Is verbolten really worth waiting in the long lines this weekend? Or should I hold off a bit untill things cool down?

It's always dangerous to answer such a subjective opinion for someone else, but for me, I'd say it is worth the wait to go ahead and start riding now. I don't regret one minute of my hour+ wait and if I hadn't gotten to ride last Saturday I would probably be queueing up this weekend -- and I may do it anyway!

But obviously only you can decide for yourself. I found the time in the line went fast, everyone was chatting amongst themselves, with those who had already ridden sharing their impressions, and the staff were all enthusiastic and happy -- all in all it was fun to be part of the excitement of being among the first riders. As always YMMV.

Thanks! And I really hope their isn't 3+ hour lines this weekend. And were they quick with the loading on and off the trains? Do they use all the trains? Or just like 2?

Was lucky enough to get a last minute invite to Media Day yesterday. After 15 rides on Verbolten, my last one with Larry Giles and Carl Lum I can honestly say, BGW has a winner on their hands. It will be a great family coaster at one of the best amusement parks for families in the country (if not the world).

They were only running two trains yesterday, the red train which was loaded with all the gear and the green train, which they eventually ran empty (not sure why, they said it was to keep the red train filled.) The first time I rode, was definitely the best, but because each ride is different, I didn't get bored. Things I liked, the first launch and helix in the event building. The free fall drop and the drop over the Rhine. The theming inside the event building is well done and unique. The fact that there are three different themes is cool as well. So while you may get the wolves four times in a row like I did, you also might get something different each time you ride. The queue, as others have said, is also very well done so when the lines are very long and moving slow, you will have plenty to look at.

Things I didn't like, there are two times in the event building were you are stopped in complete darkness for what seems too long. I suppose one of these stops is to set up loading into the free fall drop. The bridge doesn't look old and ricketedy when you up there and it was difficult to hear the sound effects of the creaking bridge up there. The head rests of the seats have no padding, so it hurts when your head slams into the head rests after the launches and can be headache inducing.

Other than that, its a great ride. Families will love it (although it may be too intense for younger kids) and I am sure there will be some long lines this summer. However, if you a looking for extreme thrill coaster this is not your ride.

On a side note, I talked with a BGW official who indicated they can change the themes in the event building relatively easily. So for Howl-O-Scream there will be a different theme. That is definitely a cool feature of this coaster.

That is very awsome! I wonder what kind of theme they would use for howl-o-scream??

RE: Verbolten

Well I must say, Busch certainly know show to throw a party! The VIP party (just left 5 minutes ago) was wonderful. I got in 26 rides in the 4 hours, and waited maybe 2 trains max. So here are some comments I hope are a little different. :)
1. I got some great air time right after the first launch, especially in the back with a well placed harness.
2. The helix is very powerful, also increasing in force towards the back I the train. I loved this part!
3. The sets are massive! Watching video and reading reviews, I was expecting multiple small cut outs. The pieces are really more like sets spanning the building, but only viewable at certain points. You can also see more from the left side off the train, and almost have to look backwards entering the mcbr to view the "moon".
4. The wolf scene was my favorite, in addition to the sentimental value, the room is much darker at the drop track. This provides for a more convincing and scary drop.
5. The spirit scene is kind of lame from the back of the train. The sound is good, but the visual is right in front of the train.
6. The only time my head was hurt was after the drop track. Due to the little hill into the launch, your head rocks forward. Then you launch so fast that your head snaps back into the not so padded head rest; however, after riding twice I mastered the bracing technique.
7. If I was little, I think I would be outright terrified I the event building. Not knowing it was coming and the overall blackness would scare me more then height if I was about 8, so I hope no kids are scarred for life from Verbolten.
8. When no one is in line for your row, they only allow one re-ride. So after your second ride they made you get off and walk back around to "restore blood flow". This was not just one operator's policy, but seemed to be standard.
9. The freefall drop isn't that long, but if you think about it as ejector air instead of floater air, it's more fun.
10. The blue train was the only one with working headlights, and they did go off in the event building.
11. I asked a cast member when they thought they would begin 5 train operation, I thought it was a clever way around the direct yellow train question. He said he did not know, and pointed out how efficient 4 train operation was, as if the fifth would not help. Boo. The yellow train was in the same old spot.
12. I can also confirm the waterfall is back. :)

Over all, I was so impressed by the event and Verbolten. They even had Mach Tower running, and I got 3 consecutive rides without getting up. Verbolten is a wonderful ride; it's just plain fun! It's a perfect addition for the park and sure to be a hit for awhile to come. :)

RE: Verbolten

I was at the VIP event also and rode Verbolten about 20 times the comment above about scaring kids has already happened for my 7 year old last week and she will not even step foot into Busch Gardens right now. That ride is so awesome and today was my first time ever getting on Mach Tower. So :D

RE: Verbolten

When I was there, Brian Morrow was talking to a small group and said with a smile that, "We will have to come back for Verbolten during Howl-O-Scream." He said the whole ride changes, and Gerta goes a bit overboard with the decorations. Interestingly, he also said they originally wanted to make it so that you could choose the color of your train, but the station would have been too long.

I agree the sets are amazing, which is why I don't think that being stopped matters, because every time you are, something else amazing lights up. And I also agree that I think the ride would freak out littler kids, which I why I don't exactly know where to classify it. I asked my friend who falls more into the GP category (I'm in the process of converting her), and she said it isn't that intense but she wouldn't have wanted to ride it as one of her first. I think my sister who is 12 will be a bit wary about riding it, because, I mean, it does launch into a dark building from which muffled, booming sound effects will be emanating.

But that said, I think the ride is just all-around fun, and really re-rideable. I experienced all the settings (though I got thunderstorm like 5 times.) Spirit sounds the best, but it kind of lame not in the front. Wolf I only got on the train with the camera equipment and lights so I didn't get the full effect. I wish thunderstorm incorporated more strobe lighting and not just the flashing fluorescents, which are cool but don't evoke lightning as well as strobes.

RE: Verbolten

Storm is designed to reflect lightning lighting up your surroundings. That is achieved by lighting your surroundings. It was pulled off well not being the standard strobe gimmick.

RE: Verbolten

I concur that the VIP event was absolutely incredible. It was totally different than what I was expecting (In a good way). So much free stuff. More details and probably pictures later. I need to sleep.

RE: Verbolten

Wow. I'm a bigger geek than I gave myself credit for. Woke up about an hour ago, started thinking of the events of the day to come - and now can't fall back to sleep... Sweet.

Welcome to the party BuschGardener. Can't fall back asleep no matter what I try.

It anyone wants to meet-up with me and a few others from the site, PM or @reply/DM @The_Swiftman on Twitter if you wish.

I have the new camera ready to go again today. Expect some more awesome pictures and if you're lucky, video too. ;) Lastly, I'll probably do most of my tweeting from @BGWFans today. If you're not off to the park, you can follow along there.

ugh, have to work first, hoping to get up there to get a couple rides this evening.
Let us know what time they cut the line off this evening, since the park closes at 8pm? Sometimes they will close "cap" the line early due to the long lines so that the ride employees can go home on time. This info will help me plan my Sunday afternoon at the park riding on this cool ride.

Edit: I Changed the the time from 9pm to 8pm since other members found my mistake.
