Nope. I believe the method of giving the bird the answer may have changed a couple times, but as far as I know the show has never actually featured a bird who can do that sequence without cheating.

Yes. Laser pointer from behind the stage area to the correct number. You can see it it you sit on the extreme ends of the theater. Plus with all those cats it comes in handy.

Of course the laser pointer guy has to have a calculator handy for the tougher questions. I've definitely had the thought of asking something that isn't easily googleable - such as "What's the 40th digit of pi divided by two?"

This is why they ask the kids for the math problems, instead of the adults.

Though I think maybe 1/3 of the adults find the arithmetic to be every bit as challenging as the kids do. (If not the bird.)

I've also heard them say that the math problem is too complex for the bird before during shows.

Also from what I recall they are very clear on what math questions can be asked. Don't they provide the direction that it has to be 2 numerals and that you can only add/subtract/multiply/ divide only once?

At a show I attended, a kid asked for the cubed root of 81. I was impressed.

And they accepted it.

Yep, two numerals between 1 and 9 if I recall correctly.

For the record, birds doing math like that have been documented. I'm going to give the park the benefit of the doubt that they're trying to illustrate what's possible.

Meri, my girlfriend is a bird specialist. Specifically parrots. (hence why we have to of the noisy little fuckers... err I mean delightful and fun birds at home)
She did her thesis on that bird. Apparently he is quite brilliant (was?) and also unusual. That is not to say that African Gray's are not all smart, she tells me they have the biggest vocabs and can do the most (I use this term lightly only because their brains are SO different from ours) "Cognition" of any of the Parrots.

My cat still thinks they look like dinner...
