I'm not going to get into a big argument about this, but we've been over this. There is a PG-13 line I don't think should be crossed at Busch Gardens. You know...the reason they basically say that kids under 13 should leave before 6? Stripper nurses serving Jell-o shots wouldn't be acceptable for any place that routinely let in 15-year-olds, now would it? That kind of thing belongs at nightclubs...not amusement parks that allow in kids and teens.

So which is your problem, the nurses, or the shots?

If its the alcohol, then I'm going to say that if they sell beer, what's the issue in a few shots? It's not like a child who is over 13, has never seen or heard of alcohol. And any child who is young enough not to know about it, is obviously young, and encouraged not to attend.

If your problem is the nurses, it's not as if they're strippers. All they're doing is selling shots. They're not taking their clothes off. And again, if you are over thirteen, shouldn't be a big deal. It's not like there aren't video games and movies with females in skimpy clothing.

The crazy moms have attacked Busch about Fiends. I don't understand it. It is clearly labeled not appropriate for kids. So, don't take the kids in. It is simple as that. As from what I have heard, Way to Go Busch! It sounds like this is the Halloween event we have been wanting for years. I can't wait to get to go.

The thing is that nobody assumes that anything they put in the park is going to be inappropriate for a 14 year old, because it never has been before and it doesn't fit Busch Gardens' image. You don't "take kids in" who are 14 -- they go in alone. Also, the Fiends show runs all day, not just after-hours, so some people aren't happy.

It's a simple matter of what constitutes a reasonable expectation. People who are saying "they have signs" are ignoring this concept. They can have all the signs they want...but if you walked into Castle O'Sullivan and there was an orgy going on, you'd have a WTF reaction. Parents have been sending their kids and teens to Busch Gardens for years, and have a customer relationship with the park. If they see signs for suspect content they think "well, it'll be a little stronger than usual...BUT I KNOW BG AND THEY WILL ONLY ALLOW [X,Y,Z]." I don't find that to be unreasonable for the parents. Like I showed in the example...everyone has expectations that they expect to be met.

It is a fine line, I agree, but having signs does not give the park absolute carte blanche to do whatever they want. They have to stay within the lines of reasonable expectations, and I know that they know that, because they do it (more or less).

Planning to attend HoS next Friday and to make a day of it. Weather forecast looks promising. Any idea what I should expect as far as crowds go?

It's both, in context. Selling beer in restaurants is a different beast all together from sending slutty-costumed shooter girls around. They sell beer at Applebees. They don't have shooter-girls dressed up like naughty cops at Applebees. There's a definite difference. There is also a difference between what a kid can see on TV and what they should see in person.

All I'm saying is that I don't think that it is appropriate for Busch Gardens. What is it that people always say? "If you don't like it, don't go"? So there it is. I'll not go. Not a big deal.

This paragraph sums it up perfectly, IMHO.

This is very well said. Thanks.

I actually had no issues with the shooter girls though. It's all about context. They had cool looking little IV stands with test tube and large syringes. They actually were wearing slightly less skimpy outfits than in the show (trust me, I noticed;) ) And they drew a crowd. People were getting their pics taken, even with the kids, and everybody was just generally positive. I thought it was just kind of cool and fun.

See the problem isn't the outfits or the adult themes or whatever, it's the characters that are grinding against the dancers, and smacking them on the butt, and putting things up their skirts, etc. It's just kind of skeevy and uncomfortable. It turned me off frankly.

One thing my wife pointed out about the show, and I'd be interested if anyone else experiences this, there was very very little applause during the show.

Honestly, I feel like this is going to be one of those things that people go around in circles talking about. I personally don't find an issue with the show at all, of course others do.

I do think the suggestions to move the show to a different venue and/or tone it down during the day are good ones- simply to help give both sides of the issue what they want (taking Sesame Street out of Ireland would be a great way to do this). This would also allow them to introduce another show in Das Festhaus since they are lacking in shows this year.

As far as applause, we actually had several really loud bits applause, especially when Dracula was singing.

The problem with the "reasonable expectations" thing is that they have put on suggestive shows in the past. People are acting like they've been doing Elmo shows in the Festhaus in the past. I also don't think it's beyond reasonable for that kind of content when you can buy those outfits at walmart. It's actually pretty common in theme parks, I don't see why BG has to adhere to any higher standard.

Okay. I get it people don't like the shots or the dancers. I am a big fan of Glee and just watched the Rocky Horror Show episode. Remember this was on National TELEVISION, and the content in that was not any worse than the content in the Fiends show.

I think that statue thing was the lady of the gardens statue.

I thought deadline was the best and 13 was good. That heights room got me good at first. Bitten was the same, and I sort of doubt catacombs was longer than before. Didn't seem much different to me. Fear Fair would have been better in the dark I think.

In Deadline, I think one of the toilets spews some soap out. Totally got on my friends' pants. Nasty looking stuff. haha. The themeing on that house was the best and the actors inside did a pretty decent job.

The nurses selling shots was pretty cool. $6 for a test tube, and $10 for a large syringe. I thought that was cool little touch.

The scarezones were OK. The theming was nice, but the scares were lacking. I also walked through scavengers with no actors at all in it around 830pm. I think they all were hiding from the rain at that point.

I'll come back when there's no rain. I think that will make it a little better.

Oh and for the fiends show that W-O-M-A-N song was pretty good. they got a lot of applause for that.

I don't mean to derail this discussion over jello shots, but I just wanted to share how my HOS night went last night. Will probably have spoilers.

Got to Fear Fair first and it was still light outside, so that kind of killed the experience. I did get extremely uncomfortable in the room where you can't tell what are walls and what are the push away curtains. They did a good job executing that. Was happy to not see the the spinning tunnel back.

Went over to Fiends to see if a miracle happened overnight. It didn't. We went to the 7:30 show and I swear more people were just stuffing their faces than there to actually watch the show. I think somebody had mentioned about the nurses butt's hanging out? I didn't see anything wrong with the bottom half, as it was nothing different than what I used to cheer in in high school. Anyways, show still sucked.

Went by 13, line was too long for me (I hate lines but love theme parks-go figure) so we went to watch MSR. I though it was a little better than last week. It seems that Jaymes and the lead chick are getting more comfortable in their roles, and that reflects in their performance.

Strolled on over to Dead Line to see if the line went down. I must say, the wait time compared to the length of line was amazing. They had a really nice flow going and I commend the whole staff of that house. We had walked by the house earlier and I had to stop and watch the video. Right then, I was hooked. I have never been more nervous about going in a house, but I was so excited to see what the inside looked like after experiencing the entrance. Right off the bat, I swear this will go down as my own most personal epic scare of all HOS history-going through the first hallway with the plastic hanging on either side, out comes a hand, grabs me on the arm and pulls me towards him. Now, I'm not sure if that was supposed to happen..but it did-and it was awesome. I'm not a screamer, I laugh when I get startled in houses, but I screamed my butt off. The teenagers behind me were super freaked out and my brother in front of me who didn't see it happen asked me what my deal was. I almost fell over on the floor.

I must say, after experiencing this house, I have never been more proud of our HOS. This was, dare I say, on or very, very close to HHN level. (SN: I was wearing a HHN shirt and one of the zombies told me to go back to Florida. Nice touch) I actually stopped in the the subway room and just looked around. The bathroom room was great, the graffiti was done well. The only thing I would have stepped up was the makeup. Wasn't convinced. It's a glimpse of what can be and hopefully what's to come. I have no problem with this house being an anchor house for many years.

Now if only we can get that Nevermore house from Tampa to make it's way up here..

Yeah, that's a good tip. Do it after dark. We purposefully saved it until after dark since it was the only outdoor one. I'd say it definitely enhanced the experience.

^Yeah, that's what I had planned on doing Friday (until the park closed)-

Dinnner/Fiends at 4:30, get in line for Bitten
Make my way through Stichin Time/Widow Makers
Do Catacombs/Unleashed
Do 13/*Monster Stomp depending on showtimes/line (I guess jack is back as well, but I've never seen the entire show because it just doesn't interest me that much)
Do Scavengers/go and do Dead Line
End In festa (grin/Fear fair)

Yeah, I started at Bitten, and was going to go there next, but it was still sort of light out, so I did Deadline first, and by the time that was done, it was dark. I'll probably do fear fair again, seeing as it was sort of raining when I was going through, which probably toned down the performance.

It was okay with it because I could actually see the details. I swore one of those chickens in the cages were real and waited a second for it to move. I'd love to be able to walk through each house with the lights on and no scareactors.

Were none of them real? In the dark I honestly thought one was!!

LOL, I swore they were all fake. I could be wrong. I checked them out pretty good though.

Howl-O-Scream was great yet again this year! I definitely think 13: Your Number is Up is the banner haunted house now that the House back where drachenfire is no longer a triple feature.

I came up to Williamsburg for the weekend (got rained out Friday) and experienced Howl-O-Scream Saturday night and can safely say that the catacombs had the longest and by far slowest moving line of the haunted houses. If you have to pick a certain number of houses to go in because you don't have time to do them all I would say skip this one as it was in my opinion the least impressive and thus least worth the long wait.

I was somewhat disappointed with the scare zones compared to last year. Last year the entire park was effectively a scare zone with various creatures jumping out from around corners (LOVED the guys on the steel knee braces sliding out to scare people in Germany by the carousel!). This year the scare zones are compartmentalized which was neat because they had various hiding places in these areas, but unfortunately they didn't really do much "scaring", they just wandered around and picked people at random to follow through the zone.

As many have stated, save the scare zones and fair haunted house for after dark, or at the least go back through scare zones that you have to go through before sun down once it gets dark, and make sure to experience the new haunted houses deadline and 13, they were great!

Just got back from HoS and I'm going to go through the list of everything. There are spoilers which I feel to lazy to spoiler tag right now, so you've been warned.

Dead Line: Best house in the park theming wise, I think it's a crime to not offer a lights on walk through just to be able to see the detail they put into that house. I love the monitors they put up at one part of it as well as the effort they made. You can really see the small things that were put into it. The acting was spotty at best, funny at worst. There's a part where a girl is cutting her wrists (the wrong way even, everybody knows you go across the street for attention and down the road to get somewhere) and she offers you some glass, what does suicide have to do with zombies? Not even the rabies people from 28 days/weeks later (They're alive, they're not zombies) tried to kill themselves.

13: I have mixed feelings about this house. I'd say that the first rooms of the maze were well done, but once you got to the phobias that don't involve people (snakes, spiders, ect), things fell apart. For example, the snake room had hissing, and a random dude eating a human body part. I will also say that the maze was difficult to navigate at times. The very first room had no apparent exit and I ended up looking behind random coverings until it was pointed out to me. There are also places where it gets so dark you don't know where to go or see anything. When this happens, my instinct is to put my arms in front of me to make sure I don't run into anything, but I'm afraid I might grab somebody on accident. Not knowing where to go also backs up the line, which I hate doing. Small bits of darkness is fine as long as you know what direction to head. The acting was on game though, I really like that they had a priest at the end, great touch. I also liked the gore level, very nice change of pace for BG.

Catacombs: This has always been a great house, and they did a good job by making it longer. The actors were totally into it, one at the front did a neat thing by sticking his hand out of the entrance to signal us to come in. No major complaints here.

Bitten: The only thing I noticed that was new was that some of the outfits showed a bit more cleavage than before (not to Nurse level, mind you). This has always been a "meh" house to me and it did not fail to "meh" me this year.

Fear Fair: I feel sad for this house, it has so much potential but it just can't perform if there's no actors. I think the house itself was great in props and design, but with no actors there it just kind of stagnates. The people riding the chickens were cool, I'm glad they returned.

Unleashed: Nothing much to say about this one, werewolves scaring people.

Stichen Time: Once again, I'm glad BG upped the gore this year, the outfits were great.

Widow Makers: This one is broken to me, your supposed to have killer spiders and lumberjacks, but only lumberjacks attack you (one did get me good, no thanks to PageyMoon  ). Fix the theme to make the lumberjacks the central characters instead of the spiders and your golden. I like increased gore, but the amount and location of blood made them look more like butchers than lumberjacks.

Grin and Bare it: This one was actually refreshing to see. What I like about it is that the clowns interact with the guests in ways besides jumping at you, getting in your face, ect. There was one girl who was talking nonsense in a very creepy way that was perfect for the clowns, she needs to be moved to Fear Fair.

Scavengers: These guys were pros, I know all the tricks to avoid being jumped and they still managed to get me, scenery was great too.

Fiends: We all know about this, I'm not going into any detail about it.

MSR: I didn't think it was that bad, the zombie tap dance was great. I will say that the leads can't sing Michael Jackson, they were good up until that point. I will say that I think the sexual content in that show was worse than Fiends, but that will probably cause more debate.

Jack is Back: If any of the shows offended me, it was this one. They played the worse pop music they could find, which was torture on my brain. Well danced for a kid's show though.

Other notes:

Where was The Lady of the Garden?! She was so cool and there's only a statue of her.

The HoS cupcakes were epic, I encourage everybody to get one.

I felt that there was a majority of the park that wasn't decorated that well this year compared to others, maybe that's just me though.

While I appreciate that the Scare Zones are marked well and not as spread out for young kids, they could be bigger. The bridge between Festa and San Marco is not big enough to be a scare zone IMO. It would be really easy to turn a section of Festa into a SZ while giving kids access to the train and kiddy rides.
