will always have a place in my heart, i remember waiting in line for it opening year with my mom for about two hours. not sad to see it go, but will always have fond memories.
Is this thing being trashed or moved? Could new trains have saved it?
Yeah I have riden three of these and honestly enjoyed all three. I don't know if I either have a magical just right fit or just have somehow accidentally stumbled on to a riding style that just works but I haven't ever had any of the issues so many others complain about.Unpopular opinion, but I thought the '90s Standups were B&M's most intense designs. I guess I found the right way to ride these- they're amongst my favorite coasters, and were a highlight to me at any park that had/has one. I flew out to visit GAdv back in September for Green Lantern after I read about it's removal rumors on this board. It was well worth it (and doubly so, with everything else that's transpired since then). I'm very bummed about losing this one (and again, doubly so now with the Kingda Ka news).
I hope the few Standups we have left manage to stick around- the Surf Coaster is fun, but it's an entirely different thing. With the remaining three all operating under the same umbrella now, I'm sadly not too optimistic.
I know I've said in the past that I don't really recall my Mantis experience, but I sure as hell hope Rougarou is the next coaster to leave Cedar Point. Even Green Lanturd never required me to take a break after riding for the sake of my own skull.I don’t like any of the B&M standups, but Mantis was for me especially awful. It is one of the three worst coaster experiences of my life.
Not sure how the conversion and work done at that point would effect it's service life plus it hasn't been moved before like lantern. If Green Lantern really is at the end of its service life, Rougaro can’t be too far off right?
I'd be down to see Lantern replaced with either a woodie like Bobcat at GE or a new kids area. With Rolling Thunder gone there hasn't really been a good stepping stone coaster that doesn't go upside down. There aren't really any good kids areas in the park either.Very clear to me that they're planning something with the removal of Green Lantern, Twister, and the Parachute Drop. Those 3 rides were likely on the chopping block anyway but they open up a HUGE plot of land together with space for a significant expansion beyond just a coaster. I'm hoping for a whole new area of the park
With all the thrill ride capacity the park just lost, I don't think family rides are a priority right now - unless a whole Boardwalk refresh with multiple rides are coming along with it. Yeah, and I don’t think its gonna be a total lean towards one at the same time. I have ZERO insider info, nor have I ever gone to SFGADV, so my opinion is probably invalid, but with the mentioned problems along with the family coaster boom, id imagine it’d be almost a “back and forth sorta pendulum shift”. So like 2026: Ka replacement, then after that a family coaster and some other general improvements, then after that the next thrill coaster, and so on and so forth.Even with the thrill ride apocalypse happening Great Adventure never really had much that could qualify as an "inbetweener" ride between the kiddie stuff and the big rides. There definitely is a lot of room for the park to address both in the coming years.
