RE: Killarney Kommotion (2013 to Present)

Even if it is (or is supposed to be) "new" Europe, modern Ireland, I have just one question:

Who in the hell is excited about anything new in Europe?

When people go to actual Europe, they spend the whole time looking at old stuff. "Oh, this restaurant is 300 years old? Don't mind if I do!" Even Europeans are most proud of their history and folklore. Why would you design a theme park, theme park attraction, or plan for general theme park operations around a "New Europe" concept when nobody in real life is even pumped about it?

You'd think you'd build your dream world around something people dreamt about.

Maybe that's just me.

Yeah I fully understand but Europe is also well know for their clubs and free lifestyle. When people go to Europe they A) see old things, B) go out partying, or C) a bit of both.

I think that sure it doesn't cater the the audience you guys seem to think is perfect, but who cares about one ten minute show that will probably never come back after two months.

RE: Killarney Kommotion (2013 to Present)

If all they want to do is a " modern" Europe play some U2 in the show. At least they are Irish.:D

Can anyone else see the guys at top of the scaffolding while their playing Vertigo!:p

As you can tell with your feed back; a lot of people care about a ten minute show that is shown for two months.

Also this ten minute show just so happened to re-theme an entire hamlet into a construction zone during the time tourists or first-time park goers visit the park.

You do not understand, and that is why you can not understand what is wrong with the show. You do not understand the park has a specific theme during normal operation so you can not understand why Beyonce playing at the park is a bad thing. You like the music so you are in denial about how bad this show is for the park.

Let me help you out. I suggest you go to these forums instead. They're main site is about King's Dominion so they really don't expect much as far as quality from their shows. However, they do talk about Busch Gardens as well, and given the way you post and their inactivity, I'm sure you'll be a god send.

I think that's a fair point, but I don't like you saying that I have an idea of a perfect audience.

My feeling is just that Busch Gardens cannot replicate the libertine atmosphere of modern Europe. It can't even replicate the slightly less open atmosphere of your average American nightclub. I made this argument repeatedly during the whole Howl-O-Scream nurses/shots debate: there are already nightclubs. At best, Busch Gardens can be a censored, childish imitation of a night club. If people want to go to a club, why don't they just go there? It's cheaper, there's actual booze, and the chicks are nearly naked these days. BG has nothing to offer them...heck, the show starts before the sun even goes down!

There is no reason for Busch Gardens to replicate, in any way, the nightlife aspect of European (or even American) culture. They can't approximate it, it is by and large the wrong audience, and there are already 10k places doing it in the area and across the country.

I guess the rub for us is this: is there something wrong with an Old Europe themed family theme park? Is that concept not viable? Does 40 years of continuous operation, loyal fanbase and considerable acclaim not convince the management that the concept is just fine?

PartyRocker, I know some people give you a lot of grief, but I'm not one of them. I just don't understand why the park feels the need to do this kind of stuff. I'm not attacking you or anyone for liking it. Like what you like. Nothing wrong with that. I just don't think things like this make any business or creative sense.

RE: Killarney Kommotion (2013 to Present)

The ol' "The Family theme park made as a giant booze advertisement argument".

I think, people push the "Family" aspect of busch too much. I'm not saying it's not a "family" theme park... I'm just saying the general audience of a theme park is already family, literally just about every park ever built... But obviously Busch, in each of their parks was designed to make money off of the drinking age crowd, and establish a loyal fan base around those drinking products... Something the kids could hardly be included in... And it is something that should be remembered.

However, If Busch wanted to aim to the pop music crowd/club audience there are quite a few ways to do it... Without completely ruining the visible theme of the park.

RE: Killarney Kommotion (2013 to Present)

I've argued elsewhere that Busch Gardens has to sell beer because of their history. Of course they do. It's Busch Gardens. But the drinking crowd is everyone over 21...which includes virtually all fathers with kids old enough to go to Busch Gardens...so I don't think catering to the drinking crowd, in the park's particular situation = catering to 20-something clubbers.

Nora drug me out of Grogan's Pub last night when Killarney Kommotion started to see if anything had improved. It has not. Fortunately though, now that 90% of the audience isn't Entertainment staff, basically everyone in the crowd seemed bored out of their minds. The guest reaction to the showing we saw last night was, quite literally, abysmal. Zero interest whatsoever.

I was wondering about that. The video you posted has a crowd with a few people who were very into the show. I was suprised, and even wondered if they were plants, or cast-members hiding in the crowd, waiting for their cue to jump up into the show, or get people dancing.

If they were curious and/or supportive staff, that would explain a lot.

Its a good thing they had pre-recorded applause, etc., because nobody reacted when I saw it, even when they were asked to. In show-biz, that is basically a silent "boo". I feel so sorry for all that talent going to waste.

Can anyone else confirm this? If there is a claptrack for this show I'm pretty sure Ent. themselves knew this show was gonna be dire...

I'm guessing Zachary's video is the premiere night we were all there; including BGW execs. Everyone wants to check out something new, even if it is crap. :)
