Bridge Replacement Between Heatherdowns & Rhinefeld

Bridge is really getting ripped up now...

I assume that the demolition is starting on the Rhineland side and working their way back to the Loch Ness side is due to a service road near the Loch Ness Station? Where a truck could get close enough to pick-up the bridge debris and haul it out in that direction?

Otherwise, I'd hate to be the folks lugging all the bridge debris up the hill! :s

They have started driving in piles as well. There is one in the last pic of CK first set and three more in the last pic in CK's second set.

Those photos are beautiful CK!

I must say however, that I felt a twinge of sadness looking at them. Being that I have only sen this from the San Marco bridge- I felt a disconnect from the demolition.

Now, seeing these, it seems real and tangible. I suppose I am thinking of how many times I have stepped on those wooden planks in my life and now I know they are all heading to the rubbish bin.

TO BUSCH GARDENS WILLIAMSBURG: PLEASE by all means save and reuse the Grimm's Landing wooden sign. I beg you. That is a perfect example of the kind of details that should be kept!

I feel what you are saying Nora. I have mixed feelings on this demolition/new bridge as well. All good things...


Anyway, not a HUGE update, but I noticed something yesterday...

Also- look at Mr. pelican- he has been moved way out; almost to the edge of the Rhine River!

Edit: No wait- that is just another post with a pelican. On the other two images he is still in the same place. Although if the bump outs are located there- I wonder if they plan on bringing the water fountain back- maybe possible "fountains" Hmmmm....

The park posted a picture on its Instagram of the Rhine with the snow around it. Not only does it show the Rhine with snow, it shows the construction of the new Rhine River Bridge replacement, you can see there is a lot of progress is being made on the Bridge! Check the picture out here!

That is exactly why it is still a good thing to keep up with their Facebook page every now and then, even if they don't have the best marketing department.

The new bridge is very nice, and imo a pretty big improvement over the original. It's all wood like before, but much wider, and the observation areas are a nice touch.

Also, it's barely raised above the landing. Really just a few inches of ramp.

Staining and painting should come later. Keep in mind the Pompeii bridge didn't get painted or stained for a month or so after they opened. I do think it will come but in due time.

For the record, I think it is just the same width as the previous bridge. The only reason there is more space is one the extra railings are not there anymore, which opens it up a lot, plus the viewing areas just add so much more.

I hope you are right. It looks a bit raw right now, and the contrast with the plastic cover highlights the difference even more.

Something I forgot last night: did anyone else notice that the Rhine looked a bit dry and sluggish, especially over near the River Cruise? I was a bit surprised, given all of the precipitation this winter, but maybe they need to keep it low to work on the bridge?

It was full of dead leaves over by Verbolten, I've never seen it that dirty during the main season.
