RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

I've looked into it and from what I can tell it isn't a simple permissions issue this time. :-/ I'm trying to figure it out though.

Also, park-specific site icons have been added to the header with a fancy animation.

This is really nice and amazing. I definitely love these additions. I was freaking out when I first started see the forums all messed up and after a few moments refreshed to find things back in order and the new icons up. They add a nice touch to the top of the forums, making things more customized and not as generic.

You see these?

I DID see those tabs. Once I opened the arrow, I only see GROW and the arrow is gone. It would be nice to maximize the reading area again at my leisure. I'm on Mac OS 10.5.8 using Aurora 16.0a2.

Found the problem. I'll have to rebuild a few things- hopefully I can get to it in the next few days.

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

Hi Everyone,
Zach and I launched the new theme to everyone tonight. It is now the default theme.

Also, if you haven't donated in the last 12 months you have officially lost your donor badge. (Bye Bye money bags) Donor badges will now automatically expire after 12 months unless you are on the monthly payment plan and then they will expire when ever you choose to cancel your membership.

PS: That means you now have ads.

Small problem, when I browse to the page on mobile it does not switch automatically to the mobile theme. I have reset everything to use default and am using Android 4.1.2. If I change to the mobile theme on my phone it stays mobile when I switch back to my computer.

Before the upgrade it would switch fine back and forth depending on if I was on my computer or my phone.

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

That's an issue on our side and so far we're not sure what is causing it to happen.

Scrolling to the bottom and clicking "mobile version" will set you to the mobile theme until the next time your cache (Not exactly sure, not a phone expert) refreshes.

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

I love the new theme. I don't mind the ads. The pics on the title for some threads are awesome. The problem is the black title text gets hard to read with the photo behind it. You guys are good at what you do (I too have to keep my work website up but it is not nearly as dynamic and changing as this). I am on mobile now (android) so it maybe a browser problem.

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

I'm not entirely happy with how thread titles are displayed on threads with header images. I expect to be revisiting that soon. Anyway, thanks for the feedback!

Understandable. We'll see how it goes.

For the record, this was PR's idea- I point this out because he has been at the receiving end of a fair bit of negativity in the past- he said he thought it would be a helpful change (and actually provided some great reasoning as to why as well). Figured I'd give it a shot. If anyone sees anything concerning, let me know and we'll reevaluate from there.

I would ask that the issue of Neutral Rep be readdressed. It is my impression that, as I feared, it is being used vindictively.

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

My original intent was to give helpful criticism, which I have. I truly feel that there were some issues that were not getting resolved and I felt that the rep I gave, while slightly aggressive, was specifically meant as criticism.

We'll look into. We actually don't monitor the reputation points (at least I don't) because there is no way for us to be notified anytime someone is given any sort of rep. But if you send me or other site staff with a link to the user profile (also state who which reputation comment we need to look at) with questionable reputation points, we'll be glad to look at it.

As of right now, this is the first time I've heard of there being an issue, but I don't know what to look at. There are 1,700+ members, and I would have no idea where to start looking as I would have to check each profile individually which just isn't feasible. So just send me or other site staff what you think should be removed or be evaluated for the future.

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

Huh? We lost the ability to give negative rep? When the hell did that happen?

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

I can't remember when, but it was gone for a good length of time. It was removed when negative reputation was removed.

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

There was a time when people were deep in the red due to negative rep all the time. Now a rep that does nothing harmful to your total is an issue. Hmm...

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

Once again, it isn't about the number. It is about the incredibly rude and aggressive things people write as their justifications for "Neutral" rep. I have never bought the argument that it would be used for "constructive criticism," nor do I feel that many people here are capable of providing feedback without including some kind of ad hominem attack. It is merely a mechanism to make snide remarks about one another, without there being any way for the victim to respond.

Every Neutral Rep comment I have seen has either been an ad hominem attack or a way of punishing the other person for not backing down in a debate.

Reporting the attack after the fact isn't a good solution. As long as people are going to be rude to one another, I still think we shouldn't provide them yet another vehicle.
