RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

the footers are still there....could that mean BBW 2.0??

It appears the drop tower is going into the location that used to be the end of the BBW, so no rebirth of the Wolf.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

Didn't they originally say the drop tower was going by the swings. What happened with that?

The fact is, Busch Gardens will build the biggest and baddest till the biggest and baddest is no longer fun. That is the key to Busch Gardens' success: A fun and enjoyable experience for all. In my opinion, rides like Intimidator 305, Top Thrill Dragster, and Kingda Ka just don't do that. They are either too short, too intimidating, or just plain painful. Intensity is good- but only to a certain extent. I don't know how many of you have been on i305 yet, but I, for one, have. Let me tell you, it is not a fun ride. If you have to brace yourself for every turn before it happens, the ride has problems. It is that simple. Apollo's Chariot is a smooth, graceful ride that still packs just the right amount of intensity. The same goes for Alpengeist.

[Insert fancy quote about smarts over size here. Sorry, I was going to have some dramatic ending, but couldn't think of a good quote.] ;)

Well a few weeks ago they did fix the "brace yourself for every turn" issue. Not that Kings Dominion is better than Busch Gardens because they clearly are not and never will be. But I305 is an amazing coaster.

I think I'm going to be sick... [Not kidding.]

Amazing coasters don't need trim breaks all the way down almost all of their drops. Amazing coasters don't leave long red lines down your neck and shoulders. Amazing coasters don't need to have their restraints changed a few months after opening. Amazing coasters don't burn through wheels every few hours. Amazing coasters don't leave you feeling like you just came off of an Arrow Hyper-Coaster. Amazing coasters are re-ride-able. Should I continue?

Only two drops have trim breaks and one is to slow it down to go into the station. The restraints weren't just changed so it wouldn't hurt (which I will give you that it did hurt) but now according Kings Dominion larger guests can ride. Also the ride goes so fast that the wheels BURNT threw in a few hours that has now been fixed. Also they didn't NEED to put the trim breaks on the first drop, they did it so it would be more comfortable for people who couldn't take the g's. Also when I was there the first day Kings Dominion opened, Hurlfest and just another visit, most people were getting off and getting rite back on. It's not as good as Apollo's Chariot but at least it doesn't go up, down, loop, up, down, loop like some coasters.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

Unless they have done more since I rode it other than adding the new restraints, you are very wrong.

First drop: Trimmed
Second hill: Trimmed
Third to last drop: Trimmed
Second to last drop: Trimmed
Last drop: Final brakes

O, and if they have changed it again, then it illustrates the problem even more. The ride should of never been made as it was AND that after it was, whoever from Intamin said that it should open in its original form was just plain wrong.

In my opinion though, KD wasn't at fault. I blame Intamin for every ounce of it.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I've noticed that if you go through the entire list of roller coaster manufacturers on Wikipedia, Intamin is the only one with a "safety incidents" section.:s

I don't mean to derail this thread, but this is a common misconception that doesn't even make sense.

Greying out does not happen because the G's are intense. It happens because the G's are sustained. That's why some people (myself included) grey out on the upward spiral after the launch on the Italian Job Whateverit'scallednow coaster.

Technically, slowing down the drop also slows down the 270, thus making it last longer, thus actually increasing the odds that people may grey out.

They trimmed the drop in order to keep the trains from chewing through wheels the way they were.

Just. Sayin'.

They have changed the trims, because of the trims on the first drop the others could go aways but I agree Intamin did a horrible job of constructing it.

Yayyyyy.......

http://first.jccegov.com/CaseTrak/searchdetail.aspx?caseid=61518

It says: "Applicant proposes expansion to the German Village to include new food buildings, walkway modifications, and major ride and ride locations."

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I put up a story about it on the main site, perhaps it can kick start some discussion about the specifics of the application.

Here's the link: http://bgwfans.com/?p=934

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I think you hit the nail on the head, Chris.

2010: Revamp of Scotland & Ireland
2011: Drop Tower & Germany Revamp (Prep for new ride and possible new hamlet)
2012: German-made Dark Ride-Coaster combo & possible new hamlet

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I think BGW REALLY need to step up there game with coasters... I thought before the BBW was gone that there where very few but now that its gone wow its alomost no reason to come to the park...

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I agree, but sometimes too many coasters can be obnoxious. Busch Gardens could be a phenomenal park if it could integrate as many terrain-based coasters in as possible w/o sacrificing its beautiful nature. I am really excited about this anyway.
