If I want to see something related to America and its history, I'd just go across the street to Colonial Williamsburg.  I don't understand why Busch seems to be going against their own perfectly good grain.

Not to mention CW is also like BGW these days. Less into actual authentic history and more into spas and resort clientele. Budget cuts, program losses, driving away their base fans while not drawing a new crowd, etc. Sound familiar? CW & BGW both need to dust off their original business charters and give them a read again.

Alright, so back when I was discussing Illuminights and its replacement, I brought up an American-themed event.  Yes, I did.  Why, you ask? Because, before it became a living advertisement for special events, the San Marco bridge featured Here's to the Heroes, a tribute to the men and women serving our country. Patriotic, national songs played and the different branches of the military were featured.  It was wonderful.

Now, with this "Americana" thing, the park could go two ways.

One way could be a fairly subtle, elegantly done American tribute to our heroes like what I described above, with a few decorations, signs about the military, some musicians, perhaps a show, and fireworks.  Something like this:

Then there's option two. I see the entire park decked out in red, white, and blue streamers and garland.  I can actually see American flag banners decking out the Abbey Stone Theatre. *shudders* See, given Scott's taste for "out there" wild and moreover ridiculous projects, I fear we'll more likely see something like this:

I honestly don't see how (or why) they would put a colonial-themed event in, so I would be that is out.  I would not mind, and would actually welcome an "option one" style event, but I fear "option two" is what we'll be seeing in one way or another.

We thought Illuminights was bad....

I guess Scott's philosophy, is that whenever something gets pushed out by un-popularity, just make something that's worse!

Also, maybe it's not the best idea to do an expensive summer-time event, when you are already having budget issues. Then it will turn out to be a cheap piece of crap. But no one at the park has common sense right now, especially not Scott Gasparich.

I know it could end up being fine, but I can't stop thinking things like EuroDisney, McDonalds in London, black market Levi's in the Soviet Block, and similar horrors.  (Admittedly, I liked the idea of Levi's in Moscow, but that was politics...)

Oookay, while I think this theme is REALLY SUPER WEIRD, I hold out hope that it will be the same sort of charming Americana seen in Holiday Hills and/or something "Hail to the Heroes"-esque.  Why they don't just replace Illuminights with Food and Wine plus fireworks is beyond me, but, hey, I'm not in charge of entertainment.

I think there is approximately -100% chance of them doing something colonial themed.  CW wouldn't stand for it.  They'd have Colonial Williamsburg Foundation lawyers jumping down their throats before they could say, "Fife and drum corps."

This is something big to take note of. The park will never do anything colonial theme. In fact, in the planning and development stages when the park was first being planned, a colonial theme was on the table but was rejected because Colonial Williamsburg and Williamsburg/James City County wouldn't allow it. That was when the idea for old world Europe came to fruition.

I think this might be a Forth of July special event elongated over the summer.
