That's the fourth reference the park has made to Hurler since their teasers began (Chad made two separate remarks about the coaster in his video). I no longer think this is misdirection- I'm putting my money on a Hurler transformation being project 2017.

But then again... why spend over two weeks teasing a simple re-track? Could something more than a standard renovation be involved? Hmmm...

Obviously, my big fanboy dream is RMC, but that might be a little too far out there.

EDIT: Here's another one!

I agree with Joe.

Here's my thing with Hurler. They wouldn't be teasing it so much if they removed it. Regardless of how shitty it is, it would've had a formal...ish farewell. Like Shockwave.

So I think we're looking at a treatment of the ride in one form or another. Whether that be RMC (hopefully) or GCI.

Plus this could also be a "checkmate" in a way to Busch Gardens. They get a GCI, KD could get an RMC...

If they put the RMC on Hurler, they should combine it with Grizzly to make one giant coaster. Even though Grizzly is my favorite coaster there, I would be ok with it ;)

For me this is one of the most interesting potential situations from a 3rd person industry-observer position. Rarely have BGW and KD added coasters in the same year... Let alone coasters of a similar type.

Lets say KD gets Hurler RMCed next year. VA has a new GCI family coaster and a high-octane RMC conversion project opening next year. Are they different enough to not cut into the success of one another? Does InvadR unavoidably loose momentum to the bigger, badder option down the street? The people looking for a family coaster are certainly still going to BGW for InvadR, but InvadR was looking at also having all the rest of the pie as well. Teenagers and adults without kids all had their sights set on InvadR simply because they like new coasters. If the vocal teenager-and-older market is lost to KD, what does that do to InvadR's momentum?

On the flip-side, this just looks like it would be a win-win for KD. They would be able to detonate the news like a ton of dynamite and totally nuke the small bit of InvadR hype that exists straight out of orbit. An RMC conversion of Hurler would be unlike anything this market has ever seen. The impact would be monumental. Moreover, KD would suddenly be seen as the innovators in the market again. I feel like KD's reputation has fallen off the wagon a bit with the GP lately—especially since BGW has added three coasters in the same window of time that Kings Dominion has closed two. This is a chance for KD to aggressively grab the spotlight and really make a huge splash in the region again.

For the KD staff reading this: Please, please take the opportunity in 2017 and blow the collective minds of the people in the Mid-Atlantic. We've been left without anything exciting for far too long. It's time for an attraction we can get seriously hyped up about.

In other news, I'm pretty much fully aboard the #KDProject2017 #HypeTrain at this point. Make us proud KD!

Wouldn't be surprised if we get a flat ride package and a complete revitalization of that section of the park. Much like BGW did with Oktoberfest.

But, the fanboy inside of me is praying for an RMC.

Long time lurker, first time poster here...
Unfortunately, based on my discussions with some KD suits this past weekend, I don't think Hurler will be RMC'ed in 2017.  This is supported by KD's tweets and instagram posts. A tweet on 8/11/16 says, "Things aren't always what they seem," and the picture in the Instragram post seems to suggest a family ride. What was suggested by one of the park suits I spoke with was a revitalization of the area by Juke Box Diner and a couple of new and unique family flats with promises of bigger thrills in 2018 and beyond!  That would suggest removal of Hurler in the off season.

Also, correct if I am wrong, but KD never gets a new coaster the same year BGW does.  For that matter, they never get a new coaster the same year KI does to avoid GP confusion.  Hope I am wrong, but history suggests otherwise.

Glissade opened the year Rebel Yell and Galixi opened. Wild Maus opened the year Flight Of Fear was built.

Those are poor comparisons.

When Glissade and Rebel Yell opened, both parks were still in their infancy and weren't engaged in any coaster battle. They were just trying to grow.

As far as the "Wild Izzy" opening the same year as FoF, Anheuser-Busch was one of the major 1996 Olympic sponsors and the coaster was promoted as such. They weren't trying to make a little family mouse coaster go head-to-head with a high-speed thrill ride in FoF, especially when they had plans to debut the biggest B&M invert on the planet the following year.

If KD is removing Hurler and transforming the whole area, I think the teasing fits. Some teasing was done before the announced that they were transforming the kids area to Planet Snoopy a few years back. I would love to see a new coaster or Hurler RMC'ed, just not convinced its going to happen for 2017.

I would imagine that whatever happens to hurler and the surrounding area, the maintenance building that will be housing the new maze will stay. The Facebook spewing on this Hurler debacle is quite humorous.

My guess scenarios are as follows:

  1. Hurler gets a makeover of some sort. To what extent and by whom ??? Possible flat ride addition and/or Dark attraction upgrade to Action Theater (either CGA's version or Carowind's version).
  2. Hurler is removed and a flat ride package takes up the space it occupied. Possible Dark attraction upgrade to Action Theater (either CGA's Version or Carowind's version).
  3. Some "Dark horse" possibilities. These would not be considered the main 2017 attraction. Carousel restoration is completed and the band organ is restored and plays. A couple new rides for Planet Snoopy. There is space to add at least 2 small to medium kiddie rides to that area.

On a side note, has no one noticed the lack of creativity and blatant stealing of BGW project announcement style? I'm sure you all have. Guess it's the new marketing style.

The person running Kings Dominion's marketing department was one of the top people inside of BGW's marketing department just a couple years ago.

Also, to be honest, I'm not seeing anything revolutionary here...? Someone looking at a cryptic pile of site plans is just about the oldest form of video teaser there is in the industry.

Appears most of the CF parks with the exception of Michigan's Adventure and Canada's Wonderland have made their announcements. Most flats. Which I might add are quality investments by CF across the board.

Assuming CF doesn't jip us and make Mystic Timbers the only coaster investment across the board I think we're slated for a new coaster.

I know it's still all speculation at this point, but the odds are increasing...

So for anyone who hasn't heard, Cedar Fair just announced the closure of one of their water parks in Ohio. What I'm about to say may be a bit of a stretch, but hear me out...

What better time to announce negative news that will adversely affect the company's stock than on a Friday night before the chain's highlight announcement for 2017? Just sayin' it makes a whole lot of sense...

Companies often time announcements that will negatively impact stock value to pair up with big positive announcements about the company. The hope is that the big, new, shiny, positive news will overshadow the negative news that came before it for investors. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see this exact technique being employed right this moment.

If this is what Cedar Fair is doing, tomorrow should, theoretically, bring news larger than Mystic Timbers (otherwise that would have been used as "cover").

Again, I'm not saying this is happening, but I swear the stars are aligning. Between this, the lack of a major announcement across the rest of the chain, this looking like it will be the only big, public-facing announcement event in the chain, and a few other things, I'd say there is a lot of circumstantial evidence to suggest tomorrow may be very interesting.
