As I have posted in potential future attractions threads, it certainly is fun to speculate on what might be coming. But, some folks are so desperate for information, they will read/look at anything and point to it as fact.
It is very rare for a fan site to get "official" park information on a new/upcoming attraction before the public does, by way of an official park announcement. There are a couple exceptions and those fan sites keep the confidentiality of that information. Course, there are a couple sites that might get "insider" information that proves true.
But, trying to derive accurate future attraction information from a web site background or another fan site speculation video, is about as factual as me reading tea leaves at the bottom of my tea cup. OMG! Doesn't those tea leaves have the shape of a hyper lift hill! We are getting a hyper coaster for 2016/2017!
As far as speculation goes, I would like to see the next coaster be located in the western part of the park. Somewhere bounded by center street to the east, Hurler to the south, Dino's Alive / WWC to the west and Action theater to the north. I just feel the existing coasters are too heavily weighted toward the east side of the park. It would bring more folks through the western side of the park (helps shops, restaurants, games, etc). Having a new coaster in Old VA would not mean the potential removal of any other existing attraction either. If you really think about it, most of the attractions in Old VA are ground level (Antique Cars, White Water Canyon, Dino's Alive, even most of the log flume is on the ground and the final drop on it is only 40-50 feet tall). The only attraction there over 50 feet is Grizzly.
What type of coaster? I think it would be steel. Ride configuration/size? (Wing, suspended, hyper, ???, who knows). It will be what Cedar Fair and Kings Dominion feels best serves the market the park caters to (and brings them income). It does not matter if the the park already has 15 of those types of coasters or so and so down the road has a dozen. It is what they feel will best serve Kings Dominion.
As far as other speculation, Joe's thoughts on a dark ride using the action theater or using its site is reasonable. Cedar Fair wants to bring "Amusement Dark" attractions to most of the parks in the chain. The LA Times article, interviewing Matt Quimet last month, had him stating that. But, Cedar Fair was not going to put dark rides in all the parks within a very short time frame. The article stated that nothing was currently in the pipeline, so it appears that none of the Cedar Fair parks are to get a dark ride for 2016. What I thought was exciting was Matt looking into partnering with Gardner-Holt in future dark ride projects. Heck, even TrioTech was mentioning what they learned from "Guardian" and how they improved the atmosphere/sets in the "Voyage to the Iron Reef" attraction at Knott's. They even talked about how the projection technology had improved since "Guardian" was built and they were using that new tech at Knott's.
Can you imagine if KD got a dark ride 2-3 years down the road with Gardner-Holt involved and the technological improvements to Trio-Tech's systems? :O
Anyway, back to coaster speculation. I think the other fan site rumor that Shockwave is on the chopping block is reasonable. Kings Island and Canada's Wonderland has removed their Togo standup coasters within the last 2-3 seasons. When two parks, in the same park chain, take out the same attraction within a very short time period, I think the writing is on the wall for this ride. Whether or not it will be gone for 2016 is speculation.
