As of right now, this is the first time I've heard of there being an issue

It never has in the past.

Actually I objected (in this thread), when Zach first said that PR had convinced him to reinstate Neutral Rep. I have always had an issue with it, because of the nature of discourse here.

Once again, it isn't about the number.  It is about the incredibly rude and aggressive things people write as their justifications for "Neutral" rep.

It is the internet and happens on nearly every forum out there. Get on some of the larger theme park networks out there and it is a thousand times worse. Write it off.

I have never bought the argument that it would be used for "constructive criticism," nor do I feel that many people here are capable of providing feedback without including some kind of ad hominem attack.

Constructive criticism? Anyone who thinks that will happen needs to remember they are posting online. Kinda like that vague attack there? Anything can be seen as an attack, it is all on how you choose to take it.

It is merely a mechanism to make snide remarks about one another, without there being any way for the victim to respond.

Make a rep discussion thread. Rep them back. BOOM, there you have an outlet to reply/rebuke it.

Every Neutral Rep comment I have seen has either been an ad hominem attack or a way of punishing the other person for not backing down in a debate.

I am closing in on four years around these parts and I PROMISE you I have probably gotten some of the most snide remarks of anyone in rep. I don't really use the system as I feel it is overly pointless, the +Thanks is a much better route. Something I can speak on experience of are the ones who constantly put the absolute most snide remarks are no longer around, obviously excluding Alpenghost because is entirely immune to any and all rules (he really runs the bulk of stuff around here). Let's see how long before that is edited out.

Reporting the attack after the fact isn't a good solution.  As long as people are going to be rude to one another, I still think we shouldn't provide them yet another vehicle.

As I said, I find the rep system outstandingly useless and borderline repulsive. It is a feature that had its heyday some ten years ago. I can honestly say the amount of times I hit the rep on someone to read it is next to none unless it is specifically pointed out to read it. Before I stepped down as mod I made it known that you could PM me if you had an issue with rep left and I took a prompt look at it, attempted to dissect why it was said, and contacted the member who posted it to figure out what the deal was. It was somewhat time consuming but I found it helped more times than not.

Mod staff is stupid busy these days, the number of active mods now are lower than when I and dhodge were on-board for it. I personally would LOVE to see something like that happen again but do not feel it is feasible at this time. Monitoring rep was one of the items were my outspoken opinions were set aside to solve issues.

I applaud you objecting.

Even the Jedi missed Kamino.

Actually, at the end of the day, Jedi are pretty dumb. Not that I am saying about Gavin there...oh dear...

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

So when will we actually see the wiki fully available and operational?

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

Did I miss something? When did neutral rep get disabled again?

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

How about no rep altogether? Why rate people in the first place?

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

It gives people who aren't familiar with the community a crowdsourced guideline as to who can be trusted.

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

Shouldn't they just listen to moderators and admins? Seems like you should be able to trust them.

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

There are other people whose information should be given a good deal of weight as well. Being staff shouldn't be the only way for someone to be earn a reputation.
