I think what they mean by the description is that it's themed to the Black Forest, but the speed and idea of a launch coaster was inspired by the Autobahn, and may not be a part of the storyline.

Newsie, I would agree, but if that's so, why were Uber Bahn and Black Forest Turbo on the list of names? Two names have something to do with the Autobahn, two have something to do with the Black Forest, and one is a fake German word (Black Forest Turbo counts for both the Black Forest theme and the Autobahn theme).

I stick by my source in saying that it will be a hybrid of sorts. Think Test Track at EPCOT, only completely different, with more story elements and themed to something around the area.....not to say that the area that you're thinking is going to be in the area that its in.
:p

Yep, Yaytez wins. ;)

Anyway, there is huge news out of SeaWorld San Diego tonight from Screamscape. Are you ready? They're getting a multi-launch coaster in 2012. Sound familiar? Wait, it gets better: It's a Mack Rides launch coaster with what may be some sort of indoor section. Could SWSD and BGW be getting twins? I sure hope so.

From Screamscape (see link for pictures):
I received a strange e-mail today that contained a few very wonderful images that claim to be what SeaWorld California has in store for 2012. If I had to guess, it looks like the former 2010 coaster project that the park once had in development (Project: Abyss/ Project: Reef Runner) with Premier Rides has went in a new direction with a new company. Judging from the one drawing of the train itself and the indications of two separate launches on the layout drawings, I’d say without a doubt we are looking at the next Mack Launched Coaster. Though in this case, a much smaller sibling to the amazing BlueFire coaster system that premiered at Europa Park in 2009. It also looks like they’re adding a small little “Manta” style Sting Ray decoration piece to the front of the train, so at least we know the theme they are going for as well.
The layout has two clearly labeled launch zones, one right after the train turns to the right out of the station area, and the other about half way through the ride. I’m not sure if there are any inversions on this ride or not, though I see a spot that could be a zero-g roll or corkscrew possibly, though the old 2010 concept did not have any inversions. And like the old concept, I’m assuming that this new ride may feature both indoor and outdoor elements, but I’m not sure if they will attempt a splash-down effect at some point or not.
Looking back at the old artwork and layouts I had for the former coaster project, if we assume the park is still looking to locate this new coaster in the same basic location, I can plop down the layout drawing over an aerial picture of the park to get a pretty good idea of just about where the 2012 coaster project will be located. As before, putting the old empty ‘bowl’ site across from the Skyride to good use, as well as seeming to involve the demolition of the park’s very old former Japanese Village building, about the only thing remaining from the old Pearl Dive show from the 70’s to mid 80’s. The location of the nearby Forbidden Reef Ray and Eel caverns also fits right in with a Manta style theme as well. Of course this is all assumption that they are using the same site as the cancelled 2010 coaster project from Premier Rides, but given that these two projects share numerous design similarities, I’d say it’s a pretty good bet I’m on the right track. More as I dig it up and keep your eyes open in the park, as I assume they’ll have to begin construction on a project this size within the next 3-4 months to get it open in time for 2012.

That sounds like good news to me. For one, that increases the possibility of the ride not being an Intamin, which is always good news to me. I have hoped that if Busch added a non-B&M it would be a Mack dark-ride launch along the lines of Blue Fire. This coupled with the fact that Verbolten is not the worst name in the world (though there could be something better out there) makes this news a little better for a new ride.

Well the park is watching, If you have any Ideas throw them out there!

hey, while I'm on the subject, just think 1999 and you wont go bad.

Here's an idea, get rid of the modern re-theming idea.

Especially the background music.

On a positive note, Illuminights was pretty frekin' awesome this year as was Christmastown. and the relocation of the Katapault makes a lot of sence. (I do hope they theme it to "New France" i.e. painting it like it's lashed together out of wood.)

fixed some typos

To this point, I've never seen a crazier way for information to come out on a roller coaster....and for everyone thats saying the park is retheming itself to be modern.....take a good look at that concept drawing of Oktoberfest and find me some modern things.

That would be sweet.
MACK did it right with Blue Fire, what an awesome looking layout.

Also, if one of these "firsts" is No OTSRs, then that would be a great indicator. Their trains look flat-out amazing and they boast even smaller passengers can ride with their innovative restraints.

You beat me to the punch on that point. But, yeah.

So EITA itself is modern, true. But they didn't alter anything else about the ride to modernize it.

What about Illuminights? The parade in France, the cuckoo clock, the legend in Ireland? What about Christmas Town? Howl-O-Scream? Celtic Fyre? etc, etc, etc. Where is all of this conversion to "modern" theming I'm missing?

Illuminights Modernization:
Germany: They painted everything a random assortment of colors, built a huge cuckoo clock over the beautiful stain glass windows, and made a giant yellow bird (Big Bird's brother?) pop out of the thing. Maybe I'm the one who's missing something...
France: It's whole theme was modern...
Italy: Never saw it.
Ireland: Huge blowup animals on the rooftops...
The whole event just had a much more modern feel than the time that the park has been based around since it opened.

Christmas Town and Howl-O-Scream don't count in my book. They're events that celebrate more or less timeless holidays.

Celtic Fyre was a much more modern feeling show than is normal for the park as well.

What happened to the peaceful European towns that the park has always been about? When did it become ok to have Elmo in the Globe Theater? Things are changing and I don't like it.

If anyone at the park needs a reminder of what the park was in its "Golden Age", here you go (just read the descriptions):

Well, seeing as how the park never had anything set in the 19th century or later except Le Mans, I would consider that modern.

Really? I'm gonna say to the average person "modern" would indicate like having Spiderman running around the park or pictures with the Hulk.

I am no fan of Europe in the Air. I feel like the direction taken with it was.... not in the future interest of BGW.

I feel that Busch Garden's approach to make everyday in the park a new experience with new, changing events was within the best interest of the park.

When it comes to the 2012 Coaster, I could careless whether its an Intamin or a Mack. Both would be nice. AND when it comes to the story or theme intertwined with the ride, please do not let it be ONE DIMENSIONAL within a certain NORMALITY. Meaning, if it IS about the Autobahn in the Blackforest do not let that be it! Bring some sort of mythical or fairy tale twist on the story... That is what Busch Gardens has been about since it started and continued with all of it coasters and most of its attractions. I am a paying and loyal customer and I expect a theme or background that makes me further think about and or explore within my imagination. I love twisting through the grottos of Scotland with the Loch Ness Monster, I miss the fearful chase from the Big Bad Wolf, I enjoy the feeling of flight under the powerful Griffon's clutches.... ect. ect. The point is... How exciting is driving on the Autobahn? If I wanted to brave the dangerous twists and turns of a treacherous road then I would just get in my car and take a three hour drive to the Shenandoah... WITHIN a myth, curse, or superstition bring a sense of fantasy and magic which has been that success of this park for the last 30 some years.

EDIT: also I made this fan art as my "idea" of what this attraction may turn out to be...

that building is way too big. 26,000 sq. ft. is much smaller. For example, Darkastle (seen clipped off to the left) is just under 40,000 sq. ft.
