It serves no purpose to the show from what I can tell.

Oh great another useless thing Scott wastes money on. And apparently money is something that the park can't waste right now.

RE: Killarney Kommotion (2013 to Present)

I saw the show last night and it started with some potential. Actual musicians playing celtic songs. I was feeling pretty good, and then all of a sudden I was hit with brick of Black Eyed Peas, Carly Rae Jensen and a string of worthless pop songs. The crowd was underwhelmed. Very few dancing, no one stopping to watch and minimal applause. I really felt sorry for the legitimate musicians, several are quite good and have played in celtic bands throughout central Virginia. Some are part of the Kilarney acoustic group that plays before the Celtic Fyre shows. I was so hoping for something better.

Killarney Kommotion? More like Killarney Kalamity! Haha...

RE: Killarney Kommotion (2013 to Present)

Not sure if I can get this pic to post from my iPhone.. I took a screencap of what I saw on Instagram. The park posted a picture of KK on their instagram with the caption, "Our newest illuminights show... Who's seen it already?"
To which everyone replied, "OMG IT'S THE BEST THING EVER!!!" (Slight exaggeration.)
Disgusting... We don't want the park to think that EVERYONE actually likes this smut. (Some people do.. That's cool. But if the park only gets positive feedback, they might keep heading in this terrible new direction.) :(

I just stopped by their Facebook page and left my *ahem* 'opinion' of the show under their Illuminights thread. Ugh x 100. Looks like Entwined started the park on a downward spiral :/ What were they thinking?!

Well, I can't speak for the Facebook commenters, but every time I've seen Killarney Kommotion after that first night, 99% of the crowd looks like they're ready to throw themselves into the Rhine. Maybe Facebook simply attracts the subset of the park's customer base that enjoys the show?

RE: Killarney Kommotion (2013 to Present)

Honestly, the show is entertaining. It holds no quality or award winning values, but it keeps a general guest entertained for ten minutes. Think of it like a spoof movie, they never get any awards or honorable mentions, but they are entertaining and people like them.

I find the show entertaining and keeps you captivated. I don't think it is a perfect or great show by all means no.

"The show is entertaining." To whom? That's an assumption. I don't find it entertaining. I've only seen it once, it didn't look like the people hanging around were too entertained by it. That doesn't mean it "isn't entertaining" either. It just means I didn't think it was.

There's room for a legitimate discussion about whether people like something or don't...whether a particular type of show has, historically, been well-received...but it's pointless to say "it IS entertaining" or "it ISN'T entertaining" and then try to leave it at that.

RE: Killarney Kommotion (2013 to Present)

^I disagree. For one to say "It is entertaining", they are voicing their opinion. It is not your place to tell them their opinion is pointless. I am not one that usually takes PR's back, but what's right is right. PR's point about spoofs is right on. He didn't say that KK is a spoof, just that it is entertaining but not Tony worthy, much like spoofs are entertaining but never getting an Oscar. It is like comparing KK to Lonely Island, they are effing awesome, but probably not getting a Grammy! Sorry :hijacked: now back to talking about this entertaining yet thematically inappropriate show.

EDIT: To say a show is entertaining is an opinion NOT an assumption.

RE: Killarney Kommotion (2013 to Present)

Having watched KK, the only people who showed any interest were 2 13-14 year olds girls who danced and sang along... as they kept on walking by. So, even the show's target audience doesn't care enough about it to stop and watch.

RE: Killarney Kommotion (2013 to Present)

Okay, well in the larger context of the ongoing Party Rocker defense of the show vs. the Pretzel Kaiser criticism, it looks to me like PR is stating that the show is good as a matter of objective fact.

Honestly, the show is entertaining. It holds no quality or award winning values, but it keeps a general guest entertained for ten minutes.

I defend Party Rocker all the time, but that seems like a pretty flat statement of fact, to me.

In the end, if I'm wrong, I apologize. But usually when these discussions blow up into arguments is when people get out of the realm of opinions -- "oh, I like x,y,z!" or "yes I thought so-and-so was great!" -- and get into the realm of making declarations -- "this show is good [read: whether you're too stupid to realize it, or not]". Nobody can win those debates and they go in circles (as evidenced by the fact that after a long ban, PR and PK picked up right where they left off debating the exact same issue).

My opinion of Kilarney Kommotion is that it's tired. I don't think it's the worst thing the park has ever done, but I think it has some pretty crummy elements all around. It's like, everything the show does poorly the park has done worse in the past, but never have they put so many bad things into one show. Does that make sense?

Like, the pop revue soundtrack. Okay, they've done that. Jack is Back. But Jack looked great and was themed really well. The show concept has little to do with the hamlet....seems kind of thrown together. Well, American Jukebox was kind of like that, but it was generally well received and kind of tucked away in a corner. I don't know...there's something about the cumulative effects of the bad decisions on the show that make it worse than the sum of it's parts, for me.

With all the said though, I don't think it's the worst thing ever. That honor, in my mind, still goes to One Last Jam.

It's not that the concepts are bad by themselves, it's that they're bad when they're thrown together like what you see. An Irish folk band would be an incredible concept by itself, and likely an entertaining show. A stomp show using it's own unique style and the scenery around it effectively would be a great show by itself. It doesn't have to be like this, but at least something comparable. The "Top 40" show can also be done effectively if, like you said, it's executed in a similar way to Jack. The show does too much at once in too little time. Each piece on its own can handle 10-15 minutes fine, but cramming all 3 into one 12 minute show is just too much to take in and brings the entire house of cards down.

RE: Killarney Kommotion (2013 to Present)

Didnt see this, but the K in Kommotion makes my heart hurt.
Why not just put a traditional Irish music group in there? Doesnt have to be sappy ballads, there is some pretty loud stuff too in trad Irish music, heavy on percussion. People love that stuff, even younger people who like to drink and pretend they can jig :)
