RE: Hurler Closed for 2016

Perhaps the actual work is slated for the fall/off season and they simply chose not to run the ride during the season because it had become so unpleasant to ride?

RE: Hurler Closed for 2016

I don't really feel like I have much room to complain...Hurler up or Hurler down, I went to KD last summer and so I'm not due back for at least four years. In any case, Hurler was (is?) my second favorite coaster at the park, so I don't really like that it's down.

Cocaine, It's a helluva drug.

All right guys! All signs point to Hurler getting the RMC treatment. Anne from Irvine Ondrey Engineering posted that they are retrofitting a coaster for a Cedar Fair park that is not Cedar Point. When they are done she will need some Dramamine.

RE: Hurler Closed for 2016

I don't think that means it will be a RMC project. IOE was done work with GCI, Arrow, Chance, and many others. Plus it could be any of the Cedar Fair parks.

I thought RMC conversions were for coasters that actually have something to work with.

In reference to 'any of the CF parks'....It is interesting to note that they posted a video from KD one day before this contract 'announcement'. Very likely they were in town, at KD, for something other than fireworks.

"They" is actually only one person, who is their newly employed PR guy Kris. He is on vacation and currently on a east coast tour of parks right now and will be at BGW tomorrow. So he was just at KD enjoying the park and fireworks. That's all.

Well that makes sense. Cause I love getting a new job and posting personal videos of me having fun on the company FB page. I won't judge though :) thanks for the clarification Unagi.

I should also point out that Kris has many park connections before he even started working for IOE. He produced the Arrow Documentary.

As far as IOE working with Hurler, I'm not saying it's not possible, but they're not limited to doing controls for coasters. In addition to coasters, they've worked on everything from park games, flat rides and water rides as well. So this "big project" could be for something like redoing controls for all the rapids rides they have in each park.

I have heard from a fairly reliable source that both trains are still on-site: one at the coaster, the other at the maintenance shop.

I also understand that it was closed in response to complaints about how rough it has gotten.

So then why is Anaconda still up?

Because Anaconda actually sees riders and (believe it or not) lines on busy days. I'm not convinced Hurler has run a single full train of guests in last five years.

I'll also say that Hurler/Grizzly's breed of rough is a lot different than Anaconda's. Anaconda knocks skulls—Hurler/Grizzly jab ribs and rattle teeth. It has been my observation that the GP are often a lot more tolerant of the former than the latter.

Anaconda's line actually stretched about three-quarters of the way through the queue this past Saturday afternoon, with both trains running. By contrast, I remember Hurler being a walk-on Fourth of July Weekend 2015.

By the way, there is still NOTHING to report about Hurler's "maintenance". It looks forgotten. :(
