RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

Intamins OTSR's arent that bad... But I mean, it's pretty much confirmed this will be Intamin...

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

Hope it doesnt break as much as volcano does :-/
I think its going to be intresting to see how BG uses the terrain to make this coaster unique

so i just watched the 4th clip for BGT's coaster and after watching all the clips im beginning to realize that the coaster is actually very family friendly in a way. only one inversion with a barrel roll and no real height

I'm hoping they will nix the barrel roll for the BGW version.

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

Yeah, I'm with you on that. The only other inversion-less ride in the park is Apollo, which is not family friendly. To be an ideal family-friendly coaster, it should be loopless. Then, kids can get ready for Nessie's loops and then the twisted track of Alpengeist or the hyper Apollo.

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

well my thought process is we all were wondering if the next coaster that came in would be that big sized family coaster that BBW was and with the information we have at this moment theres a possibility that it could be the case...time will tell of course hah

Could this put B&M back into the picture?!

Read the latest Screamscape update from Heide-Park. The last sentence is the most important. It's just speculation, but it is also at a very interesting time...

that is interesting. but if i remember correctly a few years back right after griffon opened there was a law suit over the magnetic brakes B&M uses and how they werent there design or something like that im not too sure on the details. anyhow maybe this could also be B&M designing there own magnetic brakes in response to that lawsuit. but if its a launch then yeah it could be something to pay attention too

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

No way will they be launching a dive machine style train. Far too much wind resistance, far too short of a circuit to make it worth the cost and engineering nightmare in creating 8 or 10 seat across trains that can withstand constant launching abuse. Why do you think dive machine circuits are so short? They loose speed VERY rapidly. The only feasible use for magnets is breaks or a lift, but B&M already has the fastest chain lifts in the world, so if it aint broke, why fix it?

Also, B&M vowed after the incredible hulk never to deal with a launch again... infact they didnt even build the launch on the hulk, it was fabricated, engineered and designed by another company...

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

Your respected moderators on this forum are well aware of B&M's stance on launched coasters. When one of us throws something like that out, there is most often a reason.

Trust me, we sacrifice tons of free time trying to give you guys the tips you need. I'm not saying that this is something to be sure of, but you might want to keep an eye on it.

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

The last video clip is up for BGT. I don't think it showed any new parts, just a view of the train going through what has already been revealed.
speed is the unlock word. I'm ready for us to have a site like that now!!

Agreed with the dive train launches. BGW HAD to lose the floors on Griffon to just achieve ten abreast per row. There is no possible way they would ever launch after Hulk (One of my least favorite coasters EVER)

So far as the breaks go, if you the best, why not make it better? It could do nothing more than put them farther in the lead for the best. As far as we know they could have their next 5 generations of left/brake/train/harness/etc designed and it's all a timed release item.

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

I think it's pretty hard for a coaster company to use the word "never" in the industry they are in. Three years ago, people would have said B&M would never build a X2 style coaster, but they are. I'm sure B&M doesn't want to use a launch like Hulk, a wheel friction launch. I'm not sure why people are talking about launching a dive coaster though, the article indicated that they would be replacing the brakes, not being used as a launch.

The point Swift was making is that the technology being used to slow down trains could also be used to speed them up. It is a possibility that B&M could use this tech to launch a standard size train, while I think we are getting an Intamin, I'd love to have the first of a new breed of B&M put in the park.

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

Though Chris got most of it, I'm wondering if anyone actually read the Screamscape post that I linked to...

B&M doesn’t experiment or change things lightly so there has to be a reason for switching to this new narrow-profile system, putting the fins on the tracks instead. I wouldn’t think adding the mag-brake units to the trains was a benefit, as they have to be heavier than the fins, so the real purpose here must have been to open up some space under the center of the train for something new perhaps. About the only thing I can think of that would go there would be hardware for either a new style lift system (cable lift?) or could we be seeing brand new B&M launch system technology put to use here?

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

Well no disrespect to anyone, i just wanted to squash anyones dreams of seeing a lauching dive machine...

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

Swift, I somehow missed that whole post, but as you know I am coming off a long weekend

Magentics are going to be more efficient in the long run than friction brakes will be. In order to keep long term costs down that could be a possibility. You can only remain under certain technology for only so long before you feel the need to improve.

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

They already have magnetic brakes and randomly on this coaster they decided to switch to a new style of magnetic brakes.

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

Possibly a flaw or something they didnt like about the older style? Do we know how many other coasters they put the "old design" on? If not or if it was the one of the only ones with it then it or they could have been a larger scale test rat.

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

Anyone know who built the Outerlimits indoor coaster at KD? It had a pretty good launch system, though I admit I don't know how it is now. I haven't been to KD in many years since Busch Gardens started offering free admission for military. I think B&M could build a better launch system if they wanted to though.

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

Premier Rides

Premier is one of those companies that gets a lot of hate, but who I personally don't have a problem with. In my opinion, they have a great track record (other than the Chiller) and every Premier coaster I've ever ridden has been just a fun and enjoyable ride.

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

I love a good ol premier launch coaster. I really dont see where the hate come from either...
