Carowinds kinda has that look with intimidator and Fury but they aren't floorless. I think it would look fine if it didn't cross paths with dominator. Like maybe an entrance from the other side of the park or just go along that exit road in the parking lot.

Yea I agree with your statement! The path they showed in the video that we are debating was one that crossed in front of dominator, which was my main point of argument. If they crossed over each other it would look pretty bad IMO.

I like the idea of a main entrance coaster like Cedar Fair has been doing recently. But it does seem like a lot of speculation at this point. I was mainly excited about the possibility of Shockwave finally getting removed.

Once again, that's doubtful. It isnt expensive to maintain, and anything replacing it would have to be small anyways. Also I've heard there are TONs of spare parts for it. I highly doubt shockwave leaving.

The only attractions I could see them removing for a coaster are Blue Ridge Tollway, Boo Blasters, and Hurler. And to be honest, do they need another coaster right now? I remember they were talking awhile back that Cedar Fair wants to do more Dark Rides. Maybe that's what we will get instead.

As I have posted in potential future attractions threads, it certainly is fun to speculate on what might be coming. But, some folks are so desperate for information, they will read/look at anything and point to it as fact.

It is very rare for a fan site to get "official" park information on a new/upcoming attraction before the public does, by way of an official park announcement. There are a couple exceptions and those fan sites keep the confidentiality of that information. Course, there are a couple sites that might get "insider" information that proves true. ;)

But, trying to derive accurate future attraction information from a web site background or another fan site speculation video, is about as factual as me reading tea leaves at the bottom of my tea cup. OMG! Doesn't those tea leaves have the shape of a hyper lift hill! We are getting a hyper coaster for 2016/2017!

As far as speculation goes, I would like to see the next coaster be located in the western part of the park. Somewhere bounded by center street to the east, Hurler to the south, Dino's Alive / WWC to the west and Action theater to the north. I just feel the existing coasters are too heavily weighted toward the east side of the park. It would bring more folks through the western side of the park (helps shops, restaurants, games, etc). Having a new coaster in Old VA would not mean the potential removal of any other existing attraction either. If you really think about it, most of the attractions in Old VA are ground level (Antique Cars, White Water Canyon, Dino's Alive, even most of the log flume is on the ground and the final drop on it is only 40-50 feet tall). The only attraction there over 50 feet is Grizzly.

What type of coaster? I think it would be steel. Ride configuration/size? (Wing, suspended, hyper, ???, who knows). It will be what Cedar Fair and Kings Dominion feels best serves the market the park caters to (and brings them income). It does not matter if the the park already has 15 of those types of coasters or so and so down the road has a dozen. It is what they feel will best serve Kings Dominion.

As far as other speculation, Joe's thoughts on a dark ride using the action theater or using its site is reasonable. Cedar Fair wants to bring "Amusement Dark" attractions to most of the parks in the chain. The LA Times article, interviewing Matt Quimet last month, had him stating that. But, Cedar Fair was not going to put dark rides in all the parks within a very short time frame. The article stated that nothing was currently in the pipeline, so it appears that none of the Cedar Fair parks are to get a dark ride for 2016. What I thought was exciting was Matt looking into partnering with Gardner-Holt in future dark ride projects. Heck, even TrioTech was mentioning what they learned from "Guardian" and how they improved the atmosphere/sets in the "Voyage to the Iron Reef" attraction at Knott's. They even talked about how the projection technology had improved since "Guardian" was built and they were using that new tech at Knott's.
Can you imagine if KD got a dark ride 2-3 years down the road with Gardner-Holt involved and the technological improvements to Trio-Tech's systems? :O

Anyway, back to coaster speculation. I think the other fan site rumor that Shockwave is on the chopping block is reasonable. Kings Island and Canada's Wonderland has removed their Togo standup coasters within the last 2-3 seasons. When two parks, in the same park chain, take out the same attraction within a very short time period, I think the writing is on the wall for this ride. Whether or not it will be gone for 2016 is speculation.

Though I agree with everyone's speculation that Shockwave is on its way out the door; it has a rather small foot print. If it's removed I wouldn't expect anything MASSIVE without a mass amount of land clearing around the area. Which wouldn't really be doing the park any good considering it's basically a parking lot already.

So far it doesn't look like kd will be getting a coaster in 2016(but they still could).  If a coaster isn't coming next year would Kings dominion even get anything?  All kings dominion has gotten for their 40th anniversary is fixing up and a water park addition.  I agree that making everything look better is good but this water park addition still won't make me go to that part of the park a lot.  Sure everyone is going to ride it at least once but kings dominion really needs an addition to drive guests in.  I could ask any of my friends who have passes if kings dominion was getting something this year and they would say no.  People may have a pleasant surprise this summer but it won't be driving them back.

I live 5 and a half hours from carowinds and I want to drive down there again just to ride Fury 325.  Kings dominion needs another coaster that did what Intimidator 305 did.  Maybe not as big but something that is a stick out attraction people will enjoy.

I expect Kings Dominion's next coaster to be no larger than Banshee at Kings Island. No matter what type of coaster they install next, it likely won't have the impact and international hype that Intimidator 305 did.

Their next coaster investment will serve as a way to get the regional audience's attention of a new coaster and hopefully bring in coaster enthusiasts along the east coast.

Unfortunately with Carowinds in the works towards being the flagship park of the south-east, don't be surprised if KD is looked over for the next few years. Rumors are already swearling about CP's next coaster which will most likely be Cedar Fair's next big investment; and if its any consolation Carowinds is rumored to get a water park expansion.

Let's just hope KD doesn't suffer the same fate as Dorney, or Great America in California.

Those are some morbid thoughts John! I left Caro thinking that CF may have made a mistake choosing to invest so much into them. I know I am just one person, but my wife felt the exact same way, so there is now two of us who feel that way. Makes me wonder how many other northern people felt the same way after visiting Caro. It's not all about rides for us though. I truly believe that what you speak of would not happen to KD. They have BGW down the road to keep them on their toes with park beauty, and from what I've seen unfolding in the last 4 years, they are putting their money right where it needs to go. Not into new 'mediocre' rides like ol' Tempasta.

Well that's what I'm getting at. I'm not saying all progress on improving the park will come to a stop, but that investments are going towards other things. Such as landscaping. By the way, I have no problem with that.:)

Assuming CP (new dive machine) and CW (rumored project Ziz roller coaster) are the two "big" additions, chance are KD will probably get the third project as long as things work out right.

- Hopefully KD doesn't get the shaft this time. We're overdue for a new major ride and with Busch getting a new toy, I think its about time KD follows suit.

Im going to call it now, an exact copy of Apollos chariot except more purple and less shakiness :p . Or maybe we will see a invert, since the one they have is fairly different and low capacity.
