Imagine if they needed some of the space for a launch spike on Kingda Ka 2. It would be interesting if Six Flags signed a contract with Intamin before the merger was completed.

I heard there’s a rumor Green Lantern may be closing (moving or demolished) after this season. I have no idea how true this is but it wouldn’t come as a total shock since it has fairly low ridership.
Sigh..
So the time has come I've also heard. Green Lantern has allegedly reached the end of its service life sadly. It's by far my favorite B&M of all time with insane positive g force and ranks even within my top 20 coasters. But a important fact to know is green lantern is now nearly 30 years old. If the end truly is soon, I'm genuinely saddened because I love this ride. When the ride does eventually close, no matter how far in the future or how close it is, I will be there for the final day and ride only GL the entire day.

sorry for one of my yaps, i really love that ride

Yeah, I want to echo the Green Lantern love. I know many people hate it and I totally get where they're coming from. I have a real soft spot for it though. Never have I ridden a coaster where you FEEL the positive Gs as much as you do on Green Lantern. It honestly feels like they found the limit for a stand-up and that limit is unlikely to be pushed any further. There is something special about rides like that.

Disclaimer: I also have a personal twinge of nostalgia for Green Lantern as I remember standing under it as a young kid while it was still Chang at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom. I just wasn't tall enough to ride, but the coaster always loomed large in my memory. It wasn't until many years later that I finally got to ride it in New Jersey. I honestly expected it to suck, but was very pleasantly surprised.

Anyway, yeah, I won't be surprised if Cedar Fair decides it's just about time to pull the plug. It's almost certainly understandable. That said, I would be sad to see it go.

Hey, if it means that the Skyride is spared but GL goes, I’ll take that.

GL wasn’t a bad ride, especially if you got the Magic Mountain Riddler train, but it would sort of make sense to demolish it and the Parachute tower at the same time I guess…

This may actually be my 3rd favorite ride in the park. One of my all time favorite B&M’s. It just feels powerful, fast, and all of my rides have been quite smooth.

One of the last good standups. Would be a shame. One of those rides I would travel to for a last ride opportunity for sure if they announced a closure.

I think it would be hilarious if Great Adventure put surf coaster trains on it, repainted the entire ride and station, rethemed it, and marketed it as a brand new attraction.

I like this, especially as it's at a park that already had a floorless (the original to boot) so it couldn't have been converted like Apocalypse -> Firebird.

I have stated my opinion of stand up coasters in the past. I will allow the subsequent gif to illustrate additional feelings and withhold further comment.

Loved GL when I was at GADv last. Intense to me, but felt slightly less of an ass-kick than the original Mantis (pre trim-brake days).
Still sad if it goes. This and Scorpion would be a sad one-two punch to coaster lovers.

I would not be upset at all by this. Send it somewhere else with floorless trains, and it’s a small park’s star attraction. As it stands, it’s one of my least favorite coasters I’ve ever been on, and a floorless conversion would be redundant with Medusa in the same park.

I've never ridden this because I was afraid of the risk of, let's say, not getting the restraints set up properly. Now I guess I need to make sure I get over that worry and ride it before it's gone.

If there's even the slightest hint of this being done for a Ka spike, I will chain myself to the eastern edge of the demolition/removal site until an alternative use for the space is proposed and agreed upon.

Really though, I think all of the comments in this thread so far are a good summary of widespread opinion on this coaster in general - either revered and enjoyed, or totally reviled. In-park word of mouth generally does it very few favors, but at the same time, I legitimately can't remember the last time I went on this as a walk-on. The line almost always snakes up to its first straightaway (if not farther) when I visit.

For the revere/revile debate, I'm going to place myself in the former camp - I really enjoy Green Lantern for what it is. The restraint does take some getting used to and can certainly be painful if improperly placed. After getting used to it, I've been fortunate enough to be able to consistently find an adjustment that lets me dedicate my energy to just appreciating the fantastic layout and (given its age) smoothness of the ride.

This is also, IMO, one of the more carefully themed attractions in the park. Not only is it a nice eye-catcher from the parking lot, but the queue is pretty enjoyable to navigate, with multiple storyboard signs, a fighter jet, and plenty of open space to observe the coaster train twisting around the track above you. Even though it's just a catchphrase of the Green Lantern oath, hearing audio during the lift hill ascension adds to the experience too.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record to the GAH folks here, this ride has had my favorite attraction sign in the park for quite some time. Green Lantern's ring firing out a coaster track shaped beam will always look cool to me.

For those that enjoyed this ride. I understand the bummer/sting of the loss, don't let those of us who dislike it subtract from your enjoyment and memories of these rides. Really for stand up coasters it all comes down to how well your body size and dimensions handle the attraction. I'm tall, broad shouldered, male, in my 30s, and heavier, so I am not one of those folks unfortunately just getting into the seat is unpleasant for me. I hope Pipeline gives me an enjoyable stand up experience whenever I get back to SWO.

I had heard so many bad things about GL that my buddy and I only got in line a few years ago to check it off the list and then walk away.

But we both came off the ride saying the same thing: ton of fun, no issues at all, and a solid part of the lineup at GAdv.

Experiences are so polarizing with this thing, and with standups in general. For my part anyway, I will really miss GL if it leaves. The degree to which its departure would sting depends on what would take that space in its absence. Hmm.

I do wonder if they'll keep the F-104 Starfighter around. GL's queue is pretty disappointing overall (thanks Scream Machine), but the jet is cool.
