RE: Project 2017
My thoughts after the announcement: "Wow!" I was so impressed by the Viking theme! What a creative, adventurous idea to tie New France's history to the new coaster!
Then I remembered that the period in history when the Vikings invaded present-day Canada and the period when New France was settled are separated by about 600 years. And now I'm just confused. Sure, the park is free to use creative license, but for a theme that is
seemingly based on history, it's a bit of stretch.
They're basically rewriting history completely to get this theme to work.
So now, when you realize that the whole theme is based on a nonexistent conflict between two
real, historical groups that existed over half a millenium apart from each other, with one having dominated the sea and the other having settled in the Canadian wilderness, it begins to look like a nonsensical mish-mosh of ideas. Which is straight-up confusing. And it will make anybody with a basic knowledge of world history say "Huh?" when they visit the park and realize the ride's outrageous theme. The shameless mix-and-match of eras would be like putting a Battle of Hastings-themed ride in the 17th-century themed Banbury Cross area.
That said, the ride itself has me super excited. The thought of a wooden coaster twisting through the woods, interacting with Le Scoot, and hopping over the train tracks has me feeling pretty giddy. And if you
completely ignore the silliness of the details of the theme, it's a pretty cool idea at its heart: a battle between the French trappers and foreign invaders. Which, in a vacuum, sounds damn cool.
Oh, and the names suck.

But I
could live with "Invadr" if I had to. Sort of like how "Verbolten" wasn't a particularly great name, but it was sure as hell better than "Black Forest Turbo" or "Uber Bahn," which still terrify me that those names were even options for our Zierer coaster. But, like "Verbolten," eventually you eventually get used to things over time.
So despite my poo-pooing on some of the coaster's aspects, I'm super excited nonetheless.
