RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

Possibly, you did say that you haven't had any problems with kids in houses. As I mentioned earlier, if a kid ruins the house that run through, in order to properly enjoy it you have to wait in line again.

Think of it like a baby crying during a movie. Only with this the movie is five minutes long, the parent can't take the kid out, and it takes 30 minutes to get seated again.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

Though this argument is stupid and will never be won be either side, I feel the need to make a point or two.

First off, HHN never has (to my knowledge) had an age restriction for any of their haunted houses, and their haunted houses are exactly what most of these people want... what Busch really needs to do is MAKE THESE SECURITY GUARDS EARN THEIR MONEY! They are already here ruining my atmosphere why not actually do something and pull these rule breakers out of line?

Secondly, these "offenders" shouldn't be allowed re-entry into the park maybe create some sort of stamp system as is the park re-entry method for outside eaters and the such.

Third, make a pay per view house it doesn't have to have sacrifice or anything that idiotic and DMMD I have no problem with your opinions its great you share them but your sarcastic description of how us HOSers are showing our displeasure is Extremely distasteful in my opinion and it is generalizing us in a light that I for one am not happy with...

I don't want naked woman and people being slaughtered in front of me in my haunted house, but rather I want to enjoy my maniacal clown banging on a trash can without some punk kid screaming "YOU DON'T SCARE ME" so his little girlfriend (who is screaming at the top of her lungs in my ear) will think he's the coolest kid in school...

Im sorry but I don't think I'm asking for that much... Then again I'm the guy that walks half their speed so I'm alone with my group anyways so you all probably hate me just as much as you hate them....

But would a quick blacklight and a stamp really cause that much of a backup in our Beautiful Park in order to reduce the number of people CLEARLY affecting everyone elses time? I mean is their anyone who really wants to go through with these Tough Guys?

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

Honestly kids don't bug me. It is the fact that I'm right on the back of the people in front of me and it ruins all the scares. The only time I ever didn't feel cramped on was cursed. I'll take all the screaming 15yo girls if it means I can enjoy the house without a conga line through out the whole house

Someone who has worked Howl-O-Scream asked me to post this in reply to MMMU's post:

1. Actor gets hit. Actor goes to security before the guest can get out of the maze. Security boots and bans. Security is beyond on top of the situation as are the Ops in the maze. There is a safety reason for the actors why there are so many in the maze.

2. They get banned when they are caught.

3. 18yo+ maze.

Hold on, now. What? Let's take this an accusation at a time:

1 - Foul mouth. When? The jerks who everyone is complaining about are the foul-mouths. All I said about them was that, in my experience, most of these types are over 18, so I don't see how making it 18+ is going to help.

2 - Drunk. When did I say anything about people wanting the 18+ house being drunks? Again, the drunks are the ones screwing up the houses.

3 - Strip club aficionados. My only reference to strip clubs was just as an example of some 18+ type of content that I didn't think belonged at BGW. It was not meant to imply that all people wanting to not deal with crying children in haunted houses were strip club patrons.

4 - Hates kids. Now this one...I'm a little guilty. I'd expound, but then we're getting into the realm of personal morality, and WAY WAY off the topic of HoS 2011.

We obviously don't go on the same days. Most of the time I find that the foul mouths are 16 or 17 year-old males who tend to travel in mobs (packs?).

^ Exactly. Little kids are stupid and shouldn't get in the way of adults having adult fun, especially at something totally adult like a Halloween theme park. It's serious business.

MORE CUSSING IN THE ADS.

OK, you're right you didn't mention anything about drinking but you did write the above.

this thread is getting kinda ridiculous guys.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

^What's wrong with that?

And I agree...but then again it's 11:30-ish on the Sunday before a holiday.

Alright...no more 18+/HoS quarterbacking from me.

I'll wait for the next thing to blow out of proportion. Promise.

Let's get this thread back to where it needs to be. A little off trail was golden for a bit. It has become a bit monotonous at this point. Opinions are going to vary from poster to poster. That will lead to nothing but a battle of egos.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

Ok...I am not going to sit and read all the pages regarding the age limit discussion. So here is my two cents if it has been said before send it to the Department of Redundancy Department... First off let me say I have only been to HOS a handful of times since it opened, once in '01 and twice last year, so how the park runs things during the event is not well known by me.

As a parent of young children would I intentionally bring them to the part during HOS? No. Last year my family was in the park walking toward the exit from Oktoberfest into New France etc. when HOS started, we were going to leave earlier but the kids said they wanted to see what was going to be scary so we took the long way around at a quick pace. The atmosphere scared them (as we knew it would) and as it was designed to do. However, let me commend the scare actors that were working that night, from what I could tell they made a conscious effort to avoid all children. Whether that is training or common sense (or both) I don't know. But I greatly appreciated it.

The second time we went, my wife & I went alone intentionally for HOS. We could enjoy it more without running interference. Plus it was nice to be just the two of us. We were in the line for Catacombs at the very back of RPT, there was a lady behind us with a "tween"age son and a daughter that had to be no older that 7. The poor girl was scared as heck and the mother was doing nothing. One of the scare actors was walking around in a mummy type cammo costume and when he got to her and notice how scared she was he bent down and out of character told her that he was just an ordinary person in a costume and gave her a high five. I couldn't have been happier at the training it appears the employees receive. Needless to say mom of the year behind us didn't get out of line and we had to deal with a whimpering, crying child behind us the whole way through.

Now, my wife & I don't scare easily. Me more so than her b/c as I walk I am constantly scanning ahead and around me, trying not to run into anyone and find the path through the crowds. Since Catacombs was really the only scare zone we went through I can only base my experience on this one zone. I did not like the layout of the maze. The corners where the actors were hiding were "cleverly" disguised by people in white security shirts posted a few feet before you got there. While I realize they are a necessary evil because there are far too many stupid people in this world and they do tend to congregate at things like this, it would be nice if security could be a little more concealed. Plus there were also (not so) hidden hallways for the employees to walk through and you could clearly see where someone was hiding.

I seem to remember in '01, before the zones opened, the park would "shut down" for a hour to allow things to be set up and for parents of small children to leave. I'm not sure if that still happens but I didn't notice it. If it doesn't, I would recommend it start back. In fact I saw people entering the park specifically for HOS with kids in strollers and carriers.

All that to say this:
-HOS for 18+? Sure, I think it highly unlikely and financially impossible, but it is a great idea. Not looking for a live operating room or a slaughterhouse brothel, but for the actors to really be able to try to scare you without all of the limitations would be nice. (it's a shame you can't scan for stupidity)
-A scare zone 18+? Absolutely, but how can you successfully police the age limit? Some people traveling together and the ones who didn't drive left I.D. at home or not have one at all.
-If the park is unable to do 18+ I would suggest a policy of "no one under the age of (12?)"
-It all comes down to responsible parenting. If you can't feed them, don't breed them. If your young child is freaking out, leave. Or better yet, leave them at home/family member/babysitter and come alone. You should know your child's limits and it is not the park or their employees faults if YOUR child can't handle it. It ruins the experience for everyone else if there is someone crying behind them and the actors have to reign the actions in to keep from scaring someone who is not yet mature enough to handle it.

OK, I am getting off the soapbox. My wife said my 2 cents turned into $1.50, but oh well. If there is anyone else still reading this, thank you for your time.

Sorry, I was typing my book when you posted this.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

^ Don't be sorry, that was a great post- you should post your $1.50 more often!

There really isn't a need to nuke a perfectly good discussion- no one has really gotten out of hand yet. Just be like jedijunky and make sure your post has something to add to the conversation before you hit the post button.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

Anyways, I'm super excited. I wish I could go everyday but I live in nc:/ i remember alittle bit of LLI, that was like one of the best things and the train ride, my sister got so scared on that. I wish they would bring it back :( I hope this year is good:/

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

I was at the park yesterday, and I heard quite a bit of noise over in the Fear Fair area. Also, I was at the park yesterday and they were gutting out Hunted. I didn't get any pictures, but they had some of the props from the house sitting outside. I wonder if they are moving those to Unleashed? I hope so.

Also, I don't feel that the house should be 18+ because if 17 year olds can see rated R movies by themselves. Then I think they can handle a haunted house.

Oh I made a mistake, the new release is haunted house not a sz, silly me. So, its deadline. I'm probably the most excited for this haunted house this year. I just read a book, and towards the end, she was in an abandoned subway tunnel running away from zombies. Coincidencd hmmmm. I can't wait to see the decor in this house and the scare actors.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

There was a Left 4 Dead level in a subway, so I'm excited for it as well. Also, the best part of 28 Weeks Later was in a subway, so yay!
