early morning. Too bad more people didn't come so the employee-guest ratio would have been better. Certainly we experienced no road hazards or issues related to the weather or anything else, luckily.

Still I think some hint or earlier announcement of potential closing would have saved us an unnecessary 3 hours of driving round trip. We did think checking two communications outlets was sufficient, especially since we gave them an hour plus after opening, it's not like we called right at 10 am (hard opening time) and expected a final answer right then. We didn't feel the issue was handled optimally. Obviously not many others wanted to go to BGW today, hmmm.

I think they gave the weather and potential guests a chance but decided to close as a last minute thing and they chose one so that the 150 people there could get some use out of it and so they wouldn't loose toovmuch money...on the bright side...the guests that were there were happy to brave the weather and weren't too upset when we said the coasters would not be operating...one family I talked wasnt upset at all because they love just walking around

So back to Oktoberfest...

Sounds like they'll be making a big leap forward in progress this coming weekend with the announced opening of the pretzel shop on Friday. Who's going to be there?

I will be there sunday (mostly because I'll be working =D) But I normally get there about 20 minutes before my shift starts and walk around the park (imagine my expression when I saw that the Easter Bunny was there). But I'm very excited to see how it turns out

My faith has been for the most part restored. See, once the area comes together it all flows well. The past two weeks, the area has been no where near complete. Two things though - Has der Bier Garten been completed and is there any vertical construction on Mach Tower yet?
