RE: Project Madrid: New Hamlet? Giga Coaster? 315' Tower?

Let's be nice and call Drachen Fire....weak.

i really liked the red lights on the drachen fire trains. I would love to see another ride at BG have LED lights on the train.

I agree. In fact, I'm surprised we don't see more lights on trains or tracks for that matter.

Re: Drachen references--that, too, assumes the attraction has anything to do with Drachen's station house, Festhaus Park, etc., which, if I'm not mistaken, all we have linking things to that area is speculation.

In any event, I agree w/ all above that the park and fanbase probably don't want to invoke Drachen, whether w/ this attraction or other future ones proximate to the site.

Even the legend that was BBW only has some subtle references probably lost on the average guest.

Oh what might have been had B&M built Drachen. We may not be having this discussion because likely it would be still operating.

I wonder whether there might already be a Germany train station, had Drachen Fire been a B&M creation and therefore extant.

Granted, there are other obstacles to an Oktoberfest station, as discussed elsewhere on this site. But at least one barrier would be down.

I agree that DF as a ride was weak, as claimed earlier. But IMO it compared favorably to the Anacondas of the world. It was just a bad choice for BGW, and site location didn't help. Some of the ride's ideas were pretty outstanding, like the silver-electric blue combo and the red tracer lights.

Speaking of which... watching 90 mph trains with tracer lights scream past the Rhine at night would be awesome. Lighting hardware these days is more durable than ever, and power options are solid too. Engineering is always fraught with "secret" challenges, but I can't imagine roller coaster light-package engineering would be too challenging overall (though I admittedly never tried it). LED strips routinely serve in more punishing environments than outdoor amusements, and repairs can be very economical when occasionally needed. It isn't exactly yesteryear's Sisyphean challenge of keeping incandescent floods alive for more than a few days at a time within rattling NAD trains' headlight sockets.

One challenge, though: keeping the park open late enough on most days for the sun to actually go down...!

No one has mentioned the biggest challenge. Kingsmill! We know the reason most the tall attractions are blue/white, so how would they feel about lights?

As for the engineering:
Lightweight battery packs, charged by a contact trickle charge points in the holding brake and station. LED's would take very little power to keep it running. The reason you go with the contact charge is so that you can keep the batteries smaller for less weight on the train.

RE: Project Madrid: New Hamlet? Giga Coaster? 315' Tower?

That would look cool.

I think the real factor would be whether they want to add relatively small but quantifiable expense and maintenance, especially given how many operating hours would actually be after dark.

I also think it's technically doable.

I don't know how much of a community issue it would be if we're talking the trains and not the structure. The JCC height waiver already has lighting restrictions for the structure, so we're looking at some subtle up lights, nothing crazy, anyway.

Most of the now 10 PM closing nights were 9 PM when Drachen Fire existed. I think the Drachen name is probably better thought of due to the passage of time, among those who have heard of it all. As to the coaster itself, it was pretty good for the time except for the "Unsafe at any Speed" restraints which never contacted the side of my head, they hit in the jawbone both painful in itself and very bad for your neck. Solid steel with rubber paint, what were they thinking? Of course if they could have had B&M at that time it would have been a very rare thing and changed amusement park history in the region, but they were so rare they couldn't get one either. OTOH if no one had invented the Cutback element most RMCs as we have them wouldn't exist.

Kingsmill in on the south side of the park, right? Closest to InvadR not at all close to Festa etc.

How long have I been saying it was a starflyer...

But, it only highlights roller coasters in the “riddle”. Dragons fly. Maybe a bit of a tribute towards drachen fire. After all, most sources and actions points to drachen fires old station. Also, supports piles have been built in festa pastures.

I laughed so hard at this.

To which "sources and actions" do you refer?

Your source is apparently not willing to provide us any verifiable evidence of his placement and access or of the validity of his information.

I have seen no other indications that this project has anything to do with Drachen Fire. To the best of my knowledge, all we have is a height test and possibly some preliminary site work.

Please do not confuse your speculation with established facts.

^ Sure sounds like part of a marketing campaign...

I think more for Éire than the 2019/20 attraction though.

That seems to fit the "astound the eye" statement with the VR experience. That is certainly a visual attraction. The dragon is a main character, too.

Edit- addition:

Also in reguards Drachen Fire, there are a number of pink flagged survey stakes in the ground. A quick search shows that pink flags mean temporary survey marks, unidentified/non-specific. No support piles as of last night...for what it's worth.
