I wonder if that’s why the trains in the rendering were teal, gives off more of a phantom vibe. Also, the only other difference in the rendering is the lack of shoreline pier and the lsm length on the 3rd launch, which could indicate this is animation is a year old. I wonder if part of the delay was redesigning that 3rd launch, whether it’s for consistency of the speed, power saving, or some other reason?

I keep looking at all the promotional material that’s being posted everywhere and I cannot for the life of me understand why they are showing off the green cars like this when they confirmed to eltoro Ryan it’s 1 singular color.

For still frames a simple photoshop edit would’ve taken 5 mins and a re edit and re render of a video is an hour at most with competent hardware.

Just seems so off to me

(I also say this with years of experience in C4D, blender, photoshop, illustrator, after effects, and the goat Microsoft paint )

I actually kind of like the green. Perhaps the 2nd train will be colored green? There is green featured in the logo.

I think I saw it confirmed that both trains are the same color (the purple). Super disappointing in my opinion—both because I think the green looks way better and because I like coasters with different colored trains.

Same thoughts here. Do you think they could pull a Georgia Goldrusher on the trains?

I'll offer the first I can think of:

Is it that crazy to imagine Six Flags simply decided it wasn't worth it to pay the animator to redo the entire thing? To my knowledge, this animation style is and has largely over the years been done by 3DVIP (read: not Six Flags internally, not Mack Rides). To write it off as a 1-hour fix just seems incredibly out of touch. I would not at all be surprised if this animation instance is Phantom Spire, and they've had the video completed & ready for months. Is it insane to consider 3DVIP was preoccupied with other commissions and could not fit the schedule? I don't know.

Ultimately, I do wish the train(s) were teal/green/blue/not purple, but it's not the end of the world. The ride stations always look different from animation to final product, kind of the same thing. and expanding that topic, note that the top of the tower structure itself isn't completely accurate to the final product either.

Bakunawa! A unique name that sounds menacing, isn’t hard to pronounce, and has the opportunity to tie right into the area.

Things I’m happy about from the announcement:
1. Ryan - He clearly is passionate about this ride and how it will be introduced to the public.
2. Floorless Trains AND Lap Bar Only - What a feeling it will be to be launching upside down and also thrown 380 feet in the air with very little restraints.
3. Track Usage - It looks like every car gets fully sideways at the spire. It was a major concern of mine that EVERY rider got to experience the main element at the top of this ride.

Things I’m hopeful for:
1. Theming - Ryan previously mentioned that this ride would be highly themed and not a parking lot coaster. I do hope the whole queue experience, ride station, and physical ride are themed well. This will be the most publically viewed attraction, and the “feel” of the ride and area make a huge difference (look at Shoreline Pier vs Adventure Alley).
2. Light Package - Make this ride stand out at night!

Also, it is very different to see a rollercoaster with its track fully complete at the announcement. I’m so used to getting the announcement online and then not seeing any construction until after the new year. Go Cedar Fair!

I haven’t quite had the time to compile my thoughts, been a long day of driving, but for now I’ll join the echo chamber in saying that the lap bars and floorless trains are absolutely glorious.

I am so ready to come back home to Great Adventure next year.

Finally have a chance to write down my thoughts on the reveal today.

First off….the floorless trains are legitimately a game changer. ETR wasn’t kidding when he said it had some “tricks up its sleeve”. It was already going to be an insane ride experience but the fact that you are so exposed makes it SO much more nerve wracking. I’m actually getting nervous sitting here thinking about it and I haven’t felt that way since….well Kingda Ka.

The name is cool. I know a lot of people are talking about the logo, I honestly don’t think much if any AI was used. It has already been run through those detectors and if you look at like the scales the pattern is simply too perfect to be made by AI. The different way the A’s were written looks more like a stylistic choice than anything else.

Now the big question is going to be how much theming the queue and station will actually see. I know Ryan has talked about theming being a focus for this ride but Six Flags track record lately is spotty. Iron Menace and Rapterra look amazing, but Tormenta and Siren’s Curse while not ugly by any means don’t live up to that same standard.

Overall: really great day for the park, excited to see this continue to unfold

Perhaps too cheesy and a long shot for Six Flags, but some statue of the monster kinda like what Loch Ness got in its refurbishment would make me happy. Or a tunnel made to look like a shipping container!
I mean, they gave a statue to a Larson loop of all things at this very park. As much as I doubt it would happen, I don’t think it’s completely out of the question.

So it's been a bit of a busy day, but here is my take on it:

Absolutely huge fan of the reveal. I've been on the edge since the very first time track was revealed. The "it's rising" Easter egg around season open, the small teases, all of it.

I'm hoping I'll be in the condition to ride it. The over the shoulder lap bars look like they may at least potentially accommodate a bigger rider, which raises my chances.

From a technical standpoint, I'm blown away. The mix of floorless and spinning and I can barely imagine what the upside down launch while in the middle of airtime/hangtime would feel like. Same goes for a near inverted outerbank while tilted from the spinning.

In comparison to Ka, I think this is a fine replacement/spiritual successor. I've said before Ka never really impressed me, but even for being just another launch coaster, it feels like it actually does something. It fits the "extreme launched coaster" niche perfectly, and I feel it's sized fine in a post-Coaster Wars world.

Capacity doesn't matter to me all that much because I've always cared more about the ride experience than the operations.

As far as the theming, I'm excited to see what will be done. I'm fairly confident that with what's already being upgraded in the park and with Shoreline Pier, there's enough precedent to at least put some faith it will be done right.

I want to see it integrated well with the Boardwalk and Shoreline Pier, and maybe see how this area fills the connection between Shoreline Pier and the broader boardwalk. Something like the Moon at the top of the Spire would be neat.

I was indifferent around the initial announcement of the project, but as soon as we started seeing construction and teasers, I've been in its corner ever since. I really hope this whole hype cycle is a good sign for the future of things at Great Adventure.

My only major negative is I'd really, REALLY have liked to have had the event open so I could've gone there this morning.

I've found the Mack lap bars to be pretty accommodating—more so than comparable, current Intamin restraints and more so than B&M clamshells in my experience. As long as they haven't done anything to make Bakunawa more restrictive than Time Traveler, Copperhead, and Stardust, it should be a relatively accessible ride.

I liked your post despite this bit. Can only experience the ride if you can make it to the front of the eternal line that moves at a glacial pace. 😋

At the top of the ride it's going to feel like looking down with nothing you can see but the ground, the way a Screaming Swing is, but this will be from ~350ft up. Since the track is outward banked, you'll also be getting pushed out of your seat into the lap bar. That part will likely be legitimately terrifying the way skydiving can be.
