I hope necropolis is replaced by a werewolf theme or something that would fit in old virginia. I find it random to see zombies in the deeply wooded historical old virginia area. If I recall correctly ironworx recently got some big props like the oil rig thing so maybe they will keep that and also the lair has been there forever and idk what could replace it. Anyways has anybody thought that the overlord will be replaced by a new character?  Knotts scary farm and cedar point both switched over to the green witch. Scaro winds now has Lilith. Maybe it is KD's turn. Any thoughts?

Kings dominion will always have the same scare zones. Everything is recycled or revamped and giving a different name.

As of last Sunday I wasn't really overwhelmed by the amount of Haunt props as I feel like more should be out but it's there schedule and they know what there doing.
Cornstalkers appears to be awaiting corn.

Maze of Madness is fairly far into construction so I'm hoping they improve on what was one of the weakest houses at the event last year.

The Slaughterhouse facade is almost finished as of Sunday.

Right now the returning houses are Cornstalkers, Maze of Madness, Slaughterhouse, Zombie High, Club Blood, Blue Ridge Bloodbath, and possibly Doll Factory. Whatever happening in the Flight of Fear queue  should be intresting.

I also really like the new trees for Feary Tales. Fits the sinister storybook theme like a glove and seems like a cool way to refresh an old, albeit very popular, scare zone.

Most visible Haunt prep in August usually centers around the Dodgem bump car location. The ride is closed at the beginning of the month for maze construction. Then the smaller maze facades go up in locations where the buildings are not used for anything during the summer (Slaughter House in the unused side of the arcade building).

New maze maze construction is visible in the FOF queue house this year.

Also, the prep work for Cornstalkers can be viewed from over the fence or from the Eiffel tower. The larger maze facades go up in September, along with the props for most scare zones.

The rest of the prep/construction Haunt work is out of eye-sight in the dedicated indoor maze buildings or in the warehouse where the park constructs and stores the Haunt stuff.

The park has a set number of folks dedicated to the set up and take down of the Haunt attractions. I think they have gotten the timing down over the last 2-3 seasons. KD just does not have the budget/staff that BGW has, to put up the majority of Halloween stuff after labor day weekend.

This will be my first year at Haunt as well. I'm interested to see how it differs from my experiences with BGW's Howl-O-Scream.
Thats awesome! Its good to see someone else is new to the game! I definitely excited to see how it differs.

I love the new trees. They definitely add a fresh touch to the scare zone. Feary Tales is my favorite scare zone, so I love to see the updates they've made to it the last few years.

While I'm not surprised by the amount of visible Haunt prep at this point (it seems pretty standard to me, based on the last few years), I am surprised by the lack of real news. I did some digging around to see what kind of information we had at this point last year and found that the Haunt website was live by now and we knew about MoM replacing Medieval Macabre and Miners not being replaced. I gotta think we'll be seeing some kind of announcements over the next week or so (excluding the hiring announcement).

I suppose we could just be patient and understand that the KD team knows what they're doing, but that's no fun :)

Because what's more frightening than cardboard cutouts...?

Actually, they are made of wood. More realistic since they represent trees.
Did you get a tour of the haunt warehouse? Or where did you get those pictures? Just wondering 0_0

I love the detail in the facades. That being said, they need to cover up the holes for the fork lifts. That is about the only problem right now, but it really cheapens an otherwise well-designed facade. I really want them to put more effort into making everything more "seamless".

Yes they do. I look at the effort put in to it and think just covering that one detail will help them pull off a realistic design.

Killing me, Smalls. I'd never noticed the forklift holes in the facade. Now I can't un-see them haha.

I'm pretty stoked about going to Haunt this year. It will be the first time in two years of actually being able to go through the mazes since I was confined to a maze in the past. Excited to hear about the possibility of a new maze in place of Outbreak (not a fan of it). Should be hitting up Haunt on opening night then attending HoS the following Friday.

So I think I stumbled upon an incomplete version of the Haunt website, and it's quite interesting. Amazing how you can move around an incomplete website with Google. I say it's incomplete because it still says at the top "new in 2014" and mentions Maze of Madness as a new maze. But the rest of the items say that they're new for 2015. Guessing the full site will be released within the next week.

For one, the Overlord is returning (super glad to hear that). A new show called "Unstrung" is coming, which basically sounds like the puppets. The new maze taking Outbreak's place is called Lockdown and Blue Ridge Bloodbath has been changed to Tollway Terror. I've provided the link below, along with descriptions of the two mazes and new show.

Haunt Website

Unstrung - The battle lines have been drawn and the outcome is unknown. Join us for this all new, multimedia infused production unlike anything ever seen at the Kings Dominion Theater. In this tale of oppression and suffering, will the Puppet Master regain control over his dolls or will they succeed in overthrowing him? In the end, who will become Unstrung?

Lockdown - More than half a century ago an infamous riot claimed the lives of dozens of men at Doswell State Penitentiary. Following the massacre, the prison was abandoned and left to crumble. Today the prison is finally being reopened and you’re the first to get inside. All visitors are encouraged to stay on the marked paths, or you may find yourself the next victim of this never-ending Lockdown.

A prison theme was mentioned before as a rumor, so good call on that. I think this one will be pretty cool and a big step up from Outbreak. Looking forward to it.

Tollway Terror - Take a drive on the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway and experience the sights and sounds of the mountains after dark. A warning to any outsiders: According to local legend creatures lurk in the woods at night, rumored to prey on drivers who take a wrong turn. Sit back, relax and ignore the screams of other visitors as you take a ride on the Tollway Terror.

Not sure how this will be different from the old theme of Blue Ridge Bloodbath, but interested to see what they came up with.
