Those blue lights are the worst. I hate walking through Scotland, just because I can't get through without getting a headache. ): They're pretty, but they mess with my eyes a lot.

I wish there was maybe a lighter blue light they could use, something that isn't so high up on the wave length frequency. ):

Went to the park today and noticed a ton of lights have gone up all over the park. Almost like they are doing that before any real HOS setup begins.

I've noticed that they leave many lights up year round to save setup/breakdown time

Forget Christmas Town, they're probably setting up for Illuminights for next year!

Very minor changes to the CT site. I've been checking from time to time, waiting for them to take EITA down from the "rides" section, and they just took down the whole tab of "rides." At least we know somebody from BG is at least thinking about CT and updating the site, amidst all this HOS buzz.

I'd like to see Oktoberfest become the North Pole. Hear me out.

Approaching Das Festhaus feels more like reaching a destination whereas, in Rhinefeld, you're just passing through. I'd put the physical pole where the maypole pad is, and have Das Festhaus be the light show, like Crown Colony House is in BGT. Then, also like BGT, Santa's house could be in an enclosed picnic pavilion (I know it doesn't sound impressive, but seriously - it was amazing).

Normally, I'd say having a traditional German Christkindlesmarkt in Oktoberfest would take precedence... but as the park has already decided not to work with local vendors this year, I see no conflict.

Crown Colony House Light Show

Visiting Santa

EDIT: This would also eliminate having to screw around with (and do further damage to) the Rhinefeld square clock...

Haberdasher1973, I think that is a fantastic idea. I loved the CC light show, and the tree in front of the festhaus can be very annoying at times while watching the show. I think the tree is too much. The only thing I would change is having Santa's Workshop so hidden. I love how you can walk up to the window and wave to Santa and watch his talk to the children. They should set him up somewhere where he is able to be seen. Other than that, I think it is a great idea. :)

I agree that sounds much better. I often thought it was odd how you passed by Santa so fast.

They are not having the market this year? Is anything replacing it? That's a shame.

I'm on the mailing list for Wild Heaven Farm (a vendor since CT's first year), and I received the following in an email dated August 1:

Sad that there is no market this year. In 2009 or 2010, there was a magic vendor and I got one of my best and favorite tricks. I was sad to not see him the following year and last year. The market, to me, brought a "christmasy" feel into the air. What's better than going to a beautiful Christmas Event in the world's most beautiful theme park and shopping for christmas gifts? :)

By the way, not to get off topic, but have they done the NAPHA survey yet? Usually it is out by now, but it's not. Huh, I wonder why.

Side acts for 2013 may have been cut. New France duo, New France solo, brass band, Ireland trio, bagpiper, and Carolers may all be gone. The big show Miracles may be gone too. Sesame Xmas show is gone.

So if all of ^this turns out to be gone in addition to the traditional German Christkindlesmarkt, what exactly are we paying for - what will make this worthy of being a hard-ticket event?

OK. This is me trying to be serious. (I seem to be having trouble today.)

What is it that y'all go to CT for? I see a lot of discussion about the shows, which I admit are a significant part of the event. But for me at least, CT isn't really about the specific activities.

I went to F&WF because I am a foodie and I was curious. I go to HOS every year, because I love the houses. But at CT, I am really just looking for general atmosphere.

I'm (mostly) happy to stroll around with interesting hot chocolate and admire the park. In fact, BGT wasn't as good at BGW for me for just that reason. Tampa is still open during the day as a normal park, and maybe that is why? I just know that there were just a few specific places to go for CT stuff, and everywhere else just felt like a normal day. (OMG, I am I talking about theming?)

I'm not even sure I would mind if they didn't bring in the penguins, because I have never really convinced that those penguins are comfortable and happy. OK. I take that back; don't mess with my penguins.

Maybe it is because DC isn't really great for Christmas light touring, and it really never feels very festive to me up here. But CT has become for me the place I can go and feel like I am immersed in Chrismas-y-ness.

So, from my perspective, as long as I get an overall holiday atmosphere, I am happy to buy a ticket.

(This is me NOT adding a picture from a Doctor Who Christmas Special.)
