RE: Hurler Closed for 2016

Could possibly be for new theming. Hate to be a pessimist but, I'm not holding my breath on this project.

RE: Hurler Closed for 2016

Perhaps im abit late but I havnt seen anybody post this. Unfortunately I think its safe to say Hurler is staying. I dont recall seeing any type of markers today, but instead signs of refurbishment.

The Hurlers station has a brand spanking new roof on it. Why build a new coaster after rebuilding a roof? Other than that I didn't see much. I couldn't figure out what the metal cage looking thing was, so if somebody could educate me on what it is would be nice. Its directly right to the station above some track. Sorry for the low quality, my camera goes to crap after I zoom in x12. Thanks

pro-tip, don't use the zoom on your camera; crop it later if possible. Digital zoom just pre-crops.

We reported in March
that KD told us at their media day that it is being renovated, not shut down permanently.

RE: Hurler Closed for 2016

I understand. Renovations can mean anything though. My neighbor's house was being renovated and they had to tear down the whole thing. I posted to clear up to all the theorist's who took renovations as a possible RMC transformation. I was just confirming that such a thing will most likely not happen since the addition of a new roof.

RE: Hurler Closed for 2016

What does having a new roof put on the station house have to do with a renovation of the coaster itself?

Seems to me the coaster refurbishment could be anywhere from replacing just the track to a complete tear-down and re-build of the ride done by the park itself or an external source. The station building would be still be used to load and unload riders no matter what is done to the rest of the ride.

I believe the Hurler station roof is supported by beams around its perimeter; no support columns in the middle. The park could reconfigure the inside of the station anyway they wish including the track gauge by widening or narrowing each side of the floor where the existing track goes through currently.

I am not saying this to get anyone to think differently about what will happen with Hurlers refurbishment; but, just to point out that a coaster station getting a new roof does not tie directly to what will happen to the coaster itself. Seems another park, somewhere in the US, used a former coaster station for a brand new style of coaster. The name has slipped my mind for some reason. ;-P

Guess I just think it would make more sense to take down track before adding a new roof. Its just my opinion but, I understand your reasoning.

Are you possibly referring to the Vortex at Kings Island which currently uses the bats old station.

I think he was referring to Verbolten which uses BBW's old station and footprint.

I think the Hurler coaster station house is fairly large compared to the rest of the coasters at KD. From the ground the roof the distance appears to be about 28-30 feet high with the station floor 16-18 feet below the roof line. I think a small hydraulic crane, standing right outside the station, could be used to place prefabricated sections of track into the station. Just pointing out the possibilities.

RE: Hurler Closed for 2016

I'm still thinking Hurler is in for a major re-track. The site Theme Parks & Travels took this image of a massive collection of wood from the Eiffel Tower. It's likely that this wood is going to Hurler.

Could that also be from part of the leftover wood package from Grizzly and Rebel Yell's recent work? They seem to be replacing pieces during the week with the park still not open at full schedule.

Interesting that article pointed out the dug up dirt near the intimidator, I noticed that while riding but thought it was nothing. Is it really nothing or something. Hmmmm. (Excuse me for getting off topic)

While we were riding Intimidator, I noticed some people in hardhats wandering around below Intimidator. Don't know if they were part of that work area or just maintenance checking on things.

RE: Hurler Closed for 2016

Could very well be. I was saying how it's amazing that coaster was there a couple months ago and now there's not a trace of it and the grass is thick and green. They really fixed up the Delirium area quickly for opening and it looks great.

RE: Hurler Closed for 2016

Update: As of today, I have nothing special to say as nothing has yet to take place..... Anytime now would be nice. If they were going to wait this long Hurler could have stayed open for a few weeks.

RE: Hurler Closed for 2016

My only problem with the ride not operating is the fact that guests are constantly reminded that they are down by one coaster. I seriously think the park had intentions to open it this year. Simultaneously, my guess is that they had some type of plan "shelved" for use when the time came for whatever they plan to do with this ride.

If I know KD (and maybe I don't), it would take something major for them to decide when to draw the line. In my opinion, this was on level with Shockwave. Now people can't complain as much about how they got rid of one, and not the other.
