I agree with Nicole. I rode it 3 months before it was demolished and it was eons smoother on the way out, and comparable to RY for roughness on the way back. I don't think one being bumpier than the other is a matter of opinion. It either is or isn't. I'm pretty sure that the cushy new upholstered trains on TR added to the smoother ride.
Funny I rode it 3 days before it shut down permanently and I thought it was rough. Did Carowinds maintenance just stop caring after the ride closing was announced?

We were told that Hurler is undergoing massive renovations, but the park plans to reopen it next season.
^The turnaround right off the lift hill, before the first drop, was retracked in either 2013 or 2014, but that's the only real work it's had in recent years.

IMO KD took a page out of KI's playbook from SOB. When it closed back in 2009? They first said they would be working on the ride and planned on opening it a year later.
I think they just aren't quite sure if they want to get rid of it yet so they are playing this card to buy time.

The best thing would be to get rid of Hurler. It's a generic coaster that doesn't do much for anyone that I know. I know every ride has it's fans, but this one has had a decent run. It's time to replace it with something that's a bit more interesting and something that's not at any surrounding parks.
Personally, I'm more disappointed in the fact that Cedar Fair, up to this point, has shown no interest at all in RMC and less dissapointed in Hurler's renovation specifically.

I was messing around on YouTube and finally came across something I've been searching for years: video footage of Wayne's World at Kings Dominion. As far as I know, this is the only extensive footage of Wayne's World anywhere online.
Footage of Wayne's World shows up at the 15:02 mark. The video was taken in 1994, the first year of Wayne's World's short existence at Kings Dominion.
A few notes in the video:
- First, note the Scream Weaver flying scooter ride, located roughly where Windseeker is today. Scream Weaver is now the Flying Eagles ride in Old Virginia.
- Also take note of the way the pathway is painted to look like a road. The paintings are still visible today, but are so faded they are hard to notice. The sewer caps that say "City of Aurora" are also still present.
- Notice the Gremlin car from the film parked next to the Rock Shop, as well as the blue limousine which still makes an appearance every Fall as the Haunt limo.
- Take note of the statues and other thematic details throughout the area, as well as the live actors playing Wayne and Garth
Most interesting to me is the Hurler entrance. Not only is the area around the entrance much more forested than the area that we now know as the entrance, but look closely behind the Hurler sign. The wooden coaster behind it appears to be Grizzly, not Hurler. Plus, when the camera pans to the left, it shows the right wall of Stan Mikita's (now Juke Box Diner). This means that, at one point, Hurler's entrance was located on the opposite side of the area, in the space that more recently housed Hypersonic's entrance and now leads to Blackout and Zombie High during Haunt.
So, I suppose Hurler's entrance was moved to the other side of Stan Mikita's/Happy Days Diner/Juke Box Diner when Hypersonic was added in 2001? Does anyone have any recollection of this?

I forgot all about that (although I'm as sure as can be you're right) -- actually I think I rode Hurler only once before they moved the entrance, didn't really get into it bigtime until 2003. Despite the dislike of many, I consider many of my rides on it to have had the true essence of old-style coaster riding, a wild and crazy ride. A friend and I once became convinced there was a chance the ride was going to fly apart, so crazy and violent it was running, and yet we kept riding because it was too much fun. And by the time Cedar Fair took over the park, parts of Grizzly and Rebel Yell were rougher.
I have a vivid memory of Hurler in 2007. Back when I was much less knowledgeable about riding coasters and specifically rough wooden coasters as this was my fourth wooden coaster having only ridden Gwazi and Grizzly before the experience.
Going up the lift or maybe in the station there was a sign stating clearly to keep you arms down while riding. Of course since I was such a coaster junkie at the top of the lift I raised my hands high to the sky as well did my friend sitting next to me as we slowly started going down the drop.
Then, at the bottom of the drop my friend and I smacked our heads together from the rattle.
That, is why I will show no sympathy for the loss of Hurler.
Getting off that tangent nice find Joe! Any footage of Wayne's World on the internet at the moment is really hard to come by and considering how big of a property Wayne's World once was I'm kind of suprised at the lack of documentation.

I read your post and laughed because the same thing happened to me. My brother and I rode that ride together one time probably around 07' and hit heads on that ride as well. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that has suffered from the infamous Hurler head smash!
