I'm back! Can anybody give me a quick summary of the past 2 months, I took a break from the coaster industry to figure some stuff in life out.
-FAA filings claim the structure height is "only" 375 feet.
-Construction is moving right along.
-A certain user is still upset about this addition.

Otherwise, nothing else to report I don't think.

Why can't the slowdown happen on the stall?
Logically, the braking will mirror the launching to maintain the same forces in reverse. Slightly weaker, and could vary somewhat. The higher speed launches tend to have less acceleration. The most vertical sections of launch will probably not increase velocity as much as unnaturally maintain it. I expect the max. speed to be about 100.

I would put the target top speed at the exit of launch 3 somewhere in the vicinity of 110mph
I would be incredibly surprised if it’s that fast. With how high up those stators extend, you need less top speed to reach the same height, as opposed to if the stators were just, say, 4 pieces at the base of the valley. Based on that, right now I’m banking on the top speed being somewhere in the 90’s.

How is it a net negative for the park? Are you assuming that if we didn’t get it that we would’ve gotten something better?

I'm assuming this addition is going to strain the finances of the park the way Kingda Ka did (providing a similarly content-limited experience while failing to gimmick as effectively as Kingda Ka did) while being broadly less appealing and also, in parallel, will delay/prevent the addition of anything else that's good for a long while (obviously what's "good" is a subjective assessment but the 15 year gap from El Toro to Jersey Devil is noteworthy imo) . I suppose if this is the Kingda Ka replacement, maybe we'll get our next El Toro next year. I just don't think that's likely

You may of made a noteworthy argument, assuming this is the KA replacement, the spinning will be unappealing for many and it’s not taller or faster so it can be seen as a downgrade from what we had. We really need 1-2 additional full layout custom coasters after spire to have a better collection than before 2024. I can understand why some are skeptical still. However, the park returning holiday in park, expanding entertainment significantly, better food options, the renovation of boardwalk and shore line pier all under the new company are really promising and the changes being made are improving the park experience better than it was under old company. I do think the park will receive another major coaster shortly after spire. Especially with the park narrative about project purple NOT being the KA replacement and the announcement of another major phase for 2028, it would be highly anticipated to see another large scale coaster in former KA spot soon.

gonna start calling it a "subtraction" the way it's a net negative for the park 🤓
Yo we've been over this a million times it feels this WAS not the kinda ka replacement and would theoretically still be being built even if ka was still here the kingda ka replacement is still to come so I don't want to hear it from you untill the announcement about what the ka replacement is and if it's bad then its ok but untill then hold your horses

I don't tailor my online speech to suit the whims of anyone (much less children) so sorry if it upsets u but

I will probably respond when referenced.

One place I’ll agree with the complainers on this ride: it is absolutely a Ka replacement. They purposefully left Ka’s plot empty so they could say “it’s not a replacement” with plausible deniability, but these two were not meant to run together for a considerable amount of time, if ever. They purchased this ride specifically as a Ka replacement knowing it wasn’t long for the world. Even if Ka closed sooner than expected, this was always its replacement. And as a spiritual successor, I think it fits.

Side note, I’d love for them to use Ka’s plot for a full circuit, high thrill Mack or Intamin launch with a similar theme to Ka (even calling it “Ka” or something similar would be fine imo). That + Phantom Spire would be both a great way to both fill the void and honor its legacy.

yeah, I love to see it happen, maybe something like taiga would be perfect

I agree and mentioned previously that they should build a new coaster in a revamped golden kingdom perhaps named Son of KA or King Tigris. It can be the spiritual successor of KA. And yes! We all know deep down that SPIRE is the actual KA replacement being the super tall tower coaster. No way they will actually build a 400 ft + strata coaster after project purple just to make the unsatisfied enthusiasts happy again LOL.. maybe one day😀

I was thinking about all of the different records Phantom Spire will break, and I decided to make a record bank followed by selecting the ones I think they will most realistically use/advertise. A lot of the ones they could do are definitely reaches/repetitive (think Steel Vengeance), but I think it's probably a similar process to what goes on internally: brain dump all the possible records you can think of, no matter how silly, and pick the ones that sound the coolest.

If I were working on marketing for this, I'd shortlist these four core records:
  • World's tallest, fastest, and longest spinning coaster
  • Tallest and fastest roller coaster on the East Coast
  • World's first upside-down launch
  • World's longest and fastest inversion (zero-g stall)
This list best encapsulates the essence of the ride without sounding like arbitrary statistics. If you gave someone these four records alone without them having any other knowledge of what the ride does, they could piece together its massive height and speed as well as the large upside-down launched inversion that are the two marquee selling points of the ride. Plus, they make the most sense to the broadest audience without being terrible reaches; these are all super marketable and attention-grabbing without requiring any kind of specialized knowledge.

They could always advertise it as "Breaks 10 records, including (list above as the main records)." Some secondary records included in that 10 could be:
  • 5th fastest roller coaster in the world
  • 3rd tallest roller coaster in the world
  • 3rd fastest triple-launch coaster in the world
  • 2nd tallest coaster in North America
  • 2nd fastest triple-launch coaster in North America
  • 1st tallest giga coaster in the world
These are more "did you know?" records for the press release that are still super impressive, but I wouldn't put them on the front page of any general advertising since they aren't necessarily world-beating. They sound technically impressive, but emotionally they don't land as hard.

You could make a case for "world's tallest giga coaster" being included in the core records, but I've observed that parks including height classifications in records (hyper-hybrid, giga, strata, etc.) further confuses people and people often leave it out entirely when recounting the record (they'll say "it's the world's tallest coaster" when it's really "the world's tallest hyper-hybrid coaster", for example). It gets messy and it's rather forgettable for most people, plus these classifications are all technicalities that don't carry much weight in general marketing.

Around the 01:40 mark he comments on the huge area of space between purple and pier. States “stay tuned see what happens”

Now I’m no conspiracy theorist but they def have inside knowledge on projects or hear things that are being discussed and to me that quote and the way he says it seems like a subtle hint that something is also coming to this plot of land.
That’s probably the 2028 area for part 3
I'm assuming phase 3 will be the actual ka replacement

He loves it deep down. Otherwise you dont put that much energy into something you dont care about.

"It" being Great Adventure, yes. Of course. I want better for it

The amount of time and energy you spend hating on this is crazy lol, surely there's more consequential things in life

Personally inconsequential as in a decision I have no agency in making? Sure, but this is an attempt at erasing one of the most significant architectural icons the state had and redefining a new era of amusement. I am opinionated about the built environment more generally and feel little need to defend my presence in public discourse surrounding it. If ur interested in my thoughts on other matters u can follow my current road trip here
