So, I saw that the horses had holiday ribbons in their manes, and were posing in front of what looked like a special CT façade.

Was it a "starry night" backdrop, or an actual three-dimensional facade? I haven't been in a week or so, but the backdrop was there before. Something new would be interesting.

Although she new that LNM and the Grimm's Landung bridge are closed; my girlfriend noted that the area past the Clydesdale photo op in the Heatherdowns is rather bare. It's nothing too bad, but it's an observation anyway.

Here's a picture of the backdrop and the carriage that make up the photo op along with a couple of the employees who are dressed up for the part.  After they get the kid(s)/person(s) in place they get the horse (Aiden I think) to smile for them.  It's a real good idea and set up.

Thanks! That is the setup that I was thinking of. I was wondering if maybe they changed it since I was last there. I don't think they have that all through the night however. Don't they stop taking photos with the horses at some point?

Thanks! That is the setup that I was thinking of. I was wondering if maybe they changed it since I was last there. I don't think they have that all through the night however. Don't they stop taking photos with the horses at some point?

I recently learned from a source that Gordon one of the first 2 black Clydesdales brought to the park had to be put down a few months back do to an infection in one of its tendons.  The park had transported him to one of the best equine hospitals in the area and had done surgery to try and treat it but saddly the infection did not respond and they were left with no other choice.

I know of three cases of friends two who lost a horses to it and one who actually has one at the same facility right now being treated for a simular injury. Its not an everyday thing but its also not supper rare. While horses are very tough animals there are several places on the leg where the tendons are close enough to the surface that it doesn't take much to get an injury to them. If a cut goes into the tendon sheath its prone to infection and if an infection starts its very hard to treat in house as there is not much blood flow to it so the both oral and IV antibiotics do little good and the lack of air lets it fester and grow fast. At that point the only option is to open it up and try to clean it out. Not knowing any details of the injury that led to it I can't comment on how it happened in this particular case other then to say that horses are masters at finding things to cut or stab themselves with and thpse kind of injuries are something you can't always find the cause of even after the fact. I once had ine slice a gash in his head that required 15 stitches while in a stall with me about 15 feet away grooming another horse and a carefull search still left me clues as to how it happened. From what I heard the parj really did everything possible when treating it but it really is a hard area to treat an a crap shoot.

Those horses are some great looking animals and remind of the horses we use to have, particularly the one on the left.

Come to think of it, I believe I heard something during Christmas Town about losing one or two, but I'm not 100% sure. I don't know how many team members would willingly give an answer, even if they knew.

Do the animals like the horses at BGW get retired after a tenure at the park? I was just curious if by "Losing" you mean getting retired to a farm somewhere or losing them to the great horsefarm in the sky? Sorry if its confusing didn't quite know how to word it.
