Think that's more of a rumor, but it is based on the fact that there's a panther/cheetah/large cat in the Jungle X flat stone, and the background of the Project 305 sign does have a pattern like a panther.

“Panther 305” could be serviceable and likely to be an easy transition with the patterned sign hints/color palette options, along with other clues pointing in the direction of a large cat.

Given 305's wheel melting tendencies, I wonder if the heat absorption of various track colors matters at all? Like, would a lightly colored track have a measurable difference in track temp on hot, sunny, summer days?

I feel like the difference in temperature between light and dark colors is negligible compared to the heat the friction of the wheels creates. Probably doesn't change much. But I literally have no knowledge about physics so anyone who does can feel free to chime in

My thoughts exactly. Black absorbs MUCH more heat than white (or lighter colors). Seems like an easy decision considering the continuous problem 305 has had since it opened.

As a matter of fact, that's what they should've renamed it: Problem 305. 😅 It's my all-time favorite, but she's got issues.

I don't have the calculations to back it up but I would believe that the amount of light that black absorbs and transfers into heat is more than other colors, it would be somewhat negligible compared to the friction of the coaster as well as the poor thermal conductivity of metal. I'll link some articles I found. I do find it interesting that all the rollercoasters at Ferrari World as well as Falcons Flight, are white. I do not know if that is because of the heat, or due to the corrosive behavior of the sand.
I will add that at the end of the day, black paint would also likely last longer than a brighter paint, as the aging of the track as it is worn out will be less noticeable.
How much hotter will an object get if I paint it black?

Bleaching effect of the sun, even black would fade over time while white will pretty much look like it was just painted.

After some thought, I'm hoping for a charcoal gray track. The Project 305 sign leopard/cheetah/jaguar print gives me hope it may happen. If it was fully black we may notice the inevitable fading more. Black -> gray is more noticeable than dark gray -> lighter gray
