I don’t agree with the OTSR idea on RMC rides, but this notion that it’s reasonable to expect RMCs to sacrifice so much physical comfort for so many in order to achieve their signature layouts and airtime etc… Such a harsh tradeoff is not necessary.
If RMC were able to improve their combined seat + restraint system design to let people keep their feet farther forward while remaining securely strapped in, but made no other noticeable changes to layout or operation, IMO riders would be very surprised by the incremental improvement in comfort they would experience.
Pinning riders’ feet back prevents them from exerting leverage against the floor of the car to control the pitch angle of their bodies during RMCs’ copious bucking-bronco moments, and causes a weirdly lopsided front-to-back distribution of body weight against the underside of the bar during hangtime inversions and other negative-G maneuvers, of which RMC rides typically have several. It’s also just an awkward seating position during even the quietest of ride moments.
That seems like a better place to start than just saying “Oh well, expect unnecessary discomfort as the price of entry.” RMC could do better.
