has there been some big mechanical issue with Avalanche that I am unaware of? I do not recall it have much down time. Maybe I was just not paying close enough attention.
It had a new lift motor put in before the beginning of last year. Other than a few spot welds here and there it's been fairly bulletproof.
The last time I went the lift hill didn’t have the loud clacking sound for some reason. It was much quieter.
I think it's way too early to reach that conclusion. As others have said, since the park is already facing staffing issues this season, they'll very likely have to cut certain rides for season anyway, just like BGW and WCUSA are having to do. Closing off a ride that's in a dead end between Volcano's dirt patch and the construction zone for the free spin - and thus will probably receive very little foot traffic - just makes logical sense. They can even use that whole area being closed off to generate marketing hype for the new ride.
Plus, keep in mind that when Volcano's removal was announced, the ride was entirely removed from the 2019 map. Crypt was wiped off the 2020 map too. The fact that Avalanche is still drawn, and simply not labeled, bucks that pattern. I think this trend points to Avalanche more likely being SBNO for 2021 and then returning along with the new coaster next year.
What are we basing this on? Cause it's still listed under family rides on both the app and website with no mention of it being closed.
Hurler said on the map it was closed for 2017. And the ride ended up being converted and not removed. Avalanche is outright not listed as a coaster on the website too. I think it’s being removed.
Avalanche isn’t going anywhere. I promise. With that being said, it’s likely to be down for a bit with a certain 22 project being built next door.

It isn't listed on the app as a coaster rather a family attraction, but they still reference it when talking about how many coasters they have, and it's obviously on the website as a coaster.
Just to clarify, the 2021 map shows Avalanche on it, but it's unlabeled and not listed in the list of attractions. What this means I don't know, but that's where this is coming from.
My best guess would be between no Crypt, no Volcano, 4D coaster being built, they likely decided to have the area walled off to save on staffing and guess frustration.
I honestly wouldn’t mind them closing it all of 2021 and revamping the plaza like they did CAG. Rework Avalanches entrance area, new entrance to the 4D coaster, and more cleaning of Volcanos site. Possible even put in some temp stands until they do something with Volcanos site.

I guess Hurler's page had a similar message back in 2016, but at least the notice says "for the 2021 season" ... right?
