People are going to come to the park because it is summer, and theme parks are what most people think of doing in the summer. Events during the spring, fall, and winter I get, because you are trying to drum up extra business. Summer events just seem like overkill. Other than the concerts, I can't see why having an extra summer event would attract more people than were already planning to visit.
My answer to your question is: to keep locals coming back again and again. If you've ever been there on a Friday or Sunday night, then you know that there aren't a lot of people in the park. BG is trying to find ways to keep people, like me (I'm local), interested in coming back over and over. It's the special events that keep me coming back, otherwise I would only go just a few times a year. I can appreciate the basic beauty and tranquility of the park, but I want something more for additional return visits. I don't want the park to remain static. I think they (BG) understands that and they want to create a diverse experience for us throughout the year. I welcome all the special events, even if it means sacrificing the look (ie clocktober).
