Counterpoint on the whole LSM thing, could they use LSMs to spool a pulley enough to replace the hydraulics on the cable lift?
Where are the hydraulics on the lift? Don't tell me they used hydraulic motors to spool the winding drum to pull the lift cable.

Don't quote me on the specifics, but I don't believe they use hydraulics. There are two AC drive motors, one for the ascent and a second much smaller motor for reversing the drum to bring the catch car back down (as seen in this construction video below, a large blue motor and a grey motor that is vertical) attached to a gearbox which is attached to the drum. That's probably a very simplified explanation. There are also pinch brakes used on the drum to slow it down, but my guess is these would be pneumatically controlled rather than hydraulic.

Makes sense. Not sure why I was under the impression it was hydraulic. Maybe I thought it was a similar situation to the launch coasters just detuned and angled.

This shouldn't be much different than an elevator setup or a big winch. Hard to fathom why it would be super complex outside of machining some custom mechanicals in there.

It’s not an uncommon occurrence for downtime with these. Hershey had one during the summer of 21’. Here’s a photo of mine with the motor and drum components removed. The weirdest thing was seeing them leave a cable in the creek. IMG_1169.jpeg

Yeah, my first trip to Hershey in 6 years was while Skyrush’s lift was out. Wasn’t gonna reschedule as I went there for the Guns N’ Roses show the next night, but still disappointing.

Well, actually, I'd prefer if they were honest about the cable lift being broke, and actually telling the truth to their fanbase.
I’m not sure where you get this idea that they’re “lying.” There’s no lie in the fact that they are still working on theming, and as I and others have said before, it does not benefit them to share a specific reason for downtime, and only serves to open them up to criticism if it ends up being more than they say.

I get that your favorite coaster is down, and that sucks, it really does. Magnum is my favorite hyper (aside from Steel Vengeance) and when I made my first trip to Cedar Point in 11 years, the lift was out. I have not been on my favorite hyper in 13 years due to that, but it’s not something I choose to harp on, because the park didn’t owe us an explanation at all (granted, the lift very publicly went out in that instance, but not the point). Kingda Ka also suffered major downtime multiple times throughout its life, and it sucked as a local, but there are other rides in the park (and there still are today no matter what some may lead you to believe lol).

If it were me, I’d go enjoy the rest of the park and be thrilled when Pantherian does open, rather than acting like it’s the end of the world.

I believe there’s a way they could do both. The “lie” to me is that they have it down to do theme work, because Rapterra is open. I say “lie” like that because they could be working on things that could hurt guests while they are there.

But, they could at least be “partially truthful” and say the ride is undergoing refurbishment for a better guest experience.

Exactly. Just say it’s under refurbishment!
