If Hurler get's re-tracked that would just be the candles on top of the decorations, on top of the icing, on top of the cake for the KD40 celebration.

This has me a bit excited. Though I am much closer to Carowinds than the rest of you so I could always ride theirs. Also have a trip to Kentucky Kingdom planned for this summer so it is very likely that I will ride all three Hurler Clones in one season.

So far there isn't any visible work being done. The trains are not on the track. New handrails were added to the first turn, but other than that, I don't see any evidence of construction. I didn't spend too much time on the Eiffel Tower because it was simply freezing up there. Otherwise, I would have spent my time with my 50x optical zoom camera trying to look at any detail that can't be seen from the ground.

I must say, this coaster (like the Dominator, Volcano, or Intimidator) is one that I could ride quite a few times before getting bore of it. It is very fun although a little jerky. But I think that I could ride the Rebel Yell way longer than this ride.

Wooden coasters need some sort of retracking done every year. Just there's a difference between minor track work like say redoing a segment of the rails and totally deconstructing the thing and starting over. Hurler is closer to the latter every year but since maintenance isn't really Cedar Fair's strong suit it has to fall into this kind of condition before they actually decide to do something like with its sister in the Carolinas.

Thunder Run kicks ass!

So, I rode Carowinds' Hurler today.

GCI quite literally outdid themselves with the renovations they did to the first turn. Simply put, it's masterfully done. That first turn was even smoother than the turns on Evil Knievel when I rode it on its opening year (original GCI creation at SFSL). It truly is icy smooth. That said, the rest of the layout wasn't touched and is still, basically, absolute garbage. In all honesty though, the taste of a true, quality woodie that the first turn now provides just makes me even more bitter that we have to drive so incredibly far to get to a high-quality wooden coaster.

tl;dr: Turn is amazing. The rest of the ride is better used as firewood.

I was with Zach at Caro's Hurler and I have to agree that the first turn is glorious. I don't think the rest of the ride is firewood worthy though. I do think they should have hired GCI to reprofile all the banked turns. The straightaways where fine. And if they only rebuilt one more part of the ride I would vote for the second turn, the rest weren't that bad, not good either, but not as bad as the first turn.

At the end of the day, Hurler is still one of my least favorite wood coasters. Still have Kentucky Kingdom's version on the books later this summer so we shall see....

Yes, the first turn-around after the lift was re-tracked. The ride reopened around late spring/early summer. Unfortunately, the track work didn't really do much in the way of improvements for the ride.

Can't we just have a ceremonial bond fire for Hurler and replace it with an awesome wingrider that won't do much but will still look cool? I really want to see BGW or KD get a wingrider becaues the closest one to my house is Wild Eagle. Could anybody describe the torture experience on Hurler?
