The tunnel in its full length is still there. At least the inside part. I guess the best way to explain its current state is if you took your house and took the entire roof and the trusses off but from the living room the cieling sheetrock still looked like normal.

So yesterday I saw there are trees in front of Volcano's old queue. Were those always there or did they just get planted? I can't remember but it seemed off to me.

My apologies to @futureshock about the tunnel. I’m glad it’s still there and I hope it stays. It doesn’t have to be related to the mountain and could rather simply serve as a cave, a unique feature that adds to the landscape. I also love how the tunnel contributes to the seclusion of Avalanche’s interior plaza.

Edit: On second thought, the tunnel might not be safe after all. The empty holes where lights were, that @bill s mentioned had lights in them last weekend. The park seemed to have added a new set of lights along the side wall with temporary wiring. Maybe the electric source was lost with the mountain’s demolition? Regardless, I wonder if they’re strippig the light fixtures out to prepare for demolishing the tunnel. I hope not.

Here at Kings Dominion and noticed that the Volcano sign (with ride stats) is still in the queue station. Sorry for the horrible pic. Isn't it curious that they are keeping that sign around, along with the queue structure?

My guess would be that they want to preserve it for something. Maybe just to display somewhere but it being an iconic ride they might make a memorial or something at the park.

I went on the 3rd. I have no idea why everyone thinks it’s a small space. You can easily go behind Avalanche and even the clearing area is sizable.

That first picture I thought was the San Marco fence for some reason. I didn't think "why is it brown?" Or "this is a KD thread."

All that went through my mind was "I see mmxx is a toboggan ride"
